Yesterday morning,
on the way to my house,
my aunt, also known as, 'La Contessa',
stopped to pick these delicate beauties,
stopped to pick these delicate beauties,
which were withering away,
on an overgrown shrub.
on an overgrown shrub.
Immediately immersed in water,
they absorbed its liquid magic,
and seconds later,
twinkled back to life,
like tiny shiny stars,
sparkling, in the dark,
still shuttered room.
twinkled back to life,
like tiny shiny stars,
sparkling, in the dark,
still shuttered room.
Elated from the rescue,
the Contessa and I, then sat down
to a syrupy stack of French toast;
our morning off to a sweet start,
after a little bit of drama.
Thanks for visiting
and happy weekend!

ReplyDeleteon your table.
Have a terrific weekend.

What a wonderful visit to have and the flowers let you know how much they enjoyed it too it seems.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous bouquet! May I ask what the flowers are? They look sort of like hydrangea. Sounds like a lovely morning to me. Enjoy the weekend.
ReplyDeleteWell, Pamela, it seems my hunch was right! Penelope Bianchi agrees that they are, in fact, very thirsty bougainvillea! Now, to save the shrub, after rescuing the bouquet!

Poppy
Well, I should think so! A glamourous aunt, French toast, and rejuvenated floral beauty! You do Fridays right at Poppy View! Did you save me a bite, Poppy? And hello to beautiful La Contessa!

ReplyDeleteLovely post..
Love, Mona
I love those flowers and I agree with the above poster, they look a bit like poinsettias. Your aunt looks very young and glamorous, just like yourself! What a lovely family.
ReplyDeleteThey are so VERY beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful flowers. So glad you could save them. I've never seen any like that before. They look like they might be in the hydrangea family.
ReplyDeleteCindy
How nice that your aunt came to visit! Did you stay at home or did you go out and do something? Those flowers are gorgeous...what kind are they?
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty flowers and a pretty aunt.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a splendid way to start the day: flowers, good company, and a delicious breakfast. I hope your weekend is equally delightful.

How fun it must be to have an aunt 'La Contessa', Poppy. So cool! She has a great eye for plants and foliage - I'd love to have that amazing arrangement in my own home! I hope you have an eventful weekend planned!
ReplyDeletePoppy, Your pictures are amazing! The leaves are so dramatic even without the rescue. 'La Contessa' seems like a marvelous Aunt and a great friend to share a stack of french toast with. Have a wonderful weekend..... Candy.
ReplyDeleteSuch gorgeous blooms. You have captured their beauty wonderfully. How thoughtful of your aunt to pick such pretty flowers for you.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can stop by for a visit.

Poppy I haven't seen such variety of bougainvillea( or isn't it)? How thoughtful of your Auntie ( The La Contessa). Sharing French toast with your lovely Auntie admiring a rescued bouquet sounds like a great start of the day. Thank you my friend for visiting and for your prayers.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed weekend.
Oh what gorgeous flowers and plants! I got a warm soft breeze from them!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful blooms!!!
ReplyDeletexo Kris
I am so hoping that someone went back to this bougainvillea vine and watered it! I would carry a watering can all the way from California! It needs water!
ReplyDeleteHow said if the vine that provided those beautiful vines dies from lack of water!
It can produce so many of those beautiful flowers who responded to the water in the vase!
Oh, please, save that vine!!!
Thank you!!
Penelope
sad is the word. "said" was from autocorrect! driving me nuts!! and the vine produces beautiful flowers! in the vase!!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! I love your pictures! Please save that vine's life!!!
thank you!
Penelope
(Poppy's Granny) (another Poppy across the world!!)

Hi Poppy!!! I just saw your coment over at Yvonne's so thought I would POP over to see you!!! What is this flower/shrub??? It is beautiful! I am so happy to "meet" you!!! I will be your newest follower.
ReplyDeleteI just saw on your comments that it is bougainlillea. I don't know if I can grow that here in Pa.
ReplyDeleteWow, better than jewels. Love the lace, just makes the still so classic. Reminds me, we all need to hydrate, not only with water, but with things and people who lift our spirits.
ReplyDeletexxooo
Those are bougainvillea? I'm not familiar with them. They are beautiful, Poppy! And how yummy to enjoy French toast with La Contessa :) Cheers from (cold but sunny) DC! xo Loi
ReplyDeleteThey are just lovely. What a wonderful way to start the day!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous Poppy! Blessings, Bess
ReplyDeleteNot everyone has breakfast with a contessa that has just showered her with flowers!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers. Have a wonderful week. Jen
ReplyDeleteWow! Gorgeous flowers...gorgeous pictures!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Aunt, beautiful blooms, beautiful pictures. Your blog is always so uplifting Poppy!
ReplyDeleteHi Poppy!
ReplyDeleteThose flowers are beautiful. FYI most cut flowers will pop back up when immersed in water. Hydrangeas...roses especially.
What a wonderful group of photos that show how fall has the ability to create a beautiful view of the change on plants. Your flowers are great. Enjoy the coming of Fall. Have a great week.
ReplyDeletePam
Those flowers are missing from my garden and table as Winter edges near to us. What beauties they are too. Love those colours, they would work well here. Sweet image of you as well Poppy!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Poppy I do that all the time. Especially with flowers and plants from construction sites, which, here in Vancouver, are so plentiful it isn't even funny. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are so beautiful and what a kind auntie to bring them to you and the pinks are such a happy color.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Lynnie
Poppy, those flowers are really pretty! It's a miracle what water can do, isn't it? My pot of mums out on the front steps got hit with the frost and weren't looking very well. I decided to cut some off and brought them inside and plopped them into some water. They rewarded me by springing back to life and giving me a lovely bouquet for about two weeks. Sounds like you and your aunt enjoyed a lovely day together. Thank you for joining me at my HOME and enjoy the rest of your week.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
Oh how I adore your wonderful photos of those beautiful flowers, not everyone can take those kinds of pictures, I think it just comes naturally to you...It sure sounds like you had a nice day...Love those flowers, the colors are such a wow...
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I love the casualness of the arrangement. :) The French Toast doesn't sound bad either. :)
