Sailing into Summer

Today, was my very first
swim of the season.
Cowardly creeping
into a cool, blue oasis;
slowly 'sailing' into summer

My husband and I drove fifteen minutes north,
to a tiny cove called Little Marina.

It's quieter, and less crowded
than the vast, infinite shores

that the younger generation
seems to favour.

Cuddled by fragrant pines
and skinny cypress trees,

I particularly like the cove
for its rough and rocky boulders,

that crookedly line
both the coast

and the countryside,
in the sky above.

Braving a prickly carpet
of pebbles
is the only pathway

to a complete catharsis
of invigorating rejuvenation.

Thanks for visiting!

  2. I feel like I was in Greece with you. Our ocean temps are still a little too cool for a swim, but we still enjoy sitting on the sand and listening to the sounds of the ocean.

  21. What an astoundingly beautiful place you live in! For an armchair traveler like me, this is the next best thing to being there. Those pines and the huge rocks and that sea! You have found the best cove, better than a crowded beach. As always, the colors on your post are unbelievable. Thank you for this Poppy View!

  22. Dear Poppy,

This is whetting my appetite for next weekend when I arrive at Crete. It seems like another world from the cloudy skies, rain and the cold summer of England, which teases us with the odd sun ray then mocks us with a downpour of contemptuous rain.

Your pictures move even the most reluctant of travellers to venture out and experience the paradise that is Greece. Can't wait!

  24. Good Morning Poppy, Oh dear, I think your beautiful little cove is going to be crowded from now on, judging by everyone's comments.....we will be joining you, with our deckchairs under one arm and beach towel in the other..... of course I am only teasing.
The photographs are beautiful and the turquoise sea, is just lovely. If I close my eyes, I can hear the rush of the waves on the beach..... just perfect.
Thank you giving us such a wonderful treat.
    Enjoy your "sunny" day.
    Best Wishes
    Daphne

  25. Poppy, you do live in an amazing place - the natural beauty is awesome. The little coves reminds me of my childhood home on the Devon coast of SW England. Sometimes we had to clamber down cliffs, then cross the pebbly beaches to get into the sea to swim. Then we played on the rocks and sat in the sun with our picnic lunch. Those were the days.............now I'm a couple of hours from the shore sadly.

Thanks for sharing such beautiful pics of your special island - enjoy your Summer swims and all Nature offers.
Happy weekend - Mary (stuck in the city now, but off to a beautiful California lake next week, aaaah!)

  29. Lovely photos! The tourism department should pay you for these posts of this beautiful island! I love coves. There was one cove at the coast that I really enjoyed visiting but access was closed to the public several years ago.
