The Cubbyhole


Our guest bedroom is probably the quietest room in the house.


Calm colours painted on porcelain plates,


and pretty petals printed on panels,


 which, when drawn, 


reveal hidden islands in the haze,


and mountain peaks that pierce the sky. 




Smaller than the other bedrooms, 

it feels like a happy, little cubbyhole,


tucked away, in a flowery meadow, or nestled in a pile of leaves.

 A cozy cradle of calm,

    You are such a brave soul, compared to me. I am so afraid to use bright colours in our home and when I do, the sun fades them fast away. These are but another beautiful share of brightness that would bring sunshine in to a home even on a rain spent afternoon~

    So pretty, Poppy! In my very first apartment, I had a similar brass bed. Brings back fond memories of my very first grown up place. Your cousin's painting is beautiful and full of wonderful texture and colors. I want to be a guest :)

    Between all of the cheery fabrics, paintings (love your cousin's painting!), homey touches, and I'm sure, hospitality to match, I would think your guests would feel so comfortable, they wouldn't want to leave! And that view!!!! Your guests are very lucky people, Poppy!

    Good Morning Poppy, I would not describe your guest room as a cubby hole, I would describe it as a haven. It looks so peaceful and tranquil and it would be a pleasure for anyone who sleeps in the room.
    Your cousin Elaine is certainly a talented artist, I love the vibrant painting. It certainly reminds me of walking through fallen leaves, which by the way is beginning to happen here in England.

    What a sweet wee cubbyhole! I can see this in a tiny book by Beatrix Potter for one of her littlest friends. I can easily picture the cubbyhole done in watercolors with the precious lamp--did you embellish it yourself?--that darling ceiling fixture and the painting, not to mention the serendipitous Van Gogh poppy poster! To retreat there as the sun disappeared and night fell, your guest would sleep ever so soundly. And then she would wake up, rub the sleep from her eyes and step to the window to pull back the blue gingham and flowered curtains to see that view below! Soon though she would sniff the air and smell Greek coffee and something baking and rush to find Poppy. Heavenly!

    That is such a pretty room. Any guest would be honored to sleep there. I love everything but I think my favorite item is the lampshade. It's so intricate and beautiful and I just love the colors.

    The first time I visited the Grand Canyon it looked fake. Just like a scene out of a spaghetti western.

    Oh you would have a hard time getting rid of me! What a lovely cozy bedroom. Love the ruffles on the pillowcase and the view. I could sit on the bed and look at the view for hours!
