Perfume, Petals, and Playing Stylist

My favourite scent for a while now,
Love Spell, by Victoria's Secret,
is characterized by its fruity and floral fragrance.

The fruity factor comes from the peachy pop of freshness,

while cherry blossom infuses with the sweet scent
of the flower's pale, pink petals.

My cousin Elaine, who is much younger than me,
was wearing it one day when we met for a family breakfast,
in Toronto, a few years back.

When reading reviews on this fragrance,
I wasn't surprised to discover that it appealed
mostly to a younger generation of women,
(okay, teenagers!)

I guess that's where the 'flirty' comes in,
according to the description on the company's website.

I was feeling rather frisky myself, (with my styling, that is!),
and on a whim, I spritzed on some of
this subtly sweet potion, and styled away!

There are also hints of chamomile and white jasmine
in this magical mist, reminding me of the summery scents
that surround my garden, still floating in the autumn air.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. I love perfume and what one may feel after a spritz; now I am curious and have to go and check it out...I have many bottles of different scents basically my everyday scents are a couple I found that I liked when I sold Avon ...Haiku and Imari Seduction...Halston is what I wore like armor in my 20's and 30's still a go to...but the special one is my Chanel No # 5 ...they do make us feel special. Loved your pictures and displays.... have a beautiful day !

    1. Hi Marisa,

I love Avon products! I used to wear Sweet Honesty for years, while in my teens, and still have a bottle of it here in Greece, as my daughter, Liberty, was enchanted by it! My university years were characterized by Ralph Lauren's 'Lauren' and Cacharel's 'Anais Anais'. I have always liked 'Happy' in the summer, as well as 'CK One', again, by Calvin Klein. Thanks for stopping by and please go spritz some 'Love Spell' on a tester and get taken away!

  3. Poppy, you have not only flirted with femininity here, you've embraced it!
So pretty. One of my daughter's names is Jasmine Chloe.
Thank you for introducing me to this scent, your powder room looks lovely.

    1. Hi Lucy,

      Thank you!

Jasmine Chloe is such a beautiful name! For those who are interested, Jasmine comes from the Persian name, Yasmin, and Chloe (Greek), was another name for the goddess, Demeter, and also 'refers to the young, green foliage or shoots of plants' (Wikipedia)

Thanks so much for stopping by, Lucy!

    2. Wow Poppy, I'm glad I came back to see if you replied:)
I knew Jasmine was a flower and I loved the prettiness of it. Did not know Chloe's origin.
Thank you for sharing that my friend.

  4. I dare say this is one of the most 'feminine' of posts I've ever seen Poppy! Such prettiness :).

I am not familiar with the scent you speak of, but it sounds lovely. Just recently I admired a perfume a woman was wearing and it turned out to be one that I wore in my teens. For the life of me I can't remember the name now. It will come to me. Scents have a way of conjuring up memories more than most of our senses.

    Have a wonderful week Poppy!

    1. Hi Doreen,

Thanks so much! I completely agree with you; scents do have ability to remind us of memorable events, moments, or a specific feeling! For me, I think my sense of smell is probably my most finely tuned of the senses, as my eyesight has naturally weakened with age, and my taste buds are sometimes fooled by hormone fluctuations, and as far as my hearing goes, I've recently been bothered by buzzing in my ears, and it comes and goes, actually, according to stress levels! Thank goodness for flowers, freshly washed clothes, cakes, and yes, floral and fruity fragrances!

      Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Hi Amy,

Thanks! I got a little dizzy trying to snap that bird's eye view...probably went a tad overboard with the spritzing and should have stayed grounded, as I was already kind of 'flying' from the fragrance!

      Thanks for stopping by!

  7. I like Love Spell too! Actually, most of my favorite scents are probably intended for younger girls but I like the fresh, fruity ones too. I only have one perfume that seems like a "grown up" one, which is Burberry. I love Clinique Happy and Happy Heart and I also love light body sprays. But my all-time favorite is Love's Baby Soft, which I started wearing when I was about seven! :)

    1. Hi Jennifer,

The first time I got a whiff of Burberry, I thought, now this, is original! Was quite tempted to purchase it as a birthday gift to myself at Toronto's Pearson International Airport duty free shops, but resisted, as it was rather pricey, even with the tax break! Haven't heard of Love's Baby Soft, will have to check it out!

      Thanks for visiting!

  8. Beautiful styling!

I cannot smell. Of the 5 senses, it is probably the easiest to live without. Obviously I would prefer to hear, and see and touch. But, on those random 5 or 6 days a year when my nose work, I am greeted by the lovely aroma of roses in my garden or one of Steve's delicious concoctions on the stove. I don't wear perfume because I have no idea if it is overwhelming to others.

    1. Hi Carol,

Wow! But, yes, I can see your point; the sense of smell is probably the easiest to live without! I wonder, are your other senses more acute because of this? Like your decorating sense, for instance, which wows from afar!! ;-D

  12. What a fun girly party you had here today in your beautiful bathroom with the feminine clutch of perfumes on your lovely vanity! Am I too late? I have never smelled Love Spell but will have to stop in the mall for a spritz just because Poppy wears it! Cherry is one of my favorite perfume scents and I have used Thymes Red Cherie for years on my sheets.

My personal favorite right now is Givenchy's Ange ou Demon. But for many years R.H. gave me the famous little black bottle of Joy every Christmas. And that was a real sacrifice for him at the time and I did not get much else! About 10 years ago I began to feel that it was too young for me and asked him to stop buying it for me.

I think the scent promised too much! I was in a crowded elevator once while wearing Joy and a young man got in, then sniffed the air, hummed hmmmm, turned around with a smile on his face, quickly turned around again when he saw that it was only me with my white hair. Sort of felt like I was doing false advertising.

    1. Hi Dewena,

Isn't it interesting that we naturally refer to fragrances as 'young' or 'old' or 'serious' or 'flirty'?! I find this feminine characteristic so amazing, but yes, we just KNOW! It doesn't 'feel' right on us, either because of our age, or personality, or mood at the time of testing a specific scent on the tiny scrap of paper, specially cut just for that purpose, in addition to what's going on in our lives at that time. The sense of smell, obviously is very closely connected to the cerebral and emotional fibres of our being.

You could never falsely advertise a fragrance that you, yourself, find alluring, calming or refreshing!

    1. Hi Candy,

Thank you! We celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving last month, but thank you just the same.I am not surprised to learn how many women are allergic to perfume. I know that certain fragrances are too strong for my taste, and I actually feel nauseated and dizzy when I come into contact with them.

  16. Your bathroom is beautiful! Love the flowers and the feminine touches. I think when it comes to perfumes or fragrances you have to ignore the names and the advertising. I actually love Tommy Girl...it's my favorite. I'm always embarrassed to tell someone what it is though.

    1. Hi Stacey,

Thank you! You are absolutely right! We are so brainwashed by advertising. How many times have we seen a particular commercial for a product, only to discover that it is so far removed from how it was portrayed in the advertisement?!

I tend to latch on to a fragrance if I like the way it smells on someone, that's my first contact with it. I then spray it on myself the next time I'm in a drugstore or department store and wear it for a few hours, while I do my shopping, etc. But, really it's about the chemistry, both of the actual ingredients of the perfume and the connection I have with it, and if it was instant attraction, then it usually grows into everlasting love!

  19. You did some beautiful playing there in your bathroom vignette, Poppy. I love to wear perfume, and usually spritz on something every day, even when I'm just going to be home. One of my faves is "Happy" by Clinique. It is just so fresh and perfect for our Arizona climate.

Our large family now draws names for adults and I got her name and right away she said...I Love Victoria Secret anything, and so I am sure I will be testing this fragrance very soon. I have worn Lavender for about 12 years now, as Shalimar, just became too strong for me..
