PREOCCUPIED WITH PRIMARIES

Here in Greece, primary colours
saturate stucco splattered structures

built on rocky cliffs,
brick by brick.

Houses, churches, hotels and cafes
coated in sunflower yellows, barn reds

emerald greens and sea blues,
provide a primary pigment of perspective.

While studying psychology in university,
I remember a theory which proposed that

as children, we are attracted to
certain facial schemata that,

later on in life, dictate our choices in partners.

I wonder, could this hold true for colours, as well?

Do views of hues
that made an impression on us as children

reign in our place of residence today?

According to my empirical knowledge,

and collection of data,

I think it's safe to conclude

they do!

Thanks for visiting!

  1. I have always been drawn to bright colors, too. Red being my favorite color - and I do like pastels if they are true colors. I do know I loved my dear husband's pink cheeks when I first met him! LOL! I always look forward to your lively and cheery posts!

  2. I believe your date must be empirically correct! Your pictures are like beautiful paintings, each one of them. You must feel as if you're living in a beautiful painting there. I have always yearned to visit Greece but at least your Poppy View lets me have this lovely look into your Greece. I can imagine walking those streets and climbing the hill to Poppy View. I have to see that sweet kitchen first!

  4. Oh, Poppy, I LOVE all your color. You don't ever want to invite me over because those red checkered dishes would be in my suitcase and back in California before you noticed.

  7. Hi Poppy, your every post draws me closer and closer to your little piece of paradise. Seem so close yet so far away. But God willing, one day I won't be just staring at the photos but hopefully will be sitting on one of those vividly painted terraces.

    Thank you for sharing

  11. Greetings from Sweden, my friend!
Interesting you should write about sunflower yellow and barn red homes. Many homes, from quaint to grand, in Sweden have exteriors that are painted either yellow or red. Truly colorful especially against the azure blue summer sky! But many interiors, however, have a more neutral palette of chalk whites and Gustavian grays. Quite a contrast, right?
Have a wonderful weekend, Poppy :)

  15. The vivid colors are just amazing! Is the sky really that blue, or is that photo edited? Also, can you tell me anything about that awesome parrot painting...is it a painting you have in your home or on a building or ??? I am totally smitten and awed by it.

  23. UI must say I have never thought about it before. But I know I don't do soft and dreamy in my photography very well - as my photo stream shows - so perhaps your theory is correct.
Anyway I love the primary colours of your world - and your kitchen! oh my, I so love that light coming through on both sides. How I would love that light in my kitchen!
Have a wonderful week. I am linking up to you through Mosaic Monday.
