Have you ever spoken with the sea
on matters too foggy to foresee?
When your judgment, hazy from emotion
clouded any sighting of clear notion?
And, after friendly offerings of advice,
and couple of rolls of the 'decision' dice,
neither enticed, convinced, nor sufficed
quite like that of the ocean's?
Flowing and fluid, a miraculous, watery mass
grounding giants of stone in a vast, liquid glass,
its powers of persuasion,
and the wisdom in its waves,
a sudsy message splashed,
and on the sand engraved,
for me,
to search and ponder,
to search and ponder,
consider and decipher -
hydro hieroglyphics
of a deep, aquatic cave.
of a deep, aquatic cave.
Thanks for visiting!

I was waiting to see who the poet was that wrote that beautiful piece and find it was you! I loved it and the wonderful photographs that went along with it. I do look into the river that runs behind my house to ponder things. It seems to put things into perspective for me. Thanks for making my day!
ReplyDeleteHi Maureen,
DeleteThank you so much! It is amazing how a body of water, whatever its size, or speed of fluidity, can communicate with such clarity, in its movement; your river, my sea.

Poppy
What gorgeous photos and LOVE the poetry! You are great with both!

ReplyDeleteHi Millie,

Poppy
Your Sea is so beautiful. I remember when I was young we would go to the beach and I loved getting up early in the morning and just sitting and watching the waves come in and truly thinking how small I was in this big world. I miss those days.
ReplyDeleteHi Betty,
DeleteIt's true. The sea, being so vast and deep and endless, really does put things in perspective. Hope you get a chance to visit your childhood sea.
xo
Poppy
What a beautiful compilation of words and photographs. I love the ocean. It is so cathartic when I am feeling down and always revitalizing every time I visit. I wish I could visit our ocean more often - in fact, I am on my way this weekend! Hope you are having a lovely evening!
ReplyDeleteHi Stacy,
DeleteThank you! I am so glad you are heading toward the ocean for the weekend and a chance to feel rejuvenated and refreshed! Have a great time!

I've never searched for or found answers to my questions in the sea, but the majestic North Carolina mountains always make me feel that the answers are there, if only I listen carefully. Perhaps that Greek sea, as ancient as its beauty is, is too vast, Poppy, its hieroglyphics too murky, indecipherable.
ReplyDeleteThe answers must come, as always, from your own heart.
Hello Dewena,
DeleteI can imagine the powerful beauty of the North Carolina mountains! Whether it's the sea or the mountains we use for our inspiration towards focus and clarity, the fact remains that, we need to finely tune our listening skills, as you noted, and pick up any incoming signals of serenity, starting with the beating of our own heart.

This is beautiful Poppy and so true. The ocean is so powerful and it scares me because I know what it's capable of. There's nothing like a day by the ocean.. to offer relief or to sooth the senses. It's a wonderful place. xxL
ReplyDeleteHi Leslie,
DeleteThanks! You're absolutely right - the ocean can be frightening, and I know this from experience, as my mother, my sister and I had a very close call last year, while we were on holiday in west Crete. I thank God for our survival and sympathize with others who have had similar experiences. They were truly the scariest moments of my life.

Definitely paradise! I grew up by the Atlantic Ocean so understand the power of the sea. I do find the waters of the Great Lakes soothing too, though. ;)
ReplyDeleteHi EG CameraGirl,
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to have lived by the Atlantic! I grew up in Ontario and agree with you - the Great Lakes are quite beautiful, indeed! Lake Huron was a favourite during childhood excursions to Owen Sound and the surrounding area. A different slice of paradise from the Mediterranean.
Happy Thanksgiving weekend!
Poppy
Oh how I miss your poetic talent and expressive photographs. You are so inspiring my friend. Now I can't wait for summer to come down under.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good weekend.

Hello dear Aida,
DeleteThank you! If it's not the sea, then it's your pretty pictures of poppies and tulips, most recently that inspire me!
Hope you have a lovely weekend, too!

Hi RW and Sk,
DeleteThanks! Hope you are having a wonderful week!

Simply beautiful! There is something about the water, the sea that speaks to me. I am in love with it, but terrified of it at the same time. Maybe I was a mermaid in another life! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteHi Diane,
DeleteThank you! Yes, the sea certainly has many faces and moods. I think many people feel the same way as you do.

Poppy
Your entire blog was just lovely and beautiful. It made me thinks of past times when I have been near the ocean and heard the waves, the gulls and the soft wind blowing in my face. I live inland so I don't get to visit often but I just love the water.
ReplyDeleteHi Ruth,
DeleteThank you! You describe your times by the ocean so beautifully. It really affects so many of our senses!
xo
Poppy
Beautiful views of the ocean and water. I enjoy being near the ocean and beaches when I can although we live inland. Thanks for visiting and following me Poppy!

ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
DeleteThank you so much! Just visited you and enjoyed your post on the Hamptons, a place I've always wanted to see for its charming architecture, gorgeous gardens and beautiful seaside living!

Poppy
My dear Poppy,
ReplyDeleteI'm not religious but your poem and pictures bring to my mind a prayer made by St Francis of Assisi:
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is error, the truth;
Where there is doubt, the faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
For me the sea has always been a source of solace and comfort. Friends mean well, but the sea washes your soul, cleanses your spirit and brings you hope, imagined or real. Like the Assisi prayer, the sea offers a depth of inspiration and hope no friend can match.
It's a beautiful poem, written by a lovely person.
Mxoxoxox
My dear friend,
DeleteA wonderfully peaceful prayer, thank you so much!
