Hello everyone! It's been a while, huh? Hope you are all well! I've been busier than usual the last three weeks and haven't had the time or the energy to post at the end of each day, even though I kept promising myself that I would!
April 23rd is the feast day of St. George
in the Greek Orthodox church, and so we headed
south to a tiny chapel to attend church services.
in the Greek Orthodox church, and so we headed
south to a tiny chapel to attend church services.
The icons were beautifully adorned with flowers
that members brought from their gardens.
After a wonderful BBQ lunch, hosted by the congregation,
we picked pretty wildflowers in the gorgeous
landscape that surrounds the church.
Then, on the 27th, Liberty and I hosted the Ladies'
Philanthropic Society monthly coffee meeting, so baking
and cleaning were our top priorities for a few days.
From left: chocolate orange gateau, bacon onion tart,
an assortment of orange, almond and cinnamon cookies
and a Victoria sponge were the featured sweet and savoury fare.
Can you guess what followed?
Flowers, of course!
Yesterday, my nephew and his girlfriend arrived from Canada. It's always refreshing (and a little nostalgic), introducing Crete to our guests. The island's rich culture, culinary delights, spectacular scenery, ancient history and treasured traditions impress our visitors and never cease to amaze me, too, every time I have the pleasure of presenting it to newbies.
And speaking of newbies, the camera icon against that bright rainbow is a logo that caught my attention recently. Its array of applications have taken up a bit of my down time, lately, just after dinner dishes are done and shortly before bedtime! I'm definitely in the honeymoon stage, but I must admit, it's been a quick and easy way to be creative, make new friends and stay connected.
Most of all, though, it's convenient, since it only takes a few clicks to post a few pics every night. Nevertheless, it will not replace blogging, for me, since I thrive on reading and writing. Stunning photos are sweet eye candy, but 'hearty' words are what I find most satisfying.
Now, just like this sole lily, left all alone, since I picked all its petaled pals for various bouquets, there's one more thing that I have not yet mentioned that had kept me busier than everything else put together, but that's another post. Hope you all are having a lovely spring, so far. Promise I won't stay away too long, next time; I miss you all too much!
Thanks for visiting!
Such beauty: the views, your home, the flowers! I do hope you are happy and what a treat to have your daughter on the same side of the ocean. I take it she's inherited your talent for cooking and baking. I'll look forward to your next post.

So beautiful flowers and all the scenery!Looking forward to hearing your news!AriadnefromGreece!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with your view on blogging (reading and writing) versus Instagram (photography).
ReplyDeletePrayers, good food, beautiful flowers and everything else mentioned and displayed as photos in your blog, are things that enrich our life.
So lovely to see your post, Poppy! I love your green background and header! Your photos are so beautiful, I love the home, flowers and the food looks very good, too! I enjoyed everything here that you are sharing. Thank you so much! :)
ReplyDeleteLove hearing what you've been up to, my neighbor to the south. Seems I too have been busy but can't quite put my finger on anything in particular! I've noticed you are on Instagram -- don't go leaving the blogosphere for it!! xxxx J.
ReplyDeleteYour home is lovely, and all those flowers, oh my! My daughter is heading to Greece tomorrow, her first visit - she's so excited!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful!! I hope she has an amazing time, Debbie!
DeletePoppy - Glad to see your post! As always, your countryside is so pretty. I hope to visit there some day. Your flowers look so good. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteJudy
What a lovely home full of beautiful flowers!!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to be there smelling all the aromas. I love your sitting area that´s fronting the fireplace..reminds me of my living room in Spain. Have a nice Wednesday ahead and keep on inspiring me dear Poppy!
xo,
Mercy
Your home is filled with light and delicate colour; it's beautiful. There's nothing like a gathering of women to galvanize us into house cleaning, is there? The flowers are all so pretty, and the food looks delicious. I recently joined Instagram, too, and don't really know what to do with it. Now you've left us hanging with your last paragraph!
ReplyDeleteI'm eager to know what's kept you busy, besides all the things you mentioned! Come back soon - I love you colorful and newsy posts.
ReplyDeleteThe pastoral photo near the church is too beautiful for words, but let me try: buccolic, surreal, calming and romantic are some, that while they fall short somehow, hopefully communicate how I feel.
ReplyDeleteThe table you and Libby prepared looks and sounds divine! I have no doubt you wowed your lucky guests.

You have really been busy Poppy. I am so glad that you are fully immersed in Greek country life. For me this is the best time of the year before things get too hot. Beautiful photography as always and I am so envious of your green thumb.
ReplyDeleteYour home and your world are stunning Poppy! Love that Cala lily. Jackie
ReplyDeleteI would so love to visit your beautiful country some day! Your pictures are always gorgeous, like you live in a magazine! Glad to be caught up with what's going on in your life. Glad to see you on Instagram!!
ReplyDeleteOh Poppy, what stunning photos! Your home is truly amazing!
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs to you!
Nooooo, you can't leave us hanging like that, Poppy! Looking forward to learning about that one more thing that's been keeping you busy. Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos. Your ladies luncheon treats have me downright hungry (haven't had breakfast yet) and remind me of our time in Germany a few summers ago. We were introduced to some of those treats like the bacon onion tart, which I've since got the recipe. Can't wait, like you, to do some digging in the dirt to plant flowers (as you know, us Canadians plant in late May). In the meantime, see you on IG!
ReplyDeleteOh Poppy I always enjoy seeing your beautiful pictures. Have a wonderful rest of the week and great Mom's Day.
ReplyDeleteHug,
Kris
Oh so glad to hear from you Poppy. I was wondering what was going on. I think I know what you are going to tell us.......
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are stunning and everything is so beautiful. Love all your flowers that you planted. I love going on early in the morning and seeing all the flowers - with a cup of coffee.
Stop by and see my Spring Garden post. Have been busy trying to keep up everything too. Still pondering if I want to sell and move or stay here - guess i am fickle.
Have a wonderful Mothers Day with Liberty.
Hugs dear friend,
Mary
I love seeing all your stunning flower and landscape photos from Crete...I've been happily following you along on IG! But like you said, it's not a substitute for blogging. Words and stories have their place, too. I need to get up and start cleaning in earnest here, too as I have a friend coming to visit tomorrow. I'll be anxious to hear what else is going on in your life that's keeping you busy! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my...and eye candy it is! Your photos are always just SO very stunning! Your home is absolutely gorgeous, magazine worthy, actually. And yes, I see all of the loveliness you have been posting to Instagram. I am a rather newbie too and like you, it's fun to do but is not a great substitute for blogging, I agree...fun to send quick pics out stay connected although sometimes days go by without me posting a thing! Enjoy the rest of your week!
ReplyDeleteI dance between my blog, facebook and instagram. I've caught several of your photos on instagram but I'm not consistent! Love seeing where you live and the different events you participate in. The BBQ with church members looks like it was a big hit! The luncheon you and Liberty hosted had some wonderful foodie items. Of course I'm a big flower geek so seeing your new plantings makes me happy! I'm just about to put mine together but still a bit fearful of frosts. It's been a real up and down spring here. Big hugs from afar, Liz
ReplyDeleteIt was nice catching up with you. And I agree, pictures are great, but words are necessary...
ReplyDeleteHi Poppy and what a lovely way to get back into the groove after three weeks absence. I am still so happy when I look and see that not only you, but also Liberty are back home in Crete now for quite a while, it is just so beautiful there. The Greek Orthodox church seems like a sweet connection from family to extended family and that is as it should be. Entertaining guests in your beautiful home and preparing such a scrumptious lunch, the posies all planted and looking fresh with their faces all looking toward the camera...such blessings you have served up and I have accepted them as well as other friends who always look forward to your shares. Hugs~
ReplyDeleteoh poppy!
ReplyDeletei just got my computer back from the geek squad tonight. i had been hacked again by a scammer. and to come back to this beautiful gift of a post!!! those gorgeous flowers on the terrace! oh my.
i just love it all. and i especially love seeing your living room with the sunlight shining in! it's YOU. your lightness of touch and love of color and oh it's so inviting!
i'm glad you're so busy. it will make missing your little liberty easier perhaps. XOXO♥
Poppy, we're friends, right? So I can tell you that there is one thing very very wrong with this post..........it just makes it too darn hard for me not to be THERE!
ReplyDeleteI want to be sitting in your living room--or surely that's just a beautiful watercolor? But if it's real, I want to sit there and listen to the conversation of your friends and neighbors. And I want to have a slice of that bacon and onion tart and definitely a piece of your famous Victorian sponge--are there strawberries In it? You know I always have a strawberry dessert for my birthday. And then I want to walk out that open door into the glorious sunshine on your terrace and greet each flower pot, and even further where I can gather enough wildflowers for a bouquet for your kitchen table. Just let me grab my sunhat first.
If only.........
Now you try to get some rest, Poppy dear,
Dewena
Ahh, soaking up the colors on your page is practically medicinal.
ReplyDeleteStopped by yesterday, took it all in quietly.
Lovely day to you, Poppy.
I enjoyed looking at your colorful life!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely post, your photographs and the colours within are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou have been busy ...
Lovely to read your news.
Enjoy the remainder of the weekend
All the best Jan
A lovely post Poppy! Your home looks so pretty and inviting for your group's lunch meeting and the food looks amazing. I found you on IG! I don't blog as often as I used to now but try to check in with my faves when I can and keep up to date. I am curious about the 'one' more thing that is keeping you busy so I'll check back soon. :-) Take care. Hugs, Pam
ReplyDeleteBeautiful beautiful photos, Poppy. I especially like the one of the long lunch table, it looks like a scene from a movie where interesting things are about to happen.

It's lovely to read what you have been up to Poppy and to see the spring through your camera. I've been absent lately too. It is late autumn here and it has been warm until the last few days and now as I write it is raining outside and winter is clutching at us.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy spring! The afternoon tea you shared looks delicious!
What beautiful pictures! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post, Poppy! I love seeing Crete through your eyes. I learn so much. You can host a party for me anytime ... your home is lovely and the food -- Oh My! Thanks for sharing St. George! Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteLovely shots; happy Mosaic Monday
ReplyDeletemuch love...
Snap! I so could have written that first paragraph and I too love Instagram so have found you and followed! I am looking forward to reading about what has been keeping you so busy in whichever form you chose to discuss it!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy week.

So enjoyed visiting your beautiful home and island once again. And enjoying (with my eyes) all that wonderful food. And the flowers. I'm glad you are still going to blog.... because I too enjoy both words and pictures ....
ReplyDeleteI did a double-take when I saw your icon next to mine on Mosaic Monday because my post has the same title as yours...tho a slightly different meaning for "Catching Up" in my case.
