I've always been fascinated by farmhouses.
Ones scented by flowers, and splashed by the sea.
source |
In my daydreams, they are always two story structures,
source |
with sloping roofs, several windows and loads of charm.
source |
Staring off into space, I seem to visit ones that are bordered by
bundles of blushing blooms. But, there are times when I blink -
source |
and suddenly, the trees are bare, and my farmhouse
has turned to stone, surrounded only by freshly fallen snow.
source |
Just weeks before, frayed, green fields
are freckled with plump, orange pumpkins.
source |
Then, all too soon, earthy tones set in, the air begins to cool,
source |
and the farmhouse facade mirrors nature's dusty hues.
source |
BTW, all these pastoral beauties today,
source |
including the oil on canvas, above,
were 'made in Canada, eh', except the one below.
No, it's not a farmhouse, but my home away from home.
Fascinated by any of these lovelies?
Do, tell!

ReplyDeleteWhen we first came to the Americas, we tried to imagine the folks who lived in some of the abandoned farms we noticed in the countryside... Ghost towns were another fascination...Even the children got into the game as we traveled throughout the land. Amazingly some of these houses featured long lost gardens with magnificent blooms and I still remember their scent! My favourite feature however was the spacious porches, some still with a swing...
I'd quite happily take any of them!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
If I could have a farmhouse, that was near the sea too, like the first one, that would be pretty idyllic !
ReplyDeleteI would like the stone farmhouse and I would even take the snow!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice, Poppy!!
Have a lovely day my friend~
xoxo-
Jemma
I love the first photo and the one of the blue house with the lavender in front! I love farmhouses!
ReplyDeletebeautiful pictures, how wonderful to be able to go for walks in such a incredible place...thank you for sharing the photos and the great houses and landscape...
ReplyDeleteLove the farm houses especially the one by the sea. The wheat field one (I think it is wheat) reminds me of a Willa Cather story which is poetry in itself.
ReplyDeleteThese homes are so beautiful! I love the house with the lavender out front. I am so tempted to tear out my yard and install a huge bed of lavender. But my husband would flip out!!
ReplyDeleteIt's my dream to have a small beach cottage....right on the ocean! That's what I think about when I dream of a 'new' house! Sweet hugs my friend!
ReplyDeleteOh I think a farmhouse surrounded by fields of flowers would be dreamy!
ReplyDeleteA farmhouse by the sea is just exquisite! I think that would be just dreamy!
ReplyDeletethe color in ALL of these is amazingly beautiful!
ReplyDeletemine would be by the sea.
here i am in a land locked prairie. and dreaming always of the sea!
but your terrace . . . i have to say . . . OH MY!
xoxo
♥
Am I fascinated by ANY of these you ask? How about ALL of them! I too have always loved farmhouses, and we are not at a loss here for some lovely ones, although I must say yours puts ours to shame.
ReplyDeleteThese photos ooze charm and beauty in spades. Excuse me while I log off for the night and daydream...
Hello Poppy:
ReplyDeleteA wonderful evocation in words and pictures of a rural idyll. All houses continue to fascinate us - if only one could have many - and each of these looks to be highly desirable. But how to choose?
All farmhouses are fantastic because rural life is fantastic, because nature appeases us and helps us to feel happier and younger. I love the sea but your home up to the Cretan hills looks dreamy Poppy! I could spend the rest of my life there!
ReplyDeletePoppy piękne domy i pejzaże, najbardziej podoba mi się na 4 zdjęciu wśród lawendy no i oczywiście na 8 zdjęciu w łanach zbóż jest cudownie....
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to choose one ,but I like the stone house ! Lovely photos Poopy . I would like to say the meaning " the heart is where the home is " and your heart is in your Cretean home ,may be a little bit away to your hometown !Crete is a blessing island Poppy ! Have a nice week ! !
ReplyDeleteA farmhouse by the sea is the ultimate in lovely! I thought these were Greek farmhouses until I saw the one with snow. Yes, a stone farmhouse by the water would suit me very well.
ReplyDeleteI shall tell, yes fascinated and charmed by them. I must choose a favorite though and it would be the one in the snow...that would be my home, if I could dream and it could come true and then in the Spring that home would borrow from a few of the others, the fields of Lavender, my very favorite fragrance. I would love that home, but it shall remain content in my own day dreams and I shall be happy in the house I call home. Very beautiful as always dear Poppy~
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, all. I'd "take" every one of them. :-))))
ReplyDeleteGentle hugs,
Tessa~
They are all wonderful! My parents visited Toronto and Lake Louise a few years ago and think Canada is a beautiful country. xx
ReplyDeleteOh, what beauty you shared.
ReplyDeleteThe farmhouses in photos #1 and #9 actually remind me of the location of the farmhouse in Norway where my grandmother was born. Thanks for a little trip down Memory Lane with your photos.
Hi Poppy,
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful farm houses and I was surprised to see our friends' house in Orwell Cove at the beginning. We have spent many evenings there for barbeques. They have since moved into their father's home but their son lives there now in that farmhouse. It's beautiful, isn't it? Thank you for sharing and for stopping by for a visit.
Blessings,
Sandi
Good Evening Poppy, Now this is a tricky one..... because I would love to live by the sea, as I did in Cyprus, but I also would love to be surrounded by lavender. Can you imagine the smell permeating the air with so many lavender bushes in the garden.... it would be wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun choosing, but if I am honest, all the farmhouses are beautiful and I would not mind living in any of them.
Best wishes
Daphne
I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite, Poppy! These are all so beautiful! I would love to be surrounded by open fields. Or maybe the sea. Or maybe mountains! Can I have all three?!
ReplyDeleteI love your blue skies and bright flowers. That's enough to make me smile today!
XO,
Jane
Oh what a treat!!
ReplyDeleteI love them all, but I especially love the blue one. It just looks like home.
I wonder what the inside looks like.....
xo Marissa
Thank you for sharing all those Farmhouse beauties!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't pick just one.....
But having traveled much of Canada I know I'm definitely
not keen on the Prairies. Everywhere else I love!
Poppy I love all of your beautiful farmhouses!!! We have lots of them here in New Jersey too. Last summer we traveled up through Canada from Niagara Falls to Lake Heron and the farmland was simply stunning. I couldn't stop myself from snapping pictures.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing!
XO Barbara
Beautiful farm houses, beautiful scene!
ReplyDeleteOh Poppy, I would take any of those beautiful farm houses. So very pretty. To have land and see all the wonderful sky, fields, flowers - how terrific.
ReplyDeleteMary
I want to live in the third one.
ReplyDeleteWith a wind chill below zero here this morning I don't want the winter-scene one, lol...
You've got the most amazing photo's! just love it!
ReplyDeleteHi Poppy,
ReplyDeleteI'm visiting from Home Sweet Home. I like farmhouses too, the photos you pictured are just beautiful! I hope you'll stop by my blog and see my Victorian Farmhouse that I'm working on in miniature.

ReplyDeleteCindy
Well you know my love of farmhouse - we were oh so close to choosing one before this one ( wish I would have picked one of them now lol )
ReplyDeleteGorgeous images Poppy - just gorgeous ( and so happy you haven't lost your eh !!!
XOXO
I agree, there is something about farm houses that pulls me right in. I would take any of the ones you've shown, but my favorites , in order, are 6, 9 and 4. Oh, and 1. It's too hard to choose!
ReplyDeleteHello Poppy
ReplyDeleteI did think some of the farms were in Canada and how beautiful they are.
I grew up on a farm in Ireland and loved all aspects of it. Your home exudes warmth and feels very welcoming
Helen xx
Dear Poppy, I wish I live in one of these farmhouses. Did you take the photos yourself? How stunning are the views. Canada is such a beautiful country! Thank your for this beautiful post my friend.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for your birthday message. I am so touched.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Hugs,
Aida
Poppy I knew these must be in Atlantic Canada...love love it out there....although I have to say a lot of the farms remind me of what is here in Southern Ontario in Mennonite country...(without the sea)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you must be getting excited to visit TO...oh I hope you get a warm welcome!!
Oh, how I enjoyed those pictures!!!! I, too, love farmhouses, but alas, our family is still in the city........maybe someday. :) Thank you for sharing. Gentle Joy
ReplyDeleteI love farmhouses, too. There's a couple of pretty ones down a main road by my house. I especially love the big, wide front porches where there's room for rocking chairs and a little table. You can sit out there by yourself, maybe reading a book and watching the world go by, or it's a perfect spot to sit with a friend and have a girly chat.
ReplyDeleteI loved all of your photos of the farm houses Poppy, so pretty. I link them too. I hope you are having a nice weekend. Take care.
ReplyDeleteJulie
Oh love all of these Poppy! I especially love the one with all of the lavender in front of it! Gorgeous! I also loved your poem!
ReplyDeleteLovely images! I love the rock farmhouse, but they are all beautiful! Lovely writing. Thanks for sharing. Kari
ReplyDeleteThey are all beautiful, Poppy! I'd take any one of them. If I just had to choose, I suppose it would be the first one.for the view they have. Views are as important to me as the look of the house. Sorry, I haven't been by in a while, your blog disappeared from my sidebar for some strange reason. I shall fix that right now. Enjoy your day, it's snowing here.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! But red is always my favorite :)
ReplyDeleteI would be difficult and want to combine a little of each of them into one gorgeous farmhouse! I long to be back in a farmhouse and hopefully will one day. I would love your home too!
ReplyDeleteThey are all beautiful Poppy, how dreamy! Love old farmhouses, and the all stone is a favorite. Thanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY...
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy
Me too! Perhaps it's the land, the shape/size of the house - you've chosen some beautiful examples! I appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,
ReplyDeleteKathy

ReplyDeletePoppy, I just wanted to jump inside everyone of those gorgeous scenes! Wouldn't it be fun to be able to do that?! You could stay in one and then jump into another the next month! These are truly stunning farmhouses...but your cozy little abode overlooking the sea ain't too shabby...lol!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos! I agree that farmhouses are so appealing and interesting... but you have found some extra unique beauties!!! :)
ReplyDeleteAnother girl after my own heart. I'm Canadian and I too love old farmhouses. They are always so charming.
ReplyDeleteI am always in love with any farmhouse! Such nostalgic appeal to them. These are absolutely wonderful. My heart still belongs to one I lived in almost 20 years ago. Hope to live in one again some day.
ReplyDeleteI am a farmhouse fiend too Poppy! I drool as we travel along the country roads and declare each one "home".
