As a little girl growing up in midtown Toronto,
autumn, dressed in all its spectacular, seasonal
splendour, was always my favourite time of year.
I'm sure my passion for colour comes from those
flaming fireballs that pierce cool, azure blue skies.
What fun we used to have, diving into brittle heaps
of dry, crispy, crumbly leaves, swimming in hues of
burnt sienna, hot crimson, and muddy merlots.
of dry, crispy, crumbly leaves, swimming in hues of
burnt sienna, hot crimson, and muddy merlots.
And so, as you all know, this Toronto autumn has
been my first in 16 years, and I have been busy
reacquainting myself with its many myriad of moods -
from the bright and bubbly,
to the dark and melancholy.
And guess what?
I found them all to be enchantingly intriguing.
Thanks for visiting and
Happy Thanksgiving to
all my American friends.

Oh Poppy, What a bright and brilliant picture you've painted of Toronto. Again you've shown us the beauty of even the dark side of autumn. Thinking of you often as we go about day to day life in The Stone House on the Hill. Our summer-like days seem finally to have given way to more winter/autumn clouds and rain, but at least it is still warm outside! Hugs to you ~ Jackie
ReplyDeleteHi Poppy! So happy you are enjoying the scenery. Do have a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteLove your outdoor pics of such colorful trees!!!!!
Hugs! ♥
Your words together with the pictures of the brilliant autumn colours are the perfect combination how you feel to be in Toronto. I was smiling how you told us about diving in the crispy crumbly leaves, my daughters did so together with their dog when they were children.
ReplyDeleteWish you a great time in Canada.
Janneke
Glorious fall foliage! So glad you were able to reacquaint yourself with the beauty of your home city!
ReplyDeleteDearest Poppy ,I wish to be well you and your family ! So many briliant colors and lovely words ! As always a colorful post ! Have a good time my dear !
ReplyDeleteLove the beautiful pictures. Autumn is one of my favorite times of the year and living in WV we have some of the pretties folliage around. This year it was short because to get the beautiful colors of the trees you need the right about of rain, sun, and weather temperature. I think we had too much rain.
ReplyDeleteHello Poppy, Autumn in Toronto looks gorgeous. Lovely colors and beautiful images. I am so happy you are there to take it all in.. Our fall colors have been gorgeous too. Lovely post.. Have a happy day and week ahead!
ReplyDeleteWonderful Autumn colours! The leaves have all fallen now here after the recent storms and we are stuck in shades of grey for the time being, so all the better to see your bright photos x
ReplyDeleteYour thougts reflect my thoughts regarding color! We are blanketed in our first snow now so things have taken on a new look. Love that picture of the woods with the park benches- the trunks look purple! Looks like you are lapping up all the beauty of being in Toronto!
ReplyDeleteHello sweet Poppy! Melancholy...that's the word I have been looking for! It doesn't have to be a bad thing...and for me it isn't! I love this discription of the fall and all of it's moods. Your photos are all just spectacular, my freind! I hope you are enjoying your fall in Toronto :)
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos of autumn color in Toronto! The carpet of maple leaves is wonderful. And I think the way you put poppy view on the park bench is so much fun! Enjoy what's left of autumn before the snow flies!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Fall photos!! When will the weather turn in Canada? It's still beautiful.
ReplyDeleteJudy

This is the season that my brother misses most out in Victoria ... not as much fall colour there. I'm glad you are able to enjoy your favourite season back in your hometown :) I sure hope you got here before all the leaves dropped. Have a wonderful week!

Your autumn colors in Toronto are so brilliant! How lovely to stroll in those fall foliage. I have heard from my Canadian English teacher that how beautiful the autumn colors in Canada are.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy day!
How beautiful! Thank you for sharing these photos!
ReplyDeleteThere you are ;).
ReplyDeleteToronto is a beautiful city! I want to jump inside your photos and play with the leaves, climb a couple of trees, and then sit on that bench under the golden leafed tree.
As for us, 'all the leaves are brownnnnnn...and the sky is grey'.

ReplyDeletePoppy,
ReplyDeleteCharmed is how I felt the second I looked at this magical post. Autumn is my favorite season and your photography has captured my emotions and warmed my soul. How did your ever photograph the perfect purple hue on the trees bark? How did you discover the slow waterfall down the stones in a glory of painted leaves? How is it that your Crimson, Russet and Gold fallen leaves beckon me to sit for a spell and wait till they have dried to the perfect pitch to walk through and hear my Autumn crunch. Oh Poppy your Canadian Autumn tonight will be in my dreams.
xoxo,
Vera

ReplyDeleteIt must be wonderful Poppy, to be experiencing autumn in Toronto after 16 years, and Thanksgiving too! You really do have a passion for colour, it shows in these fabulous pictures.
ReplyDeleteAren't the names of colours just amazing? Burnt sienna, hot crimson, and muddy merlots, I always love reading the names on tubes of paint.
Have an lovely Thanksgiving.

Poppy, your images are truly lovely! Yes, our Autumns are wonderful here in eastern Canada and you have given each image a charming compliment. I especially enjoyed the carpet of red and yellow maple leaves. Thank you for sharing a bit of your visit to your home in Toronto.
ReplyDeleteAutumn blessings,
Sandi
You have really capture a great autumn in lovely colours with your camera - beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy week Poppy, take care...

Beautiful images of an Eastern Canadian Fall. Here in the West we are covered in a blanket of snow.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful photos, Poppy. I recently read a passage that said within us we have a "land memory" for a particular place and we are forever tied to it. No matter where we go our inner self recognizes and celebrates this memory...I think you have found yours! Thank you for sharing! Smiles..Susan
ReplyDeleteWspaniała jesień w Toronto, na czwartym zdjęciu drzewa fioletowe, takie są, czy to światło sprawiło? Jednym słowem faktycznie czarodziejskie barwy jesieni. Pozdrawiam serdecznie:) Bea
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous, Poppy!!! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving Poppy. The pictures are the epitomy of Autum and all the splendor it brings. I hope you are having a wonderful time with your family back home.
ReplyDeleteThe words you use to paint the colors of fall are as brilliant as the Autumn colors that paint the leaves on the trees. Beautiful pictures Poppy!
ReplyDeletePoppy, these photos are lovely! I love autumn for all that it is a fleeting, flighty season.

I could just about hear your glee in jumping in those dry leaves of brilliant colours as I read your summary. There is so much magic in the way nature takes the shades of green and then turns them into every colour imaginable...not only those which you have mentioned, but even shades of apricots and pinks came to the earth here. Once spent, I feel such melancholy and I long for them to go back up and hang there a little bit longer. The time that they show themselves is so brief and no matter how many images as yours that I see, I am still captivated by each leaf and the beauty they hold, just before they are gone. Thinking all good thoughts of you my dear Poppy. Hugs~
ReplyDeleteThe colours are amazing. I visited Toronto as a student, but I'll always be sorry that I couldn't stay for an autumn there.
ReplyDeleteDearest Poppy, your autumn photos are pure delight for the eyes! I love so much this golden colored season. And I always enjoy your poetic writing which is particularly yours. Hope you are all doing fine my friend and living peacefully in this blessing land, Creta!
ReplyDeleteMany, many hugs
Olympia
Lovely post as always Poppy. I always remind myself that one day I'd like to experience Canada in the heart of Autumn. How wonderful the colours are and even those purple trunks, were they real or painted?
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend my friend.
Dropping by to say "hi" haven't seen you in a while.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful photos...it's been many years since I've been in Toronto. I've missed you and often wonder how you are doing. Sending you hugs!
ReplyDeleteHi Poppy I'm dropping in to say hello and hope this magical holiday season has enchanted and embraced you with joy,
ReplyDeletexoxo,

OMGoodness, I am so far behind on reading blogs, but I'm glad I finally made it over to see this one. The photos are so beautiful, but I am truly in awe of your camera skills, Poppy! The colors are breathtaking! You actually might be surprised to know that we are currently having some Fall colors here in the desert. We have some deciduous trees (mainly Ash) in our little suburb of Phoenix that are morphing now, slowly going from bright yellow into red....it is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteWarm hugs,
Carol
Toronto is so gorgeous, Poppy! Thank you for sharing it with us at one of the most beautiful times of the year :)
