Am I the only woman on the planet who visits
wineries for their naturally distressed barrels,
instead of indulging in what's hiding inside them?
The Patio, Gallucci Winery, Stouffville, Ontario, Canada |
Do I strike you as completely crazy for trying to capture
the bucolic essence of these vine lined estates, when I
should be sipping on a glass of smoky Sauvignon Blanc?
My mom observes our lovely tour guide, Gwen. Willow Springs Winery, Stouffville, Ontario, Canada |
And, why is it that while others excitedly await to tickle
their taste buds, I am obsessed with the sense of sight -
might that beam of sunlight be too bright for my pics?
Frilly, white flowers beautifully fill the windows at Willow Springs Winery. |
I've even been criticized for getting drunk on the
sheer elegance of flowers, when I should be
smelling the roses infusing a glass of Pinot Noir!

But, for some strange reason, I'm suddenly
craving something slightly more bubbly!
Won't you join me?

Won't you join me?

Thanks for visiting
and happy weekend!

So nice to visit wineries in Ontario, I can imagine your eyes were more drawn to the beauty of the views outside than the wine itself. Lovely old barrels, you have an eye for beauty, nevertheless I think what´s in the inside tastes good too.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice Sunday Poppy!
Hello Poppy, a winery tour with your family sounds like fun! I admit I would be tasting the wine and enjoying the pretty scenery! Your images are lovely. Enjoy your day and have a great new week ahead!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful winery tour! Those are some wonderful old barrels, thanks for sharing! Oh and I'd like a taste of some wine please!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy Sunday, Poppy!
Nancy
Thank you for letting me see the winery through your eyes, Poppy!
ReplyDeleteThe beauty of the place would be my highlight too.
My husbands Aunt lives in Stouffville. She has mentioned that there are many Amish
or perhaps it was Mennonite folks.
I love to visit wineries. I do indulge in all the wine tasting. You just keep enjoying the other aspects. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely venue, Poppy! I am not a drinker...I always seem to be the designated driver instead! That's ok, lucky for me, I get drunk on the surroundings, like you! :)
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful, Poppy. I love to go to the wineries, too. (and I don't even drink wine!)
ReplyDeleteThey are always the most bucolic.
Hugs,
Patti
Poppy, distressed barrels - sigh, the grounds of Gallucci winery captured and beautifully photographed by you. Your posts always have a romantic allure to them and this post was greatly enjoyed. I love wine, all countries and regions. For me wine is a celebration of life. From the beauty of the wineglass to the taste on the lips as it hits the palate and its taste is defined.
ReplyDeleteYour photo essays combined with your words always is a joy and I get excited to see a new post from you.
xoxo,
Vera
Hello Poppy. Thank you for your comment on mine - I was hoping you would come by as I knew it would resonate with you. You are obviously a very visual person and your photos are always full of colour, which is lovely. Any plans to return to Crete?
ReplyDeleteI would love to share a glass of bubbly with you Poppy!! I like wineries for the wine and the ambience, but I can understand why you like the ambience so very much!! xx
ReplyDeleteNo, not crazy, but can't you do both.....lol? Maybe you should take the pics first! You always have just the most beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteLovely Annabelle hydrangeas through the windows - and I'd be sitting with your sweet mom patiently awaiting a glass of whatever was being offered there, LOL!
ReplyDeleteHope all is well - Mary x
Come join us on the latest edition of "Through My Lens". The link-up is open now on my blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post Poppy, and what a gorgeous part of the world you live in! Those white hydrangea paniculata are just divine, aren't they? A new follower here. Love, Mimi xxx
ReplyDeletePoppy...sorry...pressed 'publish' too soon...lol! I've just visited Greece and adored it, and I wondered whether you'd share your posts at my Five Star Frugal linkup at A Tray of Bliss? We share elegant ways of living for less, and I can't think of a more five star frugal thing than admiring your beautiful photos of far away Crete. Love, Mimi xxx

Ah, Poppy, how much I would like to enjoy a good wine the way my family does but I'm the one who orders some kind of a sissy spritzer. I love cooking with wine and spirits but if I imbibed it would be nap time for me. I do admit to enjoying an excellent Bloody Mary when out for brunch.
ReplyDeleteI'd be there in the winery admiring the barrels with you, and the shape of the glasses and listening to the wine-speak and wondering when they were going to bring food out!
And how about that cart in your first picture that the old wine barrels are sitting on? Wouldn't that make a fabulous coffee table in a mountain lodge!
So I'll join you, dear friend, in framing the perfect picture shot and I bet we'd leave there as elevated in spirits as everyone else!
Cheers!
Dewena
I'm as much about the experience as the tasting. The rustic barrels, the flowers - wineries are beautifully situated. Your photos are lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great tour of the winery - I would love to be sitting there and having a nice glass of wine and looking at all the beautiful sights.
ReplyDeleteI always love when I go to visit my son and we go to Napa and taste the wine.
Your photos are stunning - thanks so much for sharing them with us.
So good to hear from you my friend and have a wonderful week.
Hugs
Mary
We've only ever visited the wineries in Prince Edward County and Niagara. We'll have to check out the Stouffvile area next!
ReplyDeleteHi Poppy, wow how fun to visit the winery with your family. It is so pretty there and thanks for sharing your day with us.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week.
Julie
This looks so fun and I'm sure the wineries and vineyards were gorgeous. I've only done a few tours and I always enjoyed the vineyards the most. I do love wine but I only drink white and I'm particular to say the least. Fussy, I know!!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to catch up, Poppy---I hope to get back a lot more in the next few weeks,:)
Jane x
I too am captivated by the rustic elegance of wine barrels, but I'll admit I'm just a tad more interested in their contents ;)
ReplyDeleteWineries are like golf courses...they're all beautiful!
Poppy I am not a drinker so I would be right there with you enjoying the atmosphere around the winery too. Those barrels are awesome. Have a great new week.
ReplyDeleteKris
I am not a wine drinker, but Steve likes to go wine tasting with me so I can drive home. I usually spend my time walking around the vineyard taking photos!
ReplyDeleteWhat alovely visit to this place. I particularly love the shot of the white flowers through the window. Glad you enjoyed the trip and I love those barrels in the first shot. Have a great week ahead.
ReplyDeletei'm with you!
ReplyDeletei'd be out playing with the ducks... listening to the falling water and wishing to feel the fountain's cooling mist on my face...
soaking up the beauty of the flowers and the green vistas... relishing the quietness of growing grapes.
only then would i be ready for a glass of wine... maybe! xoxo♥
You aren't the only one! I'm not a big wine fan but I do love to go to wineries. They are always beautiful and relaxing. When I was in Upstate New York a few weeks ago we visited several. :)
ReplyDeleteI am not a drinker Poppy, and I heartily agree with you that the beauty of the places you visited is far more satisfying than what is inside the barrels, lol! Your pictures, as always are incredible, and draw the viewer in, in such a way as to feel that you have visited the place yourself! Glad you are continuing to have a beautiful time with your family! :)
ReplyDeleteI am not surprised that we share yet another 'favorite' and that is the wine barrel. I love wine barrel planters and now the new line of furniture makes we want to do a whole room in 'wine barrel' motif. Loved your photos - hope you got tipsy - just a bit, of course - on both the wine and the winery.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! I would rather enjoy the scenery and such around me than sip the bubbly. ;) Lovely photos. I've never visited a winery. Enjoy! And Happy September to you.
ReplyDeleteThis winery is quite elegant looking. Love the pond! I don't drink wine at all but I love visiting wineries for the feeling they all seem to have. Cozy, with all those wood barrels, grapevine décor and they usually have a cute café and tasting area. My husband sips and I check out the gift store after walking the pretty grounds.
ReplyDeleteI agree! The views are just as intoxicating! Lovely shots!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place, dear Poppy, and no, I don't think you're crazy {{smiles}} The sights are incredibly lovely and refreshing. Thanks for sharing with Roses of Inspiration. It's SO good to have you back at the party. Hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteI have to snicker because I'm the same way! These wineries are often located on beautiful pieces of land and the buildings are often accented with nice landscaping. Our area has been expanding with wineries for some time now and to my surprise doing very well. Who would have thought the grapes could take these cold temps but they do!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I would rather just drink in all the of the beautiful sights with my eyes! I do love the smells too and the barrels are just wonderful....no doubt there is a lot to "drink in" in your lovely post! Happy Tuesday :)
ReplyDeleteHi there...happy to see a new post : )
ReplyDeleteAhhhh Poppy, Mr. Frugalista and I love spend afternoons in the Niagara Region (when I accompany him on business trips) or the Okanagan to visit local wineries. I like to take in the surroundings of each winery as much as I do their glasses of liquid gold. Looks like you had a very pleasant afternoon with your Mom.
ReplyDeleteYou sound like my kind of gal, ha ha and yet oh yes do give me a glass of cold sparkling sweet bubbly and I shall partake of one glass and then also enjoy all of the surroundings and take photos while everyone else slinks into a wine tasting stupor. So good to see you and I always enjoy my visits so much. Take care~ Hugs
ReplyDeleteMiła Mariko:) Dziekuje za Twoje odwiedziny i miłe słowa...dobrze wiedzieć o Tobie więcej...pozdrawiam i życzę usmiechu:)
DeleteHaha, I am with you. I like wine, but I love the scenery outside the tasting rooms so much better. There are many wineries and vineyards by our farm. They are all well landscaped and peaceful.
ReplyDeleteWe should go together.....I'll have your wine while you admire the scenery :) Gorgeous photos, Poppy. Happy September. xo
ReplyDeleteHi Poppy. I'm featuring this post at Five Star Frugal this week. Thanks for sharing. I love it! Hope to see you again this week. Love, Mimi xxx
ReplyDeleteEven though I like wine I would be as interested as you are with the barrels. We went to Napa, CA and the barrels were had such character. The atmosphere of wineries are unique with such beautiful landscaping.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful vineyard Poppy!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy a glass of wine but like you I would be keen to get a photographic story too!
A fun day out with your Mum.
I love your photo of the Annabelle Hydrangeas through the quarter pane windows.
Hugs
Shane x
What a beautiful winery. I think that it is nice that we all look for beauty and joy in different places.

Ha ha, what a great post! I´am with you...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures from a beautiful winery!
Take care dear,
Titti
What an enchanting post, Poppy! I would like to indulge in both, myself ;)
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is gorgeous there.
xo,
rue
Beautiful pictures Poppy! Thank you for sharing on the Art of Home-Making Mondays last week. Hope to see some of your lovely posts this week :)
ReplyDeleteLovely series of photos, Poppy, and your header is beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteI can tell that you are very much a visual person, Poppy! You are so very aware of the beauty around you and I'm glad you carry your camera with you--these photos are a treat from the first to the last. I've only been on a few wine tours but I loved the actual vineyard most and I'm afraid I only like white wines so much of the tasting was wasted on me!
ReplyDeleteThank you for a lovely comment today. Are you still visiting your family? I knew you were going to be in Canada for a while.
Hugs to you!
Jane x
LOL - you are a photographer, not a wine lover.... What lovely photos!
ReplyDeleteNo, not a surprise, that you would rather drink everything in with your eyes! But it sure would be a good time to multitask!
