A Cousin's Embrace


A cousin from Canada came and went,
leaving behind new memories 
of a few days well spent.


Stories, exclusive to us,
revived from the murk of shade
were retold and relived -
and protected from fade.


Waking to the silence of stillness,
after days of boisterous cheer,
her absence was a void in my heart,
and loud in my ear.


Getting on with domestics,
proved a distraction ideal,


to preoccupy my mind
and help an aching heart heal.


Until we meet again, her sweet gift, 
brought to colour my space,
brightens my mood
like a pink rainbow embrace.

    I have many cousins, but one is more like a Sister to me and I love it when we can get together to remember special times and to make new ones. Love your beautiful pictures.

    Poppy, as always your pictures are beautiful. I wish I were closer to my cousins. There is no excuse we all live in the same region.I guess life happens and everyone is busy raising kids and working. We do see each other at family reunions and of course holidays. I need to make it a point to visit more often.. Thanks for the reminder of the importance of family. sometimes we need a kick in the butt..LOL

    I just love how you caught the sunlight in these beautiful photos! The lacy pattern of light on the plate? Beautiful! As for the hutch, I've been rather fond of that for awhile now. (If it were winter, I'd be asking if you'd to join in with my Sunlit Sunday meme.)

    A beautiful post and pictures detailing your time spent with your cousin. Sometimes a cousin, sometimes a sister, or just a friend it is wonderful how we can go right back to being little girls again; right back to childhood. Not much else compares.

    Your kitchen is adorable. I completely enjoyed your post.

    Good Afternoon Poppy, I know it is difficult when you live far away from your family. It is wonderful when they visit, but so sad when they leave. My daughters do not live closeby they live in different countries and the excitement when we get together is wonderful, but so sad when we have to part.
    The joy of your cousin visiting will still be with you, but give yourself a little time and the rhythm of your own life will soon return.

    How very lovely. You had a wonderful visit obviously.... But I know the feeling of missing family when they leave (or more likely these days, when we do). We love to travel but it is hard not to be with family too.

    Lovely poetry, Poppy! Perfectly portrayed the emotions you're feeling and shows me even more of your talent. Your cousin must be very special to you and I hope that the talks you had together will mean more and more to you as you wait until the next time you meet.

    Your photographs display another side of your amazing house, the one you enjoy when the shadows appear instead of the bright Mediterranean light, making everything look a bit mysterious and poignant.
