We were warned.
It was coming,
even though
the temps had warmed.
And thus, a legitimate reason
to be further scorned.
Still, some scoffed at the forecast
on the six o'clock news, the night before,
declaring a spring debut of 2 to 4 inches,
along with freezing rain.
Guess it was just a tad too much
for the human brain
to tolerate yet another sprinkling
of the cold, white stuff.
It was spring, after all -
we'd had more than enough!
As I recount this little tale of unwelcome snow,
The flurries floating outside the living room window,
will sooner or later, fall to the ground,
forming fluffy, puffy pillows
to muffle, mute and baffle
spring's sweet and chirpy sounds!
Forget the chocolate Easter bunnies.
Any candy canes in the cupboard?
Thanks for visiting!
xo

Oh Poppy, I'm so sorry about the snow there! Enough already! I know spring will arrive, it'll happen! Enjoyed visiting your great blog, first time here to see you!
ReplyDeleteNancy
Cute take on the snow! Surely it can't last long and soon spring will be out in full force. I hope so.
ReplyDeleteOh my, you too? It's happening everywhere! Are you back home...I mean, I don't even have a clue if it snows in Greece...lol! Anyway, it sounds like you have a great attitude! You might as well, right?! Have a blessed Easter, sweet Poppy!
ReplyDeleteHi Debby Ray,
DeleteNo, I'm still in Toronto, leaving at the end of May. It does snow in northern Greece, and in the mountainous regions of southern Greece. And ONLY in the winter!;))
xx
Oh I'm sorry :-) I know just how you feel though, we used to live in Wyoming! Never knew when that white stuff would show up. Happy Easter anyways, bunnies like snow.
ReplyDeleteWanda Ann @ Memories by the Mile
That is incredible! I don't know if they have any candy cane PEEPS! lol But hopefully it will be gone in a few days! Have a wonderful week my friend! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I hope it did not ruin any of the flowering shrubs/trees! And here I thought the Pacific NW weather was erratic!
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter (and since I prefer chocolate to candy canes, sorry, no help here!)
Oh I'm was quite surprised to see your wintery-Spring pics. We have been giving a forecast for a winter mix..I don't want. .
ReplyDeleteWishes for Warmer Days
Are you still in Canada? I didn't think that you had snow at your house. Love the description of your latest snow event. Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Easter dear friend where ever you are.
Mary
Hi Mary,
DeleteYes, I'm still here, departing for the island on May 23rd. Thanks for stopping by.
xx
Poppy
Well they were right after all!!! Great pics of the icicles and pretty snow-covered leaves - know it's not fun though for April. Well lo and behold - 80F the past few days and now down to freezing here tonight! I rushed out at 6 pm and brought my new hanging Boston ferns and planted window box into the potting shed - now I'm concerned for new plants I put in over the past days and of course all the azaleas just opening. Hopefully any damage will be minor and we can still enjoy a pretty Easter……..it's just impossible to cover the entire garden so my fingers are crossed tonight and again tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteTake care Poppy - Mary x
You must still be in Ontario.
ReplyDeleteI hope it turns warm again as soon as
it has turned cold!
Spring is coming your way, I just sent it over, warm summer days are just around the corner...
ReplyDeleteAll of that snow in the middle of April is just wrong!!!
ReplyDeleteOjej, to nie możliwe, że u Was taka pogoda ! U nas ma byc słonecznie i ciepło, życzę Wesołego i ciepłego Alleluja dla całej Twojej Rodziny:)
ReplyDeleteSnow is pretty, but I would rather we never had it, as it causes too many problems! x
ReplyDeletewww.lululovesfilms.wordpress.com
Oh, Poppy, we had snow, too! Just crazy! I love how you captured the pictures so well though. Hopefully this is the last of it. It was such a warm beautiful weekend here in the upper Midwest, I hope people were smart enough to hold off on planting anything!
ReplyDeleteYes, candy canes and hot chocolate sound very good right now!
XO,
Jane
Well, I just wrote a whole entry and hit the wrong button and it went bye bye. I was saying before I messed up...we got some of the fluff-a-stuff yesterday too. It does makes for pretty images shares and yours are, the icing is what get us, I almost always take a fall and it hurts worse every year...I like the thought of Christmas in Spring, or any day. Have a Happy Easter Poppy~
ReplyDeleteAs always Poppy your photography is wonderful, the subject matter is not really welcome when it supposed to be Spring. We had another two to four inches of snow too. My poor little violas look as if they were crushed by the heavy snow.
ReplyDeleteSnowed all day yesterday though the ground was warm enough that it did not accumulate. I have blankets on my lilac bush hoping to save the blooms as it was about 26 degrees overnight. The Easter bunny needs to borrow Santa's sleigh where you are! :)
ReplyDeleteDear Poppy, we have snow and rains in almost all mountains areas of country... rains in the most part of cities!! What change!! Nature brings a large palette of unusual meteo aspects in these days!! Easter it becomes more and more a "Christmas celebration"... if I'm thinking that snow in Bucharest was only for 5-6 days in february only... But your photo instants shown - are so incredible, so much that I like the mix despite so unpleasant details (n.b. I'm so sorry that changeable weather is unconfortable, a true cause of pain for most of people in relation for instance to health conditions, migraines, arthtrities, etc).
ReplyDeleteFor the soon coming Easter holiday - I wish you all the best, positivity in all and joy for yourself and family!
To soothe your heart it is snowing in Northern Greece too and raining heavily a cold rain in Thessaloniki!Hugs.
ReplyDeleteAriadnefromGreece!
-chuckle- No need to wonder where you are at. You are certainly still in Canada. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe got snow, but not those big icicles. Whoooooooooo...
But I bet you are enjoying it, a little bit. You were born there, were you not? And even though you now live in Paradise, snow must bring back some fun childhood memories...
Tessa~
Oh my word, the weather has been unreal this year. You do have pretty pictures though.
ReplyDeleteOh dear. Stay warm, my friend!
ReplyDeleteKalispera Poppy! We had rain in Heraklion Monday afternoon and it was predicted for Chora Sfakia today but we lucked out and have wonderful weather although some heavy clouds are rolling in -- hopefully they are just teasing. Crete is as wonderful as we remember it being - 'wish you were here' as the saying goes. Merry Christmas to you ;-) Hugs my friend! Jackie
ReplyDeleteA bit different from your spring at home.
ReplyDeleteI had to read this post and all the comments twice. I kept thinking "It snows in Greece?" I really enjoyed the Greek Orthodox Easter ceremony yesterday and was awed by what I don't know about Greece. Then, I saw the pictures of the house and I about fell off my chair. This is what it looks like in Greece? Funny.
ReplyDeleteWe had some snow here this morning that clung to everything too and I have to admit that it made the dirty old snow look much better for a while. And I'd rather have chocolate Easter candy than candy canes. :)
ReplyDeleteIs every year the same ? So dough for April! But we also have bad weather, with rain and cold and 10 Celcious ....anyway, enjoy your stay dear Poppy, you are in Canada!
ReplyDeleteHappy.....Easter ! Love, Olympia
Hello Poppy! I am sorry to realize you will not be able to celebrate Easter outdoors, as we use to in Greece! Unless the weather changes until Sunday!! It is snowing in Northern Greece right now, whilst in Attica, we only expect some rain. Your photos are stunning!!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish you a very happy Easter to celebrate with your family!!!
So many late snows this year. Winter just does not want to let go. I love how you often tell your stories in rhyme: You do such a good job of it, too! Happy Easter! Bess
ReplyDeleteisn't this something ... i do believe our weather pattern has changed....we had a good dusting as well and still cold ....I want, I need to open the house and air it out, have a good spring cleaning and not use the heat before we would have to use the air conditioner... like gives a small energy break it looks like we will be going into winter right to summer...well maybe have a wonderful Easter!!!
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Marisa
Oh no Poppy must be a very bad snow fall. I thnk our planet is stuffed. Hope you stay warm while enjoying some Easter eggs. No egg hunting in the garden for you then.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, I would like to wish you a happy Easter.
Hugs,
Aida

OHHHHH .... BOO !!!!
ReplyDeletewell...
maybe the universe thought you weren't properly missing the sunny isle of greece! LOLOL.
stay warm. :D xoxo
Thanks for your kind comment, Poppy! I was tickled because I also have been dabbling with flowers as my subject. (See today's post.) You will have so much gorgeous inspiration for your painting when you return to Crete! Blessings, Bess
ReplyDeleteHi Poppy, yes this weather is totally crazy and it just seems that spring does not want to come this year. I took pictures of the snow too and I still can't believe it. I can't wait until I don't have to wear a coat anymore! I hope all is well with you and enjoy your weekend and Happy Easter.
ReplyDeleteJulie
Hi Poppy,
ReplyDeleteoh dear, send you tonns of sun to melt the snow! Have a wonderful easter weekend
Elisabeth
Oh no! My son is at college in Colorado and is still getting snow which is pretty much over by now. Ha! Sending warm wishes your way for a wonderful Easter weekend. Tammy
ReplyDeleteWe got the snow, too! Pitiful, isn't it?! It only lasted two days around here though. Now the weather is favorable (up in the 60's today!) and sunny. :-)
ReplyDeleteI wish the weather would take a look at the calendar and see that it's April! We just had snow here in Colorado few days ago, too and I'm over it! Hope it is melted for you by now. Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteOh crumbs, it must be a bit of a shock to the system, especially as the weather in Europe is so mild at the moment, in fact the last two weeks have felt like summer to us !
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter whatever the weather x
Hi Poppy, this post is so different from your usual colorful ones. It's interesting to see your take on this snowy scenery. Stay warm and enjoy the snow. Christa
ReplyDeleteI heard from my sister I Toronto a out the snow and them encounters the same in Edmonton where we spent Easter weekend. Souxh for outdoor Easter egg hunts!
ReplyDeleteCanada and the northern US are still not quite in full spring mode.
ReplyDeleteWow, Poppy - we're still unusually cool here - but no snow - two snow events is unusual for us! I do appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,
ReplyDeleteKathy
Ugh, I think if it snowed again, I just might cry! I heard it snowed a little here while we were away last week, but nothing significant. Glad I missed it! It's definitely looking more like spring these past few days. Hope you had a Happy Easter!
