My Now and Before Corridor

This stairway successfully led me to a smart
and savvy solution this weekend, after repeatedly
'hitting my head against a brick wall'.
 Yes, this brick wall.

Upon returning to the island, having spent 2 ½ months
in Canada, some vignettes, I felt, needed some revamping,

like this little quintet above. Of course, I had
visions of marble topped consoles, with curvy,
wrought iron legs, all accessorized in French accents,
but my budget is not fluent in such decor dialect!

So, I searched the house, my very own 'mall-on-call',
and climbed the stairs to the master bedroom,

where, a potential 'purchase' was plucked from its
original place, nestled in a corner of my bedroom,

to its new location, in the front entry hall, where
it can keep company with it's fellow dweller,

a sweet and petite antique desk, that was
snatched from right behind those French doors.

Do you remember it?

Here's a hint of how it's been 'restocked'.
More on this 'floor model' in a future post!

Now, let's see what what we've 'walked out' with:
(ain't that an abundance of alliteration!)

 Before                                                         After
Before                                                   After

I believe the '(ex)changes' are more suited to the season,

for a lighter, brighter, simpler look.

So, let's see what this 'new', 'now' corridor cost me -
let the number crunching begin:

Pretty petals, gathered from my garden.

 energy source #1
(from running  hiking up and down those stairs),
 +
  calories
(always a good thing to spend!),

energy source #2,
that the little light bulb in my brain burned...(out!),
=
$0.00
(before and after taxes)!!!

 Thanks for visiting!
Happy Canada Day and 4th of July,
and a big hello to my new followers!

  26. Isn't it fun to re-do things in the house with furniture and decor that you already have? Like other bloggers have said, I *love* your staircase (is it marble?) and brick wall. You should show us more of your house...it looks so beautiful!

Thanks, yes, the staircase is marble, and I love it when it's freshly mopped and squeaky clean, but not slippery!

  29. Funny how we always feel more in the mood of changing things when we come back from travels. I love your exchange. Does this mean that the furniture that was there before is now in the places where you took the "new" furniture from? Or did you just store them somewhere else?

    1. Hi Carola,

Thank you, yes, for the most part, the pieces have traded places, but am still deciding where to put the wine rack that the lamps sat on; am thinking of turning it into a potting shed for the patio. The corner of my master bedroom needs filling, although I do like the airiness of it, as it is a small room.

  34. Poppy - you've given me an idea to make some changes here too!! When I moved into our Australian houses I had a Design Dr come and help me move in & place the furniture just so, she reckoned in 3 hrs she could give any house a completely new look by moving things around. I like your style and love the desk!
Happy Canada day - we see your lass Eugenie has done well at Wimbledon today!

Your subtle changes in the hall really give the space a fresh summery feel, and look lovely against that gorgeous staircase and stone wall.

  41. Your staircase is gorgeous!! Perhaps stairs like that are fairly common in Europe, but one would have to look far and wide to see such craftsmanship here in the States.

The changes do indeed look airier and more suited to summer. Small pieces like that are so versatile!

(My friends daughter got married on Saturday and they are honeymooning in Greece, with a visit to Crete planned.)

  44. I agree that the best "mall on call" is always your own abode. I'm sure that seeing your home again for the first time after your visit to Canada was through the vision of new eyes. I love the changes you made, it's fresh and airy, leaving you free to enjoy the blessings of summer in the beautiful place you live. Well done! Budget constraints don't limit you at all!

Did you pass the time away on that long flight home by rearranging furniture in you mind? I do that even when I'm in the dentist chair!

  45. Nice changes :) Doesn't the 'new' furniture give you more room to walk? Now, who wouldn't like that!!

  46. I love the changes, and I think the foyer looks bigger. The new furniture looks like it takes the same areas but with the bottoms open makes it look bigger. I really love your staircase and how it rinds upstairs. I know for me changing out furniture makes me feel like I have a new room and look. Very pretty, and have a great holiday.

  47. I love to make seasonal changes, Poppy, and yours are just right. :) They did lighten things up for the summer season, and I'm sure you'll enjoy the "newness" of it. Best of all, you spent zero $'s. :-D Thanks for sharing with us. I love your home; it's SO charming!!

Visiting from Home and Garden Thursday; have a wonderful week!
