A Generous Guest

I've been spending more time in the sun room lately.
Situated at the front of the house and facing eastward,

it is the first room that greets the morning sun,

welcoming it with familiar hues, making it feel at home.

 Depending on the season,
it arrives around the same time every day,

give or take a minute or two.

Today, it burst through
the window at precisely 7:24 am,
in typical, mid-January mode.

 It came bearing gifts,
as it does, generously, with every visit,

filling the room with its comforting warmth and healing rays.

Sitting still, in the silence of the small space,
  pondering the preciousness of time,

I watched it wander effortlessly through the French doors,
and into the kitchen, where it stopped for a while,

to join me for breakfast, and welcome the day.

Has the sun appeared on your doorstep today?

Thanks for visiting!

  3. Poppy, you may have to send a little sun my way. More snow and grey days but I enjoyed the photos of the sun wandering through your home.

  4. The sun did stop by my doorstep this morning, Poppy, then moved on elsewhere in order to make room for another visitor, the expected snowfall this afternoon.

I enjoyed seeing the details in your sunroom. The fruit and floral elements make for a welcoming environment, both for the sun and for you.

By the way, I've been meaning to mention that I enjoy the creative ways in which you add your blog name to the photographs. Very clever.

Once again, I appreciate your participating in Sunlit Sunday and hope you have a glorious week.

  5. You need to come over and see what I am seeing today out of MY windows! I made a video, you will get a kick out of it. My world is one big giant snow storm!!!!! No sun here for a long few days!

  6. Yes, the sun has been here all week and it has been fabulous! My sun room also faces east and is filled with morning sun. And it is painted in a similar color to your room too!!! But it is also different because this fun space is also my craft room. Your photos are beautiful! Happy Sunday!

  7. Good Afternoon Poppy, Sadly the sun isn't showing it's face today.....just rain, rain and more rain, but on a positive note, I can always pop over and visit you to enjoy the wonderful sunny photographs which you share.
There is nothing like a little sunshine to lift the spirits.
    Have a lovely Sunday.
    Best Wishes

  9. Hi Poppy, the sun did make an appearance this morning and it surely brightens up the day when it appears. Unfortunately the clouds have moved in blocking the sun. Love your sunny photos today, we need all the sun we can get during the winter.

  10. Your sunroom reminds me of "my" room in the back of the house (was formerly Phil's bedroom). The walls are a light, creamy yellow and I have all my happy things in here...my favorite chair, antique dresser that used to be Phil's, a desk, TV, books, and my scrapbooking supplies. Unfortunately, no sun here today - just more snow! But this room still gets beautiful light from the two windows.

  11. What a beautiful room to spend time in first thing in the morning. Our lanai....which is actually a sunroom, is where we start our day and have breakfast. I'm sitting here right now with my computer in my lap. We are blessed to have lots of sunshine where we live. Have a good day my friend!

  12. Your mornings sound glorious! I still have young ones at home, so our morning are filled with backpacks, lunchboxes, the boycotting of outfits chosen the night before and clocks to beat! The sun usually rises unnoticed in the middle of the chaos!

  14. Hello from a fellow Canadian and Islander (PEI) What a beautiful morning - thanks for sharing it! The sun is shining in my windows too right now - although I doubt that it's quite as warm as your sun! My husband and I visited Crete many years ago while on a trip around Europe. It's lovely!

  15. What a difference the sun makes especially to a winter day. You have expressed it well with your story and photos.

  16. What a cute post, I can just see the sunlight moving thru your windows and into your kitchen. We had some blue skies and sun this morning and now it is snowing again. :(

I am so ready for spring! Poppy, have a happy day and week ahead!

I've always loved those Swedish clocks!

  19. I am almost always up just before sunrise and love to see it coming up over the water as we live on the beach. It shines into our kitchen window first thing in the morning which means breakfast is always sunny and cheerful. I love the way it cheers all your things too.

  20. Oh yes--we love the warmth of the sun in our front widows. My husband tends to exasperate me because he pulls all the curtains back so he gets the full effect of the sun which here in the South tends to be actually blinding. I like to have a transparent type curtain--a thin sheer to reduce the glare. Soooooo, we go back and forth on this on weekend mornings when he is home in the morning! I do understand his strong love for some sunshine, however!

  21. Oh Poppy, your sun room is so pretty. To sit there and have a cup of coffee or tea and watch the sun come up - to feel the warmth of the sun on your face. The sun comes up on the east side of my house and that is where the guest bedroom and den is so I really don't get to feel the sun unless I go out on the patio and sit at the table. I get prettier sunsets that are spectacular. Can hardly wait for Spring.
    Have a wonderful week Poppy.

  22. Poppy...such a wonderful room to welcome the day! Overcast, but warmer today; yesterday was bright and beautiful, but blustery and cold! Not whinnying...really, but longing for Spring. I shared this link with a dear cousin whose husband is going through very critical health issues. Your photos just added to its meaning. 24. Hello Poppy, yes the sun was on the front door step today however, the kitchen is in the back at my daughter's so we wait. It is nice to see even a little bit of it. Your pictures and story are very encouraging. My craft area saw the sunlit today as well, it needs to see a lot more though if I'm going to re-open the giftshop.

  25. Poppy,
You and I are so very fortunate to have sunshine this time of the year! Such grateful hearts we must have to those splendid sunbeams beckoning to us and brightening even the darkest corner of our lives!

  28. Poppy, this is exactly what I love about you - I had no idea what to expect with your post title, and really was taking it literally to mean a "human" guest, but you took me by surprise with your rays of sunshine. As always, it was a pleasant surprise! I could almost feel the warm rays as I read along. We've had so many gray days here, this was a treat!

  29. Yes, the sun shone all day here and the wind blew the snow across the fields and made drifts along the roads. It was bitterly cold along with it. Your sunroom is lovely as is the sun as it wanders through your rooms. Have a wonderful week Poppy!

  37. Yes, the sun went looking for a place to visit over the weekend, and slipped right over the foggy city to take up residence directly over Pondside. It was wonderful!

  38. Yes, the sun is out here today. It was cloudy to begin with but the sun broke through. Your sun room is so pretty, I love the cheerful colors and all the pretty little touches. Hope you have a good week, Poppy. :)

  39. I love being up just before the sun especially when it is warm enough to open doors to the screen porch/lanai and let the rays in! We even painted our walls sunrise colors (we're in Florida in the winter, so bright colors are "in" (not that I care). Your home is lovely and so are your words and pictures

  45. The sun is here every day in Laguna! Too much so as we are in a drought. Your home is very welcoming. We are both lucky!

  46. Oh Poppy it is so bitterly COLD here, so gray to look out, sun may arrive soon to spread it's cheer here as well. Your images brought me to feeling a bit of cheer in these somewhat blah days of Winter. I love the way you have placed your images and allowed the warmth of the sun to bring in the day. Your colours are cheerful, and bright and happy...that makes me happy for my early morning, before even a verbal word has been spoken ;) except of course telling my dogs that I loved them a little while ago... ;)

  47. As always, beautiful - your words and your photos.

  48. Your lovely images warm the heart Poppy. I have pots of primrose in my windowsill to remind me of Spring. The temperatures are bitter cold here in Ohio. It was a minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit here last night. We did have brilliant sunshine today. I was delighted to see snow rollers, thousands of them everywhere we went. I had never seen snow rollers before. Wikipedia said that they were a rare phenomenon. They were delightful to look at in the brilliant sun.

  52. Sorry Poppy, I seem to have missed so much. We either have sunshine or torrential rain at the moment. Yesterday it was really sunny and the café was unbelievably busy. Today, on my day off, I was hoping to take my dog for a nice walk but it was non-stop heavy rain till 2pm when I had an appointment. This time last year we had a lot of snow, but this winter is much milder.
Anyway, I'm glad you have sun to enjoy in your pretty sunroom.
