Yesterday morning, after three gruelling rounds,
I managed to single-handedly defeat
my two daring opponents, dust and dirt,
in yet another weekly boxing victory.
I rewarded myself with a cup of strong,
Greek coffee, the healthy heavyweight of brews!
Reaching for my daily dose of caffeine,
I noticed that a sketchy scene was stamped on
my cup, from the froth that forms upon steaming.
What, pray tell, does this look like to you?
Maybe something like the above?
Now, I may be bouncing off the walls, just
a teeny bit, (yes, from that java hit) -
even so, battling dust and dirt,
can drive the best of domestic athletes
even so, battling dust and dirt,
can drive the best of domestic athletes
briefly bonkers, but, I am not too dizzy
to recognize a tree when I see one,
whether it's perched on a mountain top,
or carved out on crockery!
A tree is a tree, don't you agree?
A tree is a tree, don't you agree?
Some of you may be wondering,
'Why all the fuss?'.
Well, you see, here in Greece,
the foamy debris, from your morning coffee
reads like a mini marquee of your future!
Thus,
My single, lush, leafy tree
symbolizes a content family,
(extended, included).
And for that,
I sincerely am grateful.
Thanks for visiting!

So neat that you noticed something like that, Poppy. :)
ReplyDeleteI love someone with vision!!

Ah, boxing certainly caught my eye! There is something most of us are pretty adept at, I just never thought about it in that perspective! Who knew?!
ReplyDeleteI only knew of tea leaves reading, I am learning again! I'll check my cuppa next time!
P.S. Is that third photo of the view from home? Splendid!
First of all I like your very Canadian looking mug. lol And I did notice the stain in it and thought it looked like a cedar tree before you even discussed it. Pretty neat I think.
ReplyDeletei didn't know it.
ReplyDeletewhat an absolutely lovely thought!
the picture looking out across the land is amazing. a living quilt!!! xo
and p.s.
i find it very hard to believe there is that much dust and dirt in your beautiful home. LOLOL.
Hi Tammy,
DeleteIn truth, my home doesn't get that dusty or dirty, as it's only my husband and myself, so traffic is minimal. BUT, it's the ceramic tiles that border the house, that are especially muddy at this time of year, with the rainy weather and frequent south winds, that deliver red sand from North Africa straight to my door!

Little did I know that a coffee cup could hold a good omen as well as a tasty blend. I like the way you think, Poppy.

You have such an eye for these things and I, for one, appreciate it a lot. :) I really enjoyed seeing some Greek food items in that first photo; I've got a thing for looking at foreign groceries, I find them fascinating.
ReplyDeleteWell, I have heard of reading tea leaves, but never coffee smudges! I am glad that your morning brew held a nice fortune! It sounds like a fun way to start the day! I usually drink plain hot water in the morning, it's pretty boring. I never see anything in my cup, except the bottom! ;)
ReplyDeleteWhy not a tree? It seems like a very good omen - and I love that tradition in a coffee cup.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting and it definitely looks like a tree. I'm always seeing things in the clouds. I'll have to pay more attention to my coffee! Sweet hugs!
ReplyDeleteA tree is a tree indeed! How cool you saw it in your cup!! And I hear you about boxing dirt and dust - except it seems to be winning in my home. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI definitely saw the tree, even before you said it. I guess this is the Greek version of reading tea leaves? Whatever, I am glad that it reveals a content family. I'll be paying more attention to my coffee cup from now on!
ReplyDeletewell aren't you blessed! to receive that on top of a clean house too!
ReplyDeleteI always love to visit you Poppy! Today was no exception!
ReplyDeletexo Kris
What I see is absolute breathtaking beauty - I didn't even notice the tree till you mentioned it LMHO
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Poppy!
Much love,
Moi
Well that was a funny reading of one's own coffee mug!But it does look like a tree!AriadnefromGreece1
ReplyDeleteBlessings to seeing the tree in cup of Joe ....what a wonderful start of the day clean floor, dustless home and a tree in your cup! To your contented family have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteA wonderful omen!! I did see the tree right away! There are signs everywhere if one just looks, even in your coffee cup! Love your view. You live in a very beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteLOL now this one just cracked me up...next time I battle the dog hair ( PLUS the dirt etc ) I shall think of you and boxing :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks more like a bud of a weed to me but it is all in the eyes of he beholder. A clean house makes one feel better. Too bad it does not stay that way.
ReplyDeleteI love your whimsey and magical way of blogging! So cute. So different. So.... Fun!
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh, in Greece, you read the foamy debris, from your morning coffee , kind of like reading tea leaves. Never heard of that!
Mmmmm, I looked. It won't work for me. I don't add milk to my decaf. Because I'd really love, love, love to add Cream. But am Lactose Intolerant. -pout-
Oh well, I'm sure there are many of your readers, who will be able to add this, to their morning routine. :-)
Tessa~
Very cute post..Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteΈνα φλιτζάνι καφές και μια πανέμορφη θέα μετά από τόση κούραση:υπάρχει κάτι καλύτερο;
ReplyDeleteHa, I had to laugh at the cup/ I wondered what was Greek about it ;-). So you should tell us how you go about making Greek coffee!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
DeletePlease see my post on Greek Coffee and click on the links at the bottom for directions on how to prepare it! Have fun!

Oh, What is so funny is this is the way I have been doing my coffee for about a month. I boil it. I found an old 1912 recipe book and they explained how to do coffee this way. The only difference is I do not have the finely ground beans. I guess I should try it with the more finely ground kind. I may try it tomorrow with the fine grind. Interesting.
DeletePoppy,
ReplyDeleteYou had me with boxing-I thought wow what is this woman up to now? I actually had a visual of you boxing-you could do it you know!
Thank you for the Sunday smiles!!
xoxo-

Ah boxing, something I should be practicing more of lately. I like the symbolism of the tree, a great find in your coffee cup! Poppy, enjoy your week ahead!
ReplyDeleteI need to be tackling dirt and dust, but I am playing in my creative space and reading favorite people.
ReplyDeleteI love the symbolism of your foam.
Beautiful scenery!!!!
ReplyDeletePoppy, you are simply amazing! What a treat to visit you via the blogosphere!
ReplyDeleteHow neat to have meanings of form in your coffee. I cant get ahead of the dirt here from the Santa Ana winds we have been having. Never ending ..... I love a good cup of coffee - love the Starbucks French Roast and have about 3 cups in the morning to get me jump started.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your posts so much Poppy. Have a terrific week.
Mary
Initially I was thinking a leaf!!! But I can see the Cedar now - I'm just a bit slow!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteIt's made a great mosaic Poppy.
WOW I love that panorama of the countryside - making a tapestry of the orchards and vineyards - gorgeous.
Hugs

Oh, I don't get foam from my Keurig! I love the tree and now you have a record of this forever. What shall I use? Coffee stains on my napkin/coaster? I'm going to keep an eye out!
ReplyDeleteWorks for me! I'm going to have to start reading my latte foam! Your countryside is so beautiful... I'd be content!
ReplyDeleteMy Grandmother used to amuse my Mom and me with a tea cup reading. She could see all kinds of interesting things in your tea leaves. Valerie
ReplyDeleteLove your tree! That drink should have been strong enough to clean your whole house!! Lol
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Gert
So many people would not have given that 'tree' a second look or thought, and surely those individuals would never be able to compose such inventive and witty posts. You have a wonderful imagination Poppy! I love your outlook on life.
ReplyDeleteAs for Greek coffee...judging from the color, it looks like it would put hair on one's chest, so I will graciously say no thank, you. I've got enough of that without any help tyvm ;).
I'm sure you do have a very happy family, Poppy!!
ReplyDeleteAww.... what a wonderful thing! Who could want more than a contented family. It is definitely a tree. Such a wonderful sign.
ReplyDeletePatty at Home and Lifestyle Design
Interesting--at first I thought it was actually a decoration on the mug as some have a little design inside. And the view is so gorgeous. What a beautiful place you live in!
ReplyDeletekind of like reading tea leaves. I love a nice clean house. It makes me feel good
ReplyDeleteI love how your coffee left you a very cool design, which is really a message! Now why hasn't my coffee done that?! Maybe I'll have to look more clearly tomorrow morning. lol
ReplyDeleteYES! I saw it as a tree when I first started studying it! I love things like this. Recently, we had a cross mysteriously appear on our counter...I think it was from some water seeping through a pair of my husband's pliers we had laid on the counter...maybe they were a bit rusty? I wrote a post about it and included pictures called "The Precious Cross", in case you want to see the neat picture that appeared. Then the other day, I opened a bag of potatoes and found that almost the entire bag was made up of heart-shaped potatoes!!! I had never seen anything like it in my life. Again, I wrote a blog about it with pictures called "Meatloaf and Ten Pounds of Love", in case you want to see it. I think the tree in your mug was something special! I so enjoy your blog. :) Hugs from America, Cheryl
ReplyDeletePoppy, you are so endearing and yes, right away, I saw and thought tree ;). So what do I win, ha ha ha I want one, no, I want a bunch of those are they Cypress trees. Wonder how well they would grown in zone 6 of USA. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteWhatever it might be, I hope you enjoyed your well deserved cup of coffee. As for the dirt and dust, I keep putting it off for another day and find much more fun things to do - like catching up on blogging!
ReplyDeleteThat so awesome, Poppy! I'd love some strong, Greek coffee :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing at Brag About It Link Party on VMG206 this week!
~ Megin of VMG206
You have such a fun, creative and inspiring view on life! I definitely see the tree!
ReplyDeleteIs this like reading tea leaves?
ReplyDeleteWhatever, I'm glad you have a content family!
I wish I felt inspired to do cleaning as you have.
I was thinking of reading tea leaves too!
ReplyDeleteSherry
I see a tree as well! Thank you for sharing this at the Make it Pretty Monday party at The Dedicated House! Hope to see your prettiness again on Monday at the bash! Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse
ReplyDeleteThat somehow brings comfort for you and the family. Does it apply to tea leaves too?
ReplyDeleteGoodluck in planting the frangipani Poppy,Hope my advice made sense.
Enjoy the rest of your week my friend.
Blessings,
Aida
I love this post! I especially love your bit about "domestic athletes". I prefer domestic goddess, but you are so right about your foes...dust and dirt! And what a spectacular view you have! Thank you for sharing! Aloha from cold and frigid New York.
ReplyDeleteA reward from the gods for your brave battle fought & won. I think that little foamy silhouette deserves printing out and framing. Now I'm wondering if you washed the cup?! The view of the actual tree looking into the valley is stunning! Takes my breath away even through a photograph. Is that the view that won your heart over to move to Crete? You are one lucky girl Poppy! Wendy xox
ReplyDeleteI see a tree, but I have had trees on my mind lately. I enjoy your photos - it is like a mini virtual vacation.
ReplyDeleteM~
I like this tradition Poppy and I'd like some of that strong Greek coffee! As always, beautiful photos:) I hope you are having a lovely week! xxleslie
ReplyDeleteI love the idea that the foamy debris means something. I'm going to look at my coffee cups differently in the future, though I might have to come to you for a reading !
ReplyDeleteI think it a great sign. It reminds my of my great grandma, she would read tea leaves in our cups. :-) Have an awesome day.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Wanda Ann @ Memories by the Mile
I love how you described your 'battle with dirt and dust!' It is a battle we must conquer and caffeine is a marvelous treat - wonderful sign for you in your coffee mug! I do appreciate you sharing with A Return to Loveliness,
ReplyDeleteKathy
