A beautiful butterfly and a bumble bee. Can you spot a third traveller? I believe it's a honey bee. |
Hi everyone, I've missed you!
Well, it's been about two weeks since my last post. Like the busy bees and social butterflies in my Cretan garden, indulging in the generous gifts of spring, I, too, had the pleasure of spending amazing quality and quantity time with my daughter, my family and good friends, across the pond, back home, in Toronto.
On May 18th,
we celebrated Liberty's 25th birthday.
It's no coincidence that I chose to bring
my second 'baby' into the world on that
special day, twenty-three years later -
Poppy View is two!
We spent the first part of the day sightseeing in
the pretty town of Cambridge, Ontario, a town
I had always wanted to visit for its scenic beauty.
More about that in a future post.
I had always wanted to visit for its scenic beauty.
More about that in a future post.
Last Saturday, upon my arrival back
to the island, I was greeted by our
gorgeous jasmine, and I was surprised
to see how much it had flourished.
Its sweet aroma 'simmers' in the kitchen
and floats into our bedroom at night.
Equally delightful were the flowering
pomegranates. Their solid orange, bold
and bright, against the sky's powdery blue,
was like a burst of energy -
something I definitely needed in order
to deal with the overgrown and ungroomed
geraniums that border the patio.
Frazzled myself, from the long flight,
and a good jolt of jet lag, I waited for the
caffeine to kick in, and after a little TLC,
caffeine to kick in, and after a little TLC,
I'd say they now look petal pageant pretty,
wouldn't you?
And speaking of coffee, PR was on the prowl! My iced cappuccino must have looked quite alluring after another one of his long, lazy naps in the sun. Two seconds after I snapped this photo, he seemed to be sipping from that straw! Now tell me, isn't he a naughty little feline, trying to steal his mommy's frothy frap?!
But who can stay mad at that cat?
He's just too darned cute! (And he knows it!)
So, to new beginnings, dewy spring mornings,
and a budding summer, just around the corner!
From my garden, where butterflies
and bees are bustling among the blooms,
I bid you goodbye, until next time!
Thanks for visiting!
xo

I was recently thinking of you and all of the gorgeous geraniums on your patio. I was thinking I should add some to my back deck. Your jasmine is amazing and I can just imagine how fragrant it must be. I have some lavender and it is heavenly as it mingles with the fresh air. I also love the crisp white paint of your home - it really pops in the jasmine photo. So glad all is well and that you were able to celebrate your daughter's birthday. Take care ~Stacy
ReplyDeleteFamily is everything, isn't it? I so enjoyed your pictures! Birthday wishes in order!! :)

ReplyDeleteHello Poppy,
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to spend time with your family. Your photograph captures such a happy group it must have been a hectic time catching up with everyone's news but great fun! It cannot be easy being separated by such a great physical distance but it must be amazing when you all do gather up in the same room!
And what beauties greeted you back home. We tried without any success to grow a Pomegranate in England. How foolish as it was never hot enough. Yours looks totally fabulous!
What a lovely family photo! Your daughter is pretty. You must have mixed emotions returning to you beautiful Crete. The jasmine looks stunning where it has flowered on your home. x

Piękne wszystkie cztery dziewczyny jak te kwiaty wiosny i lata:))
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, welcome home Poppy, we adore you!!! Oh what gorgeous, healthy, and stunning flowers awaited your return. The fragrance coming in your window, must be absolutely heavenly. I have enjoyed your Toronto visit shares and I know you must have had very mixed emotions upon leaving family and yet crossing over the big pond is just a ticket away. Your kit-cat can sip through that straw any time, what a love bug he is. Always such a treat to hear from you~
ReplyDeleteA belated Happy B'Day to Liberty!
ReplyDeleteShe is a beautiful lady.
Oh, I bet it's good to be home, Poppy.
I love to visit those that I love and miss, but there is really no place like home!
Sounds like you had an utterly wonderful time in Toronto! Glad you are back safe and sound in Crete. Look forward to you bringing me reminders of its beauty on a regular basis. Take care - xx J.
ReplyDeleteHi Poppy! Nice to see you again. Happy birthday to your daughter as well as your blog! Everything back home is looking lovely and ready for summer. Welcome back. :)
ReplyDeleteI know it's always hard to leave our real home and travel back to where we've made a new home, but how beautiful yours is Poppy! I can see the flowers waited to burst open to welcome you back, along with kitty. Your view is so scenic - your jasmine looks just like mine and yes, the fragrance is unbelievable, especially in the cooler evenings.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing your Toronto family - such beautiful women!
Hugs - Mary
Happy Birthday to Liberty! And what a wonderful name you chose for her. I'm so happy you were able to spend time with your family, you and your sister look very much alike.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty blooms to come home to! I am thinking I may try to grow jasmine on an old trellis I have, it's so pretty!
Very pretty kitty! Thank you so much for your visit today!

You are back on your beautiful island after your visit back home already! Wow, those weeks sure went by fast as I'm sure you noticed too. What a great photo of your family women. There certainly is a resemblance there! :) Your geraniums and jasmine are gorgeous. Have a lovely weekend coming up. Hugs. Pam
ReplyDeleteHello, Poppy! I know you had a wonderful time on this continent but how good it must have felt to get back to your beautiful home and gardens! The before and after of the geraniums is amazing...they are such a gorgeous color! And a question: Do you actually grow your own pomegranates?? What a beautiful bloom! Thanks for catching us up!
ReplyDeleteHi Debby,
DeleteThanks for stopping by! Yes, the pomegranate tree is ours. The fruit is ripe and ready to be eaten around mid October, and let me tell you, it is deliciously sweet!
Have a lovely weekend!

Welcome back, Poppy! I am sure you miss your daughter, mom, and sister terribly. I love the photo of the four of you - all such beautiful women. You and your sister look so much alike! You must be terribly jet-lagged, too. What beautiful sites to greet you when you got back home though...all those blooming flowers and PR himself! He is such a handsome kitty. :-)
ReplyDeleteA beautiful welcome for sure! It's so difficult to live in two parts of the world, kind of bittersweet. This is how I often feel about it. We soon have our trip home, and I truly can't wait. I haven't been for five years, so it's time.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos of your jasmine and the pomegranate. Good job on the geraniums, they look so pretty now! I simply love the view from your garden.
Poppy, your posts are so pretty and fun and uplifting! Congratulations on your blogiversary! So glad you were able to be with your daughter on her birthday. You and your family are beautiful! Thanks for the thought-provoking comment on my blog: I've left a lengthy response (practically a post in itself!) back on my blog. Wishing you all that is good, Bess
ReplyDeleteHome is where the heart is, and I guess yours is in two different places. I hope the beauty of your home on Crete (and an adorable caffeine drinking cat) helps to lift your spirits after leaving so many loved ones behind.
ReplyDeleteSweet Poppy: Hope I didn't seem like I was lecturing you. I just got caught up in a topic that I'm passionate about. I probably should have saved a lot of my comment for a post in general. Sincerely hope I didn't offend. Blessings, Bess
ReplyDeleteDearest Bess,
DeleteNot at all! Firstly, your enthusiasm for the topic simply shone through, and secondly, I only saw your reply now, since I didn't have a chance to be online after I visited!
Poppy:))
Clearly, we have all missed you, but I think I speak for everyone when I say we are so happy your absence was due to a long awaited visit with your beautiful family. And speaking of beautiful, you and your sister look like twins!
ReplyDeleteForgive me if I missed it, but did hubby stay behind? Who took care of PR? I bet you missed him too?!
Your garden is gorgeous, I love all of your beautiful flowers and that scenic view is to die for. So glad you had a great holiday.

I enjoyed seeing the photos of your beautiful family and that beautiful shade of geraniums. How lovely to have a jasmine on the corner of your house to fill it with fragrance. I'm wishing I had planted mine nearer the house. Instead,, the shed smells nice. :) Looking forward to seeing more of your garden.
