Siesta Showdown

The vineyard in front of our home

2pm. Siesta hour. The wrong time to be
wandering the fields, warn the locals, as
they flee the heavy heat of the midday sun.

 A green ghost town,
(save for a camera crazed Canadian
rambling around),

where the grape

and the olive

battle it out, in a showdown of fruit fire;
boughs shooting still bitter bullets,
vines ablaze with cannonballs of juice.

The Chapel of St. Irene, sits on the property next to ours.

 Needless to say,
both pray, to keep the rain at bay;

the grape, for fear of drowning its flavour away,

 while waterlogged olives
cringe at the thought of decay!

 In the end,
better to be friends than foes,
they thought, so they joined forces,
 and together, they faithfully
fought the watery war against
decomposition and rot,
and only then, did they, too,
 surrender to siesta.

Thanks for visiting and
have a wonderful week!

Fellow Dweller

When we first moved into our new home, here in the village, we quickly took notice of the quirky habits of our fellow dwellers.

In particular, we discovered that the sun, (an early riser),
likes to sit and settle on our front doorstep every morning.

It lingers there for hours, before feeling motivated to
slowly meander its way around the rest of the house.

Every day, minutes after its debut, we are gently awakened by its
soft, a.m. light. Outside, it playfully paints patterns on porcelain tiles,

while weaving through iron railings, like a restless toddler in his crib, eager to escape and explore the collection of curiosities around him.

Wherever you are, I hope that today, you, too, were roused from
a restful sleep, by the light touch of soothing sunlight on your cheek.

A big welcome to my new followers
and happy hellos to everyone!
Thanks for visiting and have a lovely week!

Forever Fall

Note: This post was first published last year.

Are you anxiously anticipating autumn?
Do you wake up craving cooler temps,
crisp, brisk mornings, coppery, collage sidewalks
 and layers of cozy clothing?

You do know that autumn officially arrives in ten days?
Can you contain yourself?

Many bloggers have been busily scurrying about
  baking, decorating, prepping, and shopping.

Every preventative measure has been taken
to avoid being left with passed over scraps
 in the seasonal aisle.

Why am I so calm and composed?
Because I have fall at my footsteps every day!

When I finally got to have some fun and decorate
after ten years of 'serious' building,

I knew I wanted a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Thus, every room is permanently pigmented
in autumn ambiance.

 The hues may be different,
but each room reflects a coziness
that we connect with this season.

The blues are cool and the golds are warm,
like tarnished leaves against paler skies.

The blog, of course, is an extension of my home,
like an addition or guest house, (for all of you lovelies!),
and as such, it needed to fit in;
thus, the respective banner!

And speaking of lovelies,
my sweet friend, Maria, of scrapmaria.blogspot.com,
sent me this beautiful, handmade pendent
for my name day!

She is so talented!
Thank you, Maria, I love it!
It's so me!

And thank you to all my readers
for visiting me today;
I appreciate your 'presence', too!

The countdown is on.
Stand by...
and thanks for visiting!

A Cousin's Embrace

A cousin from Canada came and went,
leaving behind new memories
of a few days well spent.

Stories, exclusive to us,
revived from the murk of shade
were retold and relived -
and protected from fade.

Waking to the silence of stillness,
after days of boisterous cheer,
her absence was a void in my heart,
and loud in my ear.

Getting on with domestics,
proved a distraction ideal,

to preoccupy my mind
and help an aching heart heal.

Until we meet again, her sweet gift,
brought to colour my space,
brightens my mood
like a pink rainbow embrace.

Thanks for visiting!

DEBUTS AND DEJA VUS

Hello everyone,

Today, I'm contributing over at Brenda's
Hope you'll drop by and visit!

The following was first published as the first contributing post I wrote for  Cozy Little House, in May of this year, to celebrate Poppy View's one year anniversary.  Have a look!

One cold winter afternoon, while wandering around the thickly populated blogosphere, I suddenly stopped in my tracks, as I found myself standing in front of the the cutest, most colourful house I had ever seen in the land!
cozylittehouse.com
I immediately felt at home, identifying with its cottage-y, farmhouse feel, where cows and chickens lived harmoniously among primary pigments printed on crockery, quilts, artwork, and fabrics. Polka dots, checks, stripes and floral patterns featuring red, my favourite colour, had me doing double takes; this could easily be my house, I gasped!
My red rooms
I needed to find out who was behind all this serious fun and flair! First, I went into marathon mode and read her beautiful blog from first post to last! Then, I visited every day and felt like I was getting to know this very honest and humble lady.
From helpful tips on bettering one's blog, to eloquent excerpts on personal experiences, I was so intrigued that I wanted to tell her how her simple and whimsical style had made me smile, (after collecting my jaw from the floor, that is!).
So, I wrote Miss Brenda a long letter, telling her just that: how much I had admired her cozy little house, and if she had the time, I would love for her to visit mine - a new blog, barely a week old!
Welcome!
Of course, being the sweet soul that she is, Brenda wrote back right away, boosting my confidence, cheering me on and giving me valuable advice. She extended her hospitality by introducing Poppy View to her many devoted readers, on her very unique Welcome Wagon Fridays, a kind and generous invitation.
Poppy View debuted on my daughter's birthday, May 18th, 2012. A few days ago, Brenda asked me if I would consider becoming a regular contributor here, at this warm and wonderful space. Needless to say, I was ecstatic! And so, today, I thought it most fitting to celebrate Poppy View's one year anniversary, here at Brenda's cozy little house, which for me, has been more of a home, as its gracious hostess always takes care of her guests, in the most attentive and delightful ways.
In addition, I'd like to thank everyone who visits Poppy View. Reading, commenting and simply saying, 'hello', are treasured gifts and your presence inspires me to joyfully communicate to you, colourful creations, in pictures and words, from my own little house, in the hilly fields, of the pretty, Cretan countryside.
