Breaking News: Cretan Cat Steals Santa's Hat

In the early morning hours of Friday, December 12th, a Cretan cat, known as P.R., was seen wearing a velvety red hat, with a white, furry trim and pom pom, (in addition to a very suspicious look on his face). The hat in question, is believed to belong to Santa Claus. Some witnesses also recall seeing a set of keys near the capped creature,

but this observation could not be confirmed. Interestingly, they all agreed that the suspect showed no sign of trying to flee the scene. On the contrary, it soon became apparent that

the cat actually seemed to be enjoying the presence of the onlookers, none of whom could believe their eyes, when the feisty feline actually began to model the signature hat. One passerby exclaimed, 'He was strutting his stuff on that stone runway with no remorse whatsoever!'. Only when police sirens could be heard in the distance, did the suspect stumble for a second on the catwalk, before quickly managing to dive into his getaway vehicle, standing by behind a hedge of bushes,

and later found abandoned, a few miles from the scene of the crime, behind a stack of firewood. It is believed that the suspect is now driving a candy cane red 1955 Chevy Bel Air Convertible,

after its owner, realizing his keys had disappeared during the frenzy at the fashion show, contacted the authorities. The photo above was taken by hidden surveillance cameras just minutes before the suspect made a pit stop for a strawberry milkshake at a favourite fast food outlet. He can be seen smugly flaunting the cap on his tail, in complete daylight, impervious to the shocking reactions of those around him. Anyone having information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at:
1-555-FIND-CAT

Undoubtedly, this behaviour baffles the mind! What could cause a cat to snatch Santa's hat? The motive, itself, is a mystery, but several whiskered witnesses stated that P.R. has a penchant for, (if not a preoccupation with), hats, and not just any old hats, but those belonging to famous folks. In fact, just this fall, P.R. was seen, on many occasions, sporting a cap that was remarkably reminiscent of one that the great detective, Sherlock Holmes is known to don during his own investigations.

PR, impersonating the great Sherlock Holmes, on the same stone runway, September, 29th, 2014.

Coincidentally, at around that same time, a newspaper article reported that a trademark, plaid cap, part of a rare collection that belonged to Detective Holmes, on exhibit at a local museum, had gone missing. Due to his reputation as a 'cat of many hats', P.R. was a prime suspect, but after a lengthy investigation, all charges against him were dropped, for lack of incriminating evidence. The question now is: will Santa follow suit, or, being the jolly old elf that he is, simply consider it an early Christmas gift, albeit, for a kitty that was very naughty and not so nice?!

happy weekend!

Poolside Pastimes

Under a canopy of
  autumn toned leaves,
a shady, summertime spot,
 I plant myself daily
with my favourite anthology
and plenty of good food for thought.

I am poolside.
Propped up near my pretties,

and not far from the feline
that likes to flirt with the lens,

a pastime of his own,
 for which he is well-known,

and one he can even do in his sleep!

But I digress.
So, back to my maple,

Adorable Annuals

Early this morning, I found the cutie patooties
on my patio cuddled together trying to shade each
other from the scorching heat of the Mediterranean sun.

Shutters closed, doors locked, and windows sealed, only
the bravest of beauties confront the blazing, torrid temps.

Portulaca, thriving, since last seen here

Thankful for refreshing sea views and some shelter
from the eaves trough, the colourful, boxed ones are
cooler, and thus, more courageous, hanging out on
the balcony and the terrace, above.

Empty pots, piled on the front lawn,
await new inhabitants, but the very bright
spot deters those who cannot tolerate full sun.

Close to amenities, however, (a direct pathway to the
pool, and just steps away from the main water supply),

new tenants were tracked down, and a lease was
signed, (just for the season, of course!).

 Because, in the end,

whether you're a cutie patootie,

or an adorable, precious kitty,

'made in the shade',

basically comes down to
location, location, location!

Thanks for visiting,
and happy weekend!

Scents for the Senses

Waking up to a sunny and warm sun room this morning,
was soothing and restful, after two tiring days of non-stop
preparations for a luncheon the day before.

As an added bonus, the little bouquet of narcissus,
a sweet gift from one of the farmers we buy our produce from,
filled the room with a fresh and subtle fragrance.

These petite and pretty flowers can be found growing
in patches, in the hilly fields and mountains of Crete,
 during the cooler, winter months.

It's the season for citrus, too! These particular oranges went directly from my aunt's tree to my table! Along with the lemons and limes,
they are juicy and boast a most beautiful perfume.

Prince Richard, taking advantage of the sunny rays, after four grey and gloomy days of rain, sits appreciatively, while the almond blossoms in the background twinkle like pink, silky snowflakes in the sunlight,
a whiff of their allure, intriguing to both
wandering passersby and admiring locals.

As I sat quietly, indulging in the simple luxuries that surrounded me, a floating essence of coffee and hazelnut sailed in from the kitchen. Although familiar, this infusion never fails to surprise me, with its rich, delicious flavour and aromatic air. After a few sips, I retreated back to the sun room, the perfect place to daydream,
amid the cheery wildflowers and through the java steam.

Wishing you a beautiful week ahead!
Thanks for visiting!

Prince Richard, the Cat: Public Relations Expert

Is this not one of the most adorable creatures you've ever seen?
Really, look at that little face, how cute is this cat?!

Meet Prince Richard, the reigning royalty of Poppy View.
PR, these are my sweet friends from afar, say 'hello', will you?

Some of you may have seen PR in previous posts, as he is
somewhat of a poser and loves having his picture taken.

PR even had me commission a cyber artiste by the name of 'Fotor, the Fabulous', to paint his portrait, from a photo I had taken of him in the fall. PR wanted them framed side by side! Supposedly, two of him
are better than one. ..The nerve.

Can you believe that he even went so far as to compare himself to one of the most handsome men in the world? Before scrolling down, any guesses to who the 'lucky', good looking gentleman might be?

Now tell me, honestly, do you see it? PR claims that both he and Brad have the same strawberry blonde locks, cute as a button nose, and sweet twinkle in their eyes, not to mention the scruffiness of that very foxy 5 o'clock shadow, and less appealing (to me), goatee,
all topped off by that smooth, irresistible charisma...Ahem...
'Of course.', I say sarcastically, nodding my head in
pseudo agreement, at this most absurd of notions.

So, does he have a point or is this cat just crazy conceited and incredibly narcissistic? Is he indeed, the Brad Pitt of tomcats,
the king of cool that makes queens drool, and meow and purr,
at the sight of his shiny fur, even from a distance?

I know one thing. For someone who's highly allergic to these feline souls, thus, never having lived with cats or dogs before in my life, this friendly little fella has grown on me, and although he cannot reside in our home for the reason mentioned, he does have a warm and cozy, permanent place in my heart, where he's always welcome.

Well, I'm off to pamper my Prince!

I'm curious, does your pet propose such preposterous ideas, too?

Thanks for visiting!
