Cotton Candy Coloured Bling

Hello everyone! Last week, Liberty and I took a different route on our daily afternoon walk after spotting this beautiful almond tree in the distance. After a giddy decent downhill, we soon were standing before it. Stopping to take a photo, I cannot express to you how peaceful I felt, the cool breeze brushing my hair back, to focus on the serene scene before me: a pure, pastoral paradise

A wide variety of fruit bearing trees, among them, cherry, peach, plum, pear, walnut and chestnut, each taking turns to be in the limelight, thrive in the area. But presently, it is the soft and delicate beauty of the almond blossom that captures everyone's attention, just as this puff of pink petals did ours! It is the reason we detoured from our usual path and well worth the challenging climb uphill, back towards the village,

where we were welcomed by fluffy, fragrant, vanilla flowers

belonging to one of many almond trees that
decorate the village skies at this time of year.

This branch, part of a bouquet that sits on my
kitchen window sill, is bursting with new buds,

and from a bird's eye view, an abundance of blossoms.

But, aside from all the cotton candy coloured bling,
the frilly almond blossoms promise Spring,
my favourite season since my Autumn fling,
for the rays of light and hope that it will bring.

What's sprouting in your surroundings?

Thanks for visiting
and happy weekend!

xoxo

  2. Those blossoms are gorgeous, Poppy! I love the trees in blossom in the springtime. Just many of the wonders we get to enjoy after a long, cold winter. Here on the Island, we had storm after storm after storm last week so there is still snow around but because of the mild temps this week, it is slowly melting away and we can see some patches of grass. This time next month, winter will be behind us once more and I so look forward to trees bursting into song with their buds of green and the song birds singing in my back yard. Your photos are lovely. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  3. While all your photos are postcard worthy, that first one belongs in a travel magazine. Actually, it belongs on the cover. You live in paradise!

  4. I've never seen almond blossoms in person - your photos make me feel like I can actually touch them. Believe it or not, my spring bulbs are sprouting a full month early, as we have had a few very mild days this past week here in NJ.

  5. What amazing blossoms. I've never seen an almond tree in bloom. It's simply gorgeous. Thank you for venturing over hill and dale to photograph this beauty. Here there is very little in bloom - but green shoots are popping out of the ground and will bloom very soon (I hope).

  6. I envy your spring coming this soon...we are months away. I can only imagine the beautiful walk you had with Liberty. Gorgeous sights that would have taken my breath away! The blossoms are extraordinary---how lovely to have a few branches in your home, Poppy!!!

  7. How beautiful that tree is! You have captured the feeling of Spring in your photos and words. Nothing is blooming here but in May the apple blossoms will be out (I live in apple country) and then in June my mock orange tree will bloom with the prettiest and most fragrant flowers. Still a long way off.....

  8. Dear Poppy, Your post is a Sunday morning gift. All so beautiful, especially more so because our valley is still covered in snow. Even the little Snowdrops are hiding. Spring is a long way away for us.

  9. oh! when I got to picture number six... I knew what it must feel like to be a little bird. can you imagine perching inside that beauty all around you? it even creates its own special light! thank you for this walk my poppy!
our temps have been like high summer here. a week or so ago we reached 100 degrees (37.222C) then two nights ago it dropped to 29... below freezing. it's like a roller coaster! :) but our courageous ornamental fruit trees are still bursting with blooms!

  11. Hello Poppy,
What a delightful walk with Liberty and those almond blossoms are truly beautiful I have not seen them bloom, in real life. How exciting and also to know there will be delicious nuts with all types of dishes and recipes to create. The daffodils are in bloom, the primroses and my wall flowers. Still lots of spring blooms to come. Have a glorious week. Helene

  12. Poppy, I would rather have a vase of almond flower sprigs on my kitchen window sill than diamonds. And that one lone almond tree in full flower in the middle of all the green is a jewel in a lovely setting, well worth the time and energy it took to see it, and smell its scent. These walks in your pastoral setting must be some of the best exercise in the world, who would want to be in a sweaty gym when you could be there?

In bloom here in Nashville? Saucer magnolias, forsythia, pear trees..... And 130 year old record high broken Friday (81) and 25 degrees cooler the next day, gotta love it!

RH put a bluebird house up the other morning and within 5 minutes a sweet little bluebird couple had claimed it for their own. I'm an Autumn fan but who could help but love Spring?

What's next to bloom in the Land of Cotton Candy, Poppy? Keep the photos coming!

    Love ya!

  14. Oh Poppy, what beautiful photos and those almond blooms are stunning. Your sky is so beautiful and fresh. Love the country side where you live. Many thanks for showing us the beautiful trees in blooms.

My roses are blooming, Lavender and my Cape Jasmine is ready to pop and does it smell great. I have a flat of plants to put in the ground and in pots. We are having rain off and on all day today. So probably will get them in the ground on Tuesday as I have that test tomorrow for my heart.
    Have a wonderful week ahead.
    Hugs.

  15. Absolutely incredible and breathtaking! Nothing blooming here at all except for a few tiger lilies that sprouted out of the ground last week during a brief unseasonal warm spell.

  16. Beautiful almond blossom, reminding me of our trip to Cyprus in February 2015. Here we have primroses in the lane, daffodils in the garden and in the surrounding area a few cherry trees are in bloom and of course wonderful mimosas.

  17. I don't believe I've ever seen a blooming almond tree but like many fruit trees, the blossoms are gorgeous!

  18. Just Beautiful and I sit here, write and try to imagine the scent of those beautiful fruit trees as you and Liberty walked beneath them. I need to visit a nearby place in the big city very soon for they have lovely Spring blossoming trees, way more than I can find where I am. For now I have Snow Crocus and Lenten Roses blooming with buds on flowers beginning to peek through. We had 80' on Friday and 19' yesterday, and so some things will barely show, before they can be captured in photos. Happy week my dear one. Hugs~

  19. It's absolutely breathtaking...every direction! You've taken so many beautiful photos too. I would love to take that walk with you. We don't have many hills here in Florida though...so you'll have so slow down and wait for me! heehee! Hugs!

  20. Ah...such gorgeousness! It looks like your spring is in full swing! We are having a very early spring here in NC, as well as other places I am sure. Our February was almost non-existent! The calendar will flip to March in another day and then the weather may get a little more believable! Pear and plum trees are nearly all turning green with leaf and just yesterday I saw a redbud just barely noticeable with lovely magenta buds coming on. I just hope my favorites, the dogwoods will survive any frosty moments that we are sure to have yet! Have a beautiful week, Poppy!

  21. Poppy, the only thing sprouting in my surroundings is the visions of Spring in my head. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous of the signs of Spring in Greece already. Didn't you just have snow? Beautiful photos!

  24. Oh beautiful beautiful Spring! (I would call blossoming fruit or nut trees more than the Promise of Spring -- I hope that for you it means that there will be no more hard winter. That is what it meant when we lived in Oregon. ) Now, here in Florida, of course I don't really get to experience a true early Spring. It is warm all the time really.

  25. That picure of the almond tree flowering in the landscape is amazing. I can see why you two were drawn to it to see up close! I'm afraid it will be another month before it will be feeling like spring here! It's always a joy to see the beauty of where you live!

  28. Beautiful scenery and the almond trees, which I don't believe I've seen before, are so pretty.. I would of had to get closer to see them too...My tulips and daffodils are popping up but its coming back down in temperatures so they'll stop growing.

  29. Poppy, I know I wrote a comment here earlier in the week - where it went I have now idea - maybe I didn't press publish firmly enough!!!
The puff of pinky white blossom would have been irresistible to me too.
    Such delicate flowers.
The Island of Crete looks so beautiful, I can understand how you love living there!

I could, I really could smell the fragrance as I viewed your gorgeous photos... lucky you, experiencing such a gorgeous spring! Spring is a bit far off here... more snow on the way! LOL.... Well, spring will be here soon, of that I know, but it may take a bit longer here this year! Hugs to you dear friend! Always such a sweet joy to stop by for a lovely visit :)

  40. I so truly enjoy your ability with the camera to capture such stunning photos, Poppy! Again, our climates are very similar right now, with a bounty of flowers...petunia, snapdragons, mums and more, each vying for center-stage. The almond tree is beautiful all dressed in its pretty fluffy flowers. Maybe we will see some of those when we travel to CA next month to our son and family.

    Warm hugs,
    Carol
