Blessed Beauty

While visiting the Vosakou Monastery,
 near the city of Rethymno,

and the village of Agios (Saint) Thomas,
a small settlement in our own prefecture,

streams of gentle sunlight bathed the landscape

in a soothing radiance of hope.

  1. I think I'll just linger here in Greece for awhile, Poppy, and bask in the streaming sunshine. It looks like the light is pouring down in the first photograph and washing the monastery with its warm glow. Some places were built to last.

Beautiful photos, all. Thank you for joining us at Sunlit Sunday.

  2. I can feel the warmth from your photos Poppy ... it looks like such a lovely place to live. I love seeing the wonderful plants and vegetation. It is dull and dreary here in Ontario, Canada. I'm dreaming of spring :)

  8. Poppy, I always love your pictures. The textures of your environment create such a draw for me. Maybe it's that it's much different from Virginia. Yes, a happy and radiant Sunday!

  13. They certainly don't build them like this anymore. Built to last and make us happy every time we have the pleasure of gazing upon these gorgeous structures.

You know something Poppy? I would be a bit concerned if I were you. How can anything in the afterlife be as lovely as what you are blessed to see nearly every day?! Nope. Not possible. Someone needs to figure out a way for you to live forever,

  18. Hi Poppy! The sunshine is lovely streaming through the greens and flowers. Seattle is very cold, dark, and rainy at this time of year.. with occasional ice and snow. I light lots of candles and always have fresh flowers to bring in a little flower power;) Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos!

  19. Good Morning Poppy, If I close my eyes, I can feel the sun on my face. It is so lovely to be able to enjoy such beautiful photographs. Even though the Chinese Lanterns have faded, they look so lovely as at this time of the year, here in England, there are no flowers to enjoy..... but soon there will be, as I noticed this morning that my snowdrops are peeking through the ground.
    Have a lovely day Poppy.
    Best Wishes

  20. I love coming to your blog. It is so horrible here where we live right now for a lot of reasons. Seeing all the sunshine in your pictures just makes me feel little better and I think I can even feel the warmth of the sun on my skin.

  22. A grey day here, so am enjoying all the greenery in your shots ... and blessed sunshine :) The sun did pop out briefly and I thought it would melt some more ice, but clouds have slunk across it and left us a little chilled again. But it does feel spring-like outdoors ... you know, that first day when you sense a change in the air? Have a great week Poppy, Wendy x

  43. It's so lovely to see the sunshine in your photos. I can almost feel its warmth, but not quite. The bougainvillea climbing up the wall reminds me of our garden in Ecuador. Such a colourful plant. Your photos are certainly note-card worthy. You are blessed to live in such a beautiful place.

  48. They are indeed serene, and yet they are so colorful at the same time. Amazing how that can be! My very favorite is the last one. I don't know what that plant is. I've never seen anything like it around here.

    1. Hi Debbie,

Thanks for your lovely comment. Re: your curiosity about the flowers, those pretty little pops of colour are called Chinese Lanterns. Not sure if they grow in the States, but I do know that Crete has a similar climate to California, so they might thrive there.

      Have a lovely day!
