It is raining outside my door.
A downpour of pellets
pierce and poke
coppery vines,
like an old, itchy cloak!Diagonally, the droplets dive
onto thirsty fields,
and 'expectant' groves, as boughs bearing
gifts of citrus and olives
drink, rest, and grow,
before the upcoming
first fall of snow.
In seconds,
sculpted black balconies
are squeaky clean;
their engraved, tangled vines
buffed to a sheen.
Geraniums, splattered and splashed,
petals of red, pushed, shoved and lashed,
struggle against the rain's beating hand,
prevailing over its force, in the end.
Thanks for visiting!
This morning,
December rain
knocked on my door,
and tapping the doorbell,
it begged and implored
for my undivided attention.
So, I listened: all morning,
and into the eve,
until, tired and drained,
the rain took its leave.

ReplyDeleteThe photos are gorgeous, but your words really make them come to life!
Beautiful photos and words, as usual, Poppy. xx
ReplyDeleteI know you realize how fortunate you are to live in such a beautiful place, but I guess I just feel like I have to remind you time and again. Bear with me ;)
ReplyDeleteRain is rare where I live, so I really enjoy it when it happens. I love your rainy photos, I really get a feel for what it looks like when it's raining there.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is that your view is stunning even during December rain :-)xoxo
ReplyDelete"All sunshine makes a desert."end quote
ReplyDeleteYou make a rainy day sound like a paradise.
What is the average temperature there this time of year?
Lovely quote, Lucy!
ReplyDeleteThe average temperature for the month of December is between a high of 15°C - 17°C, and a low of 9°C. It can get a little blustery, which adds to the drama!

We are fortunate that your eyes and ears are so attuned to the gifts of nature that many of us take for granted. You have the soul of an artist, Poppy, and the gift to be able to pen what you see in such natural poetry that seems to spring from you as easily as I make out a grocery list.
ReplyDeleteThank you for being our eyes and ears to the beauty that you see simply by standing at your window.
So beautiful. I so enjoy your photos and poetry. Thanks for sharing it with us. Even the December rain is beautiful there as it soaks everything. Hugs, Pamela
ReplyDeletePoppy,
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely, creative and inspirational soul you are-always such an enriching and uplifting experience I receive when I visit you-thank you for sharing your gift with us!

Just beautiful Poppy and I enjoyed your poetic experience with the cleansing and thirst quenching rain. I always enjoy your beautiful photos.
ReplyDelete(My computer/blog is not working. I'm trying not to miss anything!)
Poppy, it's always such a treat to visit your blog. Love your poetry and photographs..
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying the change of seasons through your lens and poetry, Poppy! I love having a little peek into where you live. It is so beautiful even in rain. It must be something to be surrounded by all that natural beauty, and the way you capture it, it's clear that you never take it for granted. Are those citrus and olive trees yours? Happy December to you, Poppy!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Poppy! December certainly made an entrance in your neighbourhood. Over here December brought a hard freeze. Brrrrrrr
ReplyDeleteLovely poetry to go along with your rainy day. We normally have rain in the Pacific NW this time of year, but it has stayed unusually dry so far. Thanks for sharing your pretty images!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful view you have. Today it is getting up to 60 and on a couple of days down to the 20s with snow.
ReplyDeleteI could easily spend the whole day listening and watching the rain, even better lying down under a tin roof with my eyes closed just savouring that tinkling sound. So relaxing, so soothing. But in your case, you have that beautiful view to feast your eyes with.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week my friend.
Your poetry is beautiful and so are your photos! You have a beautiful view from your balcony.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Wednesday!
Do you get snow there?
ReplyDeleteHi Ruth,
DeleteYes, here in the village we're higher up than in the city, and we do get two or three snowfalls in the winter. The last time it snowed in the city, if I remember correctly, was in February 2008!

What a surprise! I didn't expect it to snow there.
DeleteAs always, your photos are wonderful, Poppy. We are getting our first snow storm of the season today. I'll gladly take your rain! Thank you for coming by my HOME today and enjoy the rest of your week.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
One of my favourite views during some of my travels has been the sight of wondrous olive groves.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful views you have!! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteI wish December at my door was as beautiful as yours! I was showing my husband your photos tonight...had to share them, they're so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWe're having our fair share of rain here too, as well as a lot of wind, and amazingly I also still have some geraniums in flower !
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your beautiful view with us and love how you express your feelings about it.
ReplyDeleteHappy December ...

ReplyDeleteI didn't know that you lived right by a vineyard?! That is so cool! Thank you so much for sharing at
ReplyDeleteFresh-Cut Friday! I'm so glad you did! :)

Poppy, I agree your words have the photos coming alive. You have a beautiful scene out your window. We had about 7inches of snow today, I wish I could share. Lovely images, have a happy week!
ReplyDeleteYou captured the rain storm so beautifully. I hope you will show the snow sometime!
ReplyDeleteYou make a rainy day sound so enticing Poppy. I like the gate and the view beyond.
ReplyDeleteEven the rain can't dampen the beauty of your region. The gate stands out so well against the landscape. The pruned vines with their dark trunks look lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful Poppy - everything looks pristine and fresh!
ReplyDeleteLove your accompanying poems - a lovely touch!

Poppy, your garden is so pretty! I've always wanted to vacation in Greece, and I'm so envious that you get to live there.
ReplyDeleteHello, Poppy! Your scenery is so pretty. I also enjoyed your home tour! I wanted to stop in and see what you've been up to for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI'm linking from Fresh Cut Friday (I was late to the party)!
