Of all the reasons to love autumn, and there
are plenty, from the romantic to the radiant,
both of which appeal to me tremendously,
there are two others, which you will discover,
that make me feel just as giddy.
Can you guess what they are?
Look carefully!
There are clues in the hues
of the clouds in the sky,
and to further exemplify what I mean, take
note of the ruffles of pinks and purples on green.
Now, marvel at the multitude of
shadows and shades of this maple,
and finally, feast your eyes on
the layers upon layers of
colour and texture, like the
blazing coral and crispy nature
of this mature, mid-October character.
Oh, Autumnal Architecture,
alas, we must declare our
passionate, lifelong love affair!
What do you love about autumn?
Happy weekend!
xx
Poppy
Hello Poppy
ReplyDeleteIt looks to be a beautiful autumn season in Ontario. There is no doubt that is an Canadian sky.
Have a wonderful weekend
Helen xx
You caught some beautiful fall colors, Poppy. I love the crisp fall air in the morning and the sometimes earthy smell, especially after it has rained. The colorful leaves are little pieces of artwork.
ReplyDeleteHave a relaxing weekend! :)

Wow Poppy.....so much beauty to behold!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend to you,
Ruby
autumn's ablaze with amazing beauty! I love these!
ReplyDeleteIs that what they call the Indian Summer? Your autumn photos are just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love all the oranges and those pinks are a surprise!
ReplyDeleteWhat absolutely stunning colors! Those pink and blue shots are wonderful! I too love all of the vibrancy of fall. It warms my heart! Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteSouthern Ontario is so alive and lovely in it's Fall attire! You sure captured it's beauty in your photos.
ReplyDeleteOur Fall has been rain and clouds for three weeks now. I'm hoping for some sunshine soon....
Are you no longer in Crete? I love your blog posts!! You have such an eye for beauty....wherever you are!!!
ReplyDeletePoppy what majesty there is in your photos for that most beautiful of seasons who lays out her royal colors for us to behold. Have a wonderful Autumn my friend.
ReplyDeleteoh poppy. this is a simply glorious post. a true celebration!
ReplyDeletemy autumns now are mostly sweet memories. our climate here has changed.
we are still having temperatures of high summer. just as last year. and the year before. and then we wake one day and it's winter!
but what i loved best of autumn are the grey mist days that freshen your face on a walk when you're warm in your sweater... to go back to a cozy house with lamplight and hot chocolate and a great book. a cuddly soft throw across your lap and a window to sit by and dream autumn dreams.
bless you poppy!
and i like the new banner of your blog! and the pictures you've shared in the post are breathtaking. and that sweet picture of you and liberty. thank you! XOXOXO♥
That Canadian sky is truly marvelous! Such vivid pinks and blues, that although aren't traditional autumn colors, compliment the brilliant oranges so well.
ReplyDeleteThere's a special kind of beauty this time of year. Mother Nature's final goodbye. I do believe she's a bit of a drama queen ;).
Gorgeous pictures, Poppy! I do love the colors of Fall. So beautiful. Have a wonderful Sunday! Maria
ReplyDeleteAutumn is a seasonal parade of beauty isn't it! I love the colorful leaves and the skies when they are a rich blue. We often have a small bonfire going and there's something about that crisp air and the smell of the fire that go together. I enjoy may aspects of the season. Love your portrayal!
ReplyDeleteThe pinks are fabulous. What a wonderful surprise color for fall. I am a summer girl but I have to say fall is another fave for me too. Love the crisp air and the pretty colors.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kris
Autumn is my favorite season, especially for its rich earthy colors. Your photos are such a joy to look at.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Fall looks nothing like that here in the desert, but the weather is changing. Temps getting cooler and it now becomes our growing season which means flowers are blooming and gardens are growing. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteMy 'must see' list grows by the day, but fall in North America/Canada has been up there for most of my life. One day, perhaps. I too am enjoying the change of seasons, the drawing in of the days, the crisp autumn air, lighting the stove again.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to see all of your colors, Poppy. We do not seem to have a rainbow this year....still green, but waiting! It has to show up sometime, right? ;) Be well and enjoy your autumn splendor!
ReplyDeleteI love the colours and textures of autumns leaves, the clouds in the sky, the low sun and how it creates new shadows on the landscape, the bright green of the grass littered with leaves of red, orange and yellow and the hills alive with colour. Lovely post Poppy! Hugs. Pam
ReplyDeleteYour autumn colors are exquisite, Poppy! We are just seeing the leaves starting to change here. Enjoy the brief beauty of autumn!
ReplyDeleteLove all the colors, especially the pink leaves on the green grass!
ReplyDeleteAutumn's serenity. . .is what I love best. While it isn't my favorite season and can be depressing at times, it is a time to reflect on the year that has nearly slipped away and celebrate the successes and ponder what the new year might bring.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and sentiment, as always Poppy! What I like (Love is a strong word) about Fall is the beautiful colors. But to be totally honest, Fall is my least favorite season, being a Spring/Summer girl. Every year I fall (pun intended) into a slump because it reminds me of things dying and the long winter season ahead.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo's Poppy. I love all of the Fall colors and it is my favorite time of the year. although here in So CA we don't get the vibrant colors of the leaves, which I miss alot.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to see your post and that you are doing well. Take care my friend and have a wonderful week.
Hugs,
Mary
Hi Poppy, oh fall looks so pretty there. Fall is such a beautiful time of year. I hope all is well with you. Enjoy the weekend.

You are just so poetic...what a wonderful post. It used to be that Autumn would bring me down and taken me low through the cold, and the stillness of Winter's heartbeat and then as I have grown older, I have become more wiser in realizing that we must enjoy every single day, and view it as a gift. There is no Spring if we do not first have Autumn and there is no new growth unless we have the Autumnal buds develop long before the harshness of Winter's bite arrives. I love Autumn these past many years now and thank you for asking...Trees, watching the colours change, the layers, the textures of the tree trunks and branches that are finally seen, after coming out from underneath their green cloak of Summer. My next post will be all about the trees that grow upon this land I so affectionately call Tingsgrove, posting on the last friday of the month. Hugs to you my dear friend~
ReplyDeleteGreat photos filenada!!!I feel like beeing there, admiring the colourful nature and sky!!!!I like the calm and sparkling sea along with the sense of winter coming!!!!I like the warmth of home, being inside watching the dark clouds, the rain fall and flock of birds flying looking for shelter,or sitting by the fireplace with friends, drinking our favourite tea flavour!!!!Do you remember????
ReplyDeleteThe colours of autumn are always lovely and makes me smile as I drive to work or from work. Your post captured the season beautifully!
ReplyDeleteStunning autumnal colours in your photos, Poppy. I'm slow getting to your post, but I'm so glad I did. Enjoy this gorgeous time of year.
ReplyDeleteI have alternated between avoiding the autumn posts of my blog friends--it hurts too much--and gobbling them up hungrily, trying to live vicariously through them. And I know you understand this when I tell you that those from my beloved North Carolina mountains have especially made my heart both plummet and soar.
ReplyDeletePoppy dear, you know I am not blessed with the poetic soul you have and simply cannot figure out your two clues. So please dear friend, while I love all your words and all your magnificent pictures, especially the autumnal pinks, don't keep me guessing. What other two reasons make your heart giddy?
I know it must be as plain as the nose on my face but tell all......
Dewena
My dear Dewena,
DeleteMathematically, it looks something like this:
HUES (pinks + purples + coral) + RUFFLES (shadows + shades + layers + crispy) = (1)COLOUR + (2)TEXTURE {AUTUMNAL ARCHITECTURE}
Does this make any sense? It doesn't matter, really, as words and numbers just don't compare to experiencing autumn VISUALLY!
Miss you!
Poppy
I love all that and more about Fall! What gorgeous pictures! I have only ever seen purple and pink leaves one other time in the Berkshires of NY state. We are heading up to your hometown this weekend to go to the NBA game between the Cav's and the Raptors. My husband and son are into that.....I am into seeing Toronto once again. It has been since childhood. I only remember Yonge St....any ideas for places to visit? We only have Saturday and part of Sunday.
ReplyDeleteHi Annmarie,
DeleteWow! Well, you may be surprised to know that Yonge St. has probably changed a lot since your last childhood visit. There are many things to see, and a good place to pick and choose from all the wonderful and entertaining events/restaurants/museums/shopping centres, art galleries, etc., is this amazing site: http://www.blogto.com/. So check it out, and let me know how your visit went!
Enjoy your stay!
Poppy
Hello, Poppy! I didn't realize you were back to blogging until I saw your comment on Dewena's blog. Are you still living in Toronto or did you go back to Crete? Your pictures are so beautiful...
ReplyDeleteIt's a very good question! For years I was not a fan of Autumn. It held too much of the death of life and the grey and the dark and dank to come. Somehow as I have grown older I have become much better at seeing it right now for what it is. Now I love the warmth and the colour and the vivid and changing light.
