Buttercup Brilliance

6:45 am, Poppy View headquarters, orange skies just before sunrise.

9:09: My feline ally, Prince Richard, the cat,
misses his wake up call for the day. So predictable.

9:10: I leave him behind and head for the hills, as planned.

 You snooze, you lose.

The Bermuda buttercups had arrived for their annual visit,
and I was curious to see how they were getting on
with their hosts, the olive trees and grapevines.

9:49: Everything seemed harmoniously fine, from a distance.

10:15: A serene scene on a canvas of blue; a pretty, pastoral view.

10:34: Up close, it was evident that our generous hosts,
indeed, had made the little buttercups feel at home,

giving them plenty of space, in which to stretch and freely roam.

11:58: At my garden gate, I am greeted with a yawn,
by a lazy companion I can never count on. Shameful.

Happy first day of March!
Spring Countdown

What an amazing and wonderful sight of the Bermuda buttercups mixed with the vines. And such blue skies so early in the day. As for PR, utterly adorable.

  2. Beautiful images. I long for Spring! PR the cat is so funny, very expressive. Mind you, if I was in his position, in the sun, I don't think I'd move! : ) x

  14. I laugh to compare our views today. Most often, our colors are the same on our walks, but since Wednesday, it has been raining in our little part of the world. Much welcome rain - already 4 .5 inches when all of 2013 only brought us 3 inches. It will rain all day today and through tomorrow and we are content because the Sierras have snow and we will be enjoying that snow this week on a ski trip.

Thanks for taking me on a virtual walk this morning since we will be tied to the house for awhile.

  24. Poppy - Beautiful photos as usual. Do they buttercups just grow under the grapevines and olive trees? Do you have to walk on them to pick grapes and olives? Gorgeous scenery. And just look what Prince Richard missed out on.

  27. Hi,Poppy!
I am impressed by your fabulous views. Here in Japan, spring is coming soon but we rarely have blue sky this time of the year. You have captured beautiful moments! Your yellow cat is so sweet and looks enjoy happy time in the sunlight. Your flowers on the almond tree are pretty. They look similar to sakura in Japan we have.Your happy photos put a smile on my face.

  29. I am so looking forward to sunny spring days. I want to go out and breath fresh air and feel the warmth of the sun on my face with warm breezes to warming my heart and soul. Until then I will be content to see the buttercups bloom beneath the grape vines and the blue skies above the beautiful countryside where you live through your beautiful pictures.

  31. Claire the Foster Kitty would be envious of the sunny outdoor life that Prince Richard enjoys. Then again, I would relish a walk by some buttercups in an olive grove, Poppy. Everything must be springing up with new life there. Your home area is gorgeous.

  45. Oh Poppy, as I scrolled down through these images, I could ALMOST feel the warmth of the sun. The little kit-cat Sir Richard...what must it be like to sleep so purely and not be aware of much going on, allowing the warmth of the sun to just ease one into dreamland . I love the Olive orchard( we use a lot of olive oils and also grape seed oils her in our home ;) and those wonderful Buttercups that have slipped along their path are so pretty. I am so desiring to see any kind of colour in our area...I wonder if I could just make some Koolaid and sprinkle it on the snow, if it would freeze and be my garden for the day. Sigh ;) Happy Monday, Happy week Poppy~

  46. delightful view of your first day of March. It looks like spring is well and truly on the way. But do you have snow in Crete? I really must visit the Mediterranean one day - it is on my list! Have a wonderful week. I am joining you through Mosaic Monday.

  47. Good Afternoon Poppy, It was a joy to see the beautiful blue skies and the buttercups growing amongst your vines. Although you have a countdown to the beginning of Spring, it certainly looks like Spring has arrived in Crete already.
Prince Richard looks like he has the most wonderful life..... lazily sleeping in the warm sunshine.

  48. Prince Richard looks like a fine assistant - if you don't want anything done. LOL! The pictures are gorgeous! I am in great need of spring to arrive! There is sleet covering the grass here in Dallas, TX, however this past Saturday it was in the high 70's. Crazy weather this year.

Buttercup Baby? (probably too long ago for your youthful memory!) anyway, I am listening to it right now because of this post!!

  55. Your photos are always so beautiful and every backdrop is superb! I don't think we gave buttercups here in the desert area (maybe in other parts of AZ), but they were prolific where we lived in Oregon. It looks like Prince Richard doesn't really care what you think of him, as long as he can bask in that gorgeous sunshine.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ah, this was cute! Thanks for the smile! It seems Prince Richard has been in company with our little Pug who is always napping and yawning at any hour of the day. Bad company does corrupt good animals... ;)

  59. Your cat is beautiful. And, yes, predictable. Ours is so lazy in the chilly, damp weather we're having that she will hiss if she thinks we're going to put her outside. :-)

Those are real buttercups. It was funny that when we lived in Tennessee a lot of people there called daffodils "buttercups". I never could quite get used to it. :-)
