Fellow Dweller

When we first moved into our new home, here in the village, we quickly took notice of the quirky habits of our fellow dwellers.

In particular, we discovered that the sun, (an early riser),
likes to sit and settle on our front doorstep every morning.

It lingers there for hours, before feeling motivated to
slowly meander its way around the rest of the house.

Every day, minutes after its debut, we are gently awakened by its
soft, a.m. light. Outside, it playfully paints patterns on porcelain tiles,

while weaving through iron railings, like a restless toddler in his crib, eager to escape and explore the collection of curiosities around him.

Wherever you are, I hope that today, you, too, were roused from
a restful sleep, by the light touch of soothing sunlight on your cheek.

A big welcome to my new followers
and happy hellos to everyone!
Thanks for visiting and have a lovely week!

xo

  1. Hello Poppy,

It is so lovely to have a sun filled home. It really does lift the spirits.

The images of the sun and shadows around your house are so pretty. You do enjoy the most wonderful views of the countryside from the upper floors. It must be lovely to sit with a glass of chilled wine and watch the sun go down of an evening. Perfect!

  2. Welcome back to Sunlit Sunday, Poppy. I enjoy seeing photos of your beautiful home and this post lets me view a little of the outside. Your simile of a toddler in his crib is very apt.

I can't say I awoke to sun on my cheek, but daylight savings time came into play overnight which will allow for longer evenings to enjoy. It will be quite some time, though, before welcoming flowers are found at my door!

Before I leave, I need to scroll up again and taking another look at your incredible view.

  4. Hello there

I'm pleased to say the sun has visited us generously today too. In fact it is a beautiful spring day. I thoroughly enjoy a sun filled house with the right sort of caution of course. I am sure you know it can wreak havoc on settee covers and curtains. Nevertheless like yourself I delight in having the sun shine in and in every nook and cranny if possible! As in these gorgeous photos the sun is a great one for bring out the best in colors!

    keep well

  12. Dear Poppy I've told you again that your house and the place you live are blessed!!! I love always to see your photos and the way you describe your life! Have a very sunny week...kisses !

  13. Alas, no sun here, at all. I can see, through the skylights, that the sky is bright, but the clouds obscure the sun, and will likely do so for some time to come - that's Vancouver Island in late winter. Your sunny pictures are balm for the soul!

  16. You always surprise me with where you are going with a story. I love that! I didn't expect your "fellow dweller" to be sunlight - you got me again! The railing shadows are spectacular. Sunlight is so uplifting, isn't it? It was 50 degrees here yesterday, and I just had to sit outside for a bit to soak it in, even though there is still snow on the ground.

No sun here Dear, more rain to come albeit we are experiencing a tiny break in a rather dull pattern of rain, showers, rain, showers...and others are experiencing droughts...

  24. I can almost feel the heat from the sun shining all around your house, Poppy. It looks so warm and inviting. With the time change to Daylight Saving Time, I awoke to the dark this morning at 6:45. That is one downside of the time change but this evening will be a lot lighter to make up for it. Beautiful sunshine photos!

  32. That view from your front door to your front gate is just beautiful, well all the views actually ! The sun was here too, making it feel like the summer, but unfortunately I had to spend 10 busy hours keeping the café going, with six other staff while our customers enjoyed the outdoors and views to the sea !

  33. Yes, that is exactly how I greet almost every day here in AZ. I am a very early riser, so I am usually well into a big cup of coffee, before the sun comes knocking. Your photography is always so beautiful, Poppy!

  40. Beautiful pictures, unfortunately my bedroom is in the West end of the house and the den and guest bedroom is east. My next door neighbors ore there home down and rebuilt a two story home so I don't get the morning sun light on that side of the house. But around 9:00 a.m. is creeps into the living room and sparkles. I really don';t care for the west sunlight in my bedroom as it's so darn HOT in the summer. But it's wonderful to sit on the patio and have morning coffee and watch the birds take baths in the fountain.
Great post Poppy - we had 87 degrees today.

  41. I've darkened my windows so I can sleep a little longer these days, however when I do get up, I sit with coffee in the sun of the window and let it warm me from the outside while the inside is pleased.

I like the similarities of a child's crib and the rails. Poppy you have a lovely home and an exceptionally nice view

  46. Oh Poppy, what beauty. . .we've had rain, more rain and even MORE rain the last week which has just about drowned our spirits, but what a day brightener you provided! We're planning on looking at houses while in Greece - with an eye to the future - and I said to Joel, "I want a house just like Poppy's!" Who knows? It may just be a fantasy, but as long as I can dream, I can dream in color and sunshine!

  57. I am wondering if the light is really "soft" there? We had a brilliant sunny day here in SC today, but I would not call the light here soft. It gets pretty bright BRIGHT! if you know what I mean. I suppose the morning't light first thing --early-- would be soft.

  58. Oh my, what a beautiful view! I love light and you have it there in abundance. Wonderful scenes and photos, Poppy!

  59. Well, we are having that same visitor come this day, as the weatherman promised it would. The view from where I live, shall not appear so lovely as what you view, oh such beauty there Poppy and the colours, so bright, awaken the soul and it must just make your joy burst forward into a new day. A wonderful post as always...hugs~

  60. Poppy you have a beautiful home (but you know that). What beautiful views you have. I wouldn't be able to sleep once the sun rose up over that vista. The way the sun comes through my own house is something that I have always loved. It comes through my kitchen in the morning, and no sooner does it finally leave the kitchen, than it's swinging around to the front living room. I have sunshine pouring through my house pretty much all day (when it's not cloudy of course). I never block it out. My neighbour always pulls a big blind down over her windows to block it out, but I love it pouring through the front window even though it does fade my furniture a bit ;) It brightens my day, both literally and spiritually. The pets love basking in it too! Enjoy your day! Wendy x

  61. :D I love how you've personified the sunshine in this post. It makes me smile! What a wonderful way to wake-up every morning. Our bedroom is on the western side of our home, so we enjoy lots of afternoon sunshine in that room.
