Credenza Extravaganza

Hello, all!
Well, after a month of cleaning and clearing, I was getting dangerously rather cranky and then, well, I completely conked out! I must say, multi-tasking is one of my fortes - isn't it every woman's (?) - you know what I mean: simultaneously delegating the dirty stuff to the washing machine and dishwasher, dinner doing its thing, simmering on the stove, thus, leaving me hands free to mop the freshly vacuumed floors, while I get the latest deets on all the drama in Canada during a conference call with my mom and sister!

Yet multi-tasking isn't all it's cracked up to be. In fact, I recently read that in the workplace, it actually leads to more mistakes! Since I was desperately craving some creativity, I devoted all my concentration on decorating the credenza  and found it was the perfect pick-me-up perk!  Excited about restyling it with a few new cuties from Canada, like the cool, cow creamer, above, I made sure not to even think about focusing on anything else (like back breaking bath tub scrubbing, for example!) until my project was completed.

For the most part, I worked with what I had, like the
sweet, butterfly candy dish that sat in the sun room
for a long time, and the dainty, floral teapot,

which used to be displayed in the
glass cabinet in the kitchen, above.

The same goes for the white, scalloped edge, French
dishes, setting a foundation on the bottom shelf.

They were stacked on the kitchen's open shelving for years.

This latest arrangement, to me, is fresh, light and cheery. It screams sings 'spring' to me. Those of you who have been following Poppy View for a while know that the credenza usually changes with the seasons.

Case in point #1: Christmas!

Case in point #2: bursting with summer blooms.

So, until spring actually does arrive, at which point I will joyfully pick narcissus, geraniums and freesia from our garden, to fill empty creamers with splashes of floral fragrance, the breakfast nook credenza will be on stand by, unlike me, who's already got a lot on her plate!

Thanks for visiting!

Celebrating Easter

Yesterday, we celebrated Easter Sunday,
and hosted a picnic lunch, indoors!

Although the weather was perfect for this Canadian
expat, my husband's clan, all born and bred Cretans,
decided it was still too cool to dine al fresco.

Nevertheless, the sun showed up, brilliantly brightening the
breakfast nook, to cast a sweet light on lemony cookies,
tasty pastries and traditional, red Easter eggs.

In the dining room, Ms. Betty, our beautiful bunny,
overlooked all the busyness. Behind her, a famous bunch
of boating buddies, indulge in their own lovely luncheon.

Taking a little rest, before my guests arrived, I checked
off the last of my chores, just as the doorbell rang!

Soon, we were all outside, under the warm, Cretan sun,
and amid leafy vineyards and thick olive groves, we
tended to the fire, as we joyfully toasted,

''Χριστός Aνέστη! - Christos Anesti! - Christ is Risen!''

Before long, our indoor picnic lunch was served, and
just in time, too, as the spring breeze caught wind of
our festivities, and picked up speed, eager to catch
a whiff of the delicious aromas floating in the air!

It was a glorious day of good food, leisurely strolls
in the flowery meadows, and family fun. But most
importantly, it was a gathering to celebrate
and honour the Resurrection of God's Son.

Thanks for visiting!
xoxo

A Sweetheart from West Sussex

On Sunday, my sweet friend, Maria, and her lovely family,
came to visit all the way from West Sussex, England.

At our first meeting, my dear friend surprised me with a stay
at a five star luxury hotel, for some serious girlfriend tête-à-tête time,

which included cocktails by the pool, a soothing spa treatment,
al fresco dining, live jazz, and loads of laughs.

Days later, I joined Maria and family for an excursion
to Archanes, while Sunday was spent here, in the village,
for our annual BBQ lunch, now a family tradition.

Among the usual fired up fare and summery sides, the meal
always includes my coconut cream pie -her only request!

My only request was that she not bring a thing.
Is that too much to ask for,
especially after spoiling me with that gorgeous getaway?!

But no... she had to cater to her friend's sweet tooth,
and showed up with an assortment of petite pastries, too pretty to eat,

along with some other precious parcels,
to be presented in an upcoming post!

What can I say? She's a kind and generous gal.
I love her dearly; she is my soul sister and I will miss her terribly!

In a snap (!)  - her short, but sweet visit came to a close.
Back in Britain, she is revitalized and ready for her English routine.

And so, in between cooking, cleaning and car pooling,
she can be found ringing up yours truly,
ready to rampantly reminisce for hours!

Thanks for visiting!

And, to Brenda, at Cozy Little House,
thanks for the shout out, 'Coach'!
