Welcome back!
My home is always full of flowers.
There is not a room within this residence that does not contain at least one
flower arrangement, regardless of the season. I am fortunate enough to have blushing
summer bouquets permanently at my bedside and on my kitchen table, next to my
bathtub and on the fireplace mantle all year round.
Mind you, I make a modest income and do not have the means to purchase these extravagant beauties on a daily basis, so I buy them once and they last, in many cases, a lifetime.

Unlike their living counterparts, their inanimate quality allows them the luxury of becoming permanent residents and in doing so, they may be referred to as ‘hosts’, always making sure that their fellow dwellers are well looked after, comfortable and even, on occasion, pampered.
Ultimately, together they make the perfect pair as one provides a temporary and refreshing change to an equally important stable foundation.
So, give me flowers in any way,
shape or form and give me a little happiness. As Claude Monet, master of the
flower aesthetic once said, "I must have flowers, always, and always."

DeleteLike most women tourists visiting the Mediterranean, I met my husband on a beautiful and mesmerizing Greek island, one fateful July day, and the rest is history. Sort of. I had insisted that he make the move to Canada for better opportunities, etc. He did, but couldn't adapt to the cold Canadian winters, missed being his own boss and didn't quite take to the English language. So, back to Crete; I viewed it as an adventure, and it sure has been one!

ReplyDeleteFlowers really brighten up the home, don't they? Instead of buying fresh flowers on a regular basis (as that can be costly), I cut them from my garden during the summer months. In winter, I like to buy flowering plants....they last longer than cut flowers. And, I also enjoy a year round flower garden with my botanical prints, floral cushions, china and artwork.

ReplyDeleteLike yourself I couldn't be without flowers in some form or the other. Given the choice it would have to be natural flowers and preferably a plant not cut flowers as they wither and die and that depresses me.
You certainly know how to spread natural beauty around your home and very stylishly at that.

ReplyDeleteI love that you put fresh flowers on your bathtub! It is those small vases of flowers found in unexpected places that tickle my fancy. I always did these for my mother when I was a teenager. My father would have loved your flowers, both the real ones and the ones you add that last forever. He never met a flower he didn't like. I think that was because as the youngest of seven children on a farm, instead of joining the older ones in the fields or barn, he was his mother's helper in her flower and vegetable garden. In the 1920s, as a small child, he helped her pick zucchini blossoms and batter and cook them. And remembered their taste all his life.

This reminds me of how I really want to keep fresh flowers around, and somehow keep forgetting! My youngest children are great at it though. They bring in all things blooming every chance they get. Thanks for sharing your lovely post.
