Floral Flashbacks

High Park, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Autumn 2015

In Toronto's High Park, autumn flowers and fall foliage
still exist in happy harmony, but very soon, most
leaves and all petals will take their final bow, and the
landscape that is their stage, will have its final curtain call.

Special Delivery

And so, I took a trip down memory lane, and along the
way, gathered a bunch of bouquets to remind me of all
those times when these dainty, floral darlings delighted
me with their vast and various cast of characters!

A Mother's Day Bouquet

This bright Mother's Day bouquet I chose for
my mom last year beautifully complements the
crockery behind it, don't you think?

Forever Fall

A close up of one of my favourite decorative
plates, which has repeatedly presented me with
delicious servings of whimsy when I crave it,
which in my case, as you know, is constant!

Pretty petals in paintings are precious, and even
though I cannot breathe in their fragrance, they
are always a breath of fresh air for the soul.

A Rooftop Refreshment

Fresh fruit and flowers from my  summer garden
on the island whet my appetite for al fresco fun.

Scents for the Senses

The sweet scent of narcissus in this early spring
posy
also transports me to the hilly meadows of Crete,
where these wild flowers cheerfully dot the
countryside for weeks with their happy faces.

A bunch of silk blooms warms up stone and stucco
walls, as its reflection softly glows in the mirror.

Open shelving in the breakfast room back home
makes space for seasonal, fresh flowers, in
addition to the permanent pretties on plates.

A Mother's Day Bouquet

Ultimately, having access to flowers, whatever the season, calms me, so, when I came across this flower delivery website, I was pleased
to discover that local florists can provide stunning bouquets,
(and bundles of inspiration), to you and yours, all year round.

Thanks for accompanying me on my
floral flashback, in the middle of fall!

Playful April Petals

The Venetian Walls, built in the 15th century, surround the city of Heraklion, and are the largest fortified structure in the Mediterranean. I have strolled their flowery paths many times, pausing to enjoy the panoramic views. On this particular afternoon, while waiting for my bus back to the village, I studied and admired their own beauty,
which is equally impressive, from ground level.

Entering the village, crowds of Cretan hollyhocks,
daisies and buttercups charmingly line the main road,
greeting visitors with their sweet hospitality upon arrival.

The tiny, white church, nestled among olive trees and
evergreens, is a picture of bucolic calm, and beckons
one to sift through the thick vegetation, to come and
sit quietly amid this lush, hilly haven above the sea.

Here it is again, as seen from our property, now bordered
by bouquets of laurel, and aromatic, flowering herbs.

Steps away from our own veggie patch, a mature
olive tree floats in a bath of fresh, new greenery,

while in the grove immediately behind our walls,
young trees stand in line for a spring pruning.

April, I am grateful for your gentle breeze,
bringing songbirds, butterflies and bees, to
play with spring blossoms and flowering trees,
in a game most magnificent and joyful.

Thanks for visiting,
 and happy weekend!
xoxo

Spring in Their Step

Goats, stand in a field of daisies and buttercups,
nibbling on grassy greens, pausing only for a quick
glance at a curious, camera carrying passerby.

In a neighbouring field, a chorus line of naked,
grapevine trunks, strike a pose - a prelude to
their full dress rehearsal, later, in the summer.

Against a thorny background, delicate beauties in deep purple,
dance a harmonious duet with dual toned partners, their petals
softly swaying to the sounds of a fresh, spring breeze.

Layers of texture, from yellow to pink to green and blue,
fill the landscape with pretty hues, brightly marking one's
mood, long after the dabs of daylight have faded.

Amid a finale of springtime fusion, clusters of red poppies steal the show. Charismatic leading ladies, they shine on a stage of rolling
hills, supported by a cast of naturally talented characters.

Regarding this post, my 2ooth, and all the others before
it, thank you for your kind visits and sweet words!

A Springtime Story of Grandeur and Glory

Daisies arrive on the patio, completely unexpected.

Between marble columns,
burnt orange daisies secure a
hot spot in the siesta mid-day sun,
to bask in the warmth of its healing
rays - a spritz of springtime therapy
after withering away from winter's malaise.

A bubble of almond blossoms
bursts on to the scene, waking
 olive trees and buttercups bored
with the usual. It shocks the serene by
splashing some rosy white on the green
and suddenly, the meadow looks awesome!

From rooftop ruins, lemony daisies sprout
between wide cracks in the sandy stone,
cheery, open - air dwellers of a centuries
old home, which shows no traces of its
'once upon a time' life. A structural array
of climatic strife, this abode, a tragic
example of 'open concept' design, is,
alas, a model of rubble in rocky decline.

On ground level, a red poppy stands
alone, in a field of cliquey colour.
Crepe paper frail, its silky petals
shiver in the cool, March breeze -
surely, an SOS of a flower in distress,
in dire need, of some TLC, from its own,
faraway, siren hued sisters. I wonder,
will they heed its weak and woeful
whisper, before it wilts and shrivels?

Close by, predatory branches claw their way
towards an unsuspecting, naive bell. Can't
they tell that this metal's heavily guarded?
Why don't they back away, before it starts
to sway, and alert all those around it?

Echium plantagineum in purple, and more
daisies, this batch in butter and cream,
spice some life on the bones of a new build,
and perk up a faded patina in peach.

Yes, spring has arrived in the
Cretan countryside, bearing gifts
of bucolic grandeur and glory.
I am grateful for Mother Nature's
generous offerings, and her
miraculous, annual, dowry.

 Happy Spring,
my friends!

Hope you'll stop by!
Thanks for
visiting!

A Rising Star

Among all the veggies on our land,

the rising vines of a
 fruit are most grand.

The zucchini leaves may leave a trail,

and the green onions may be hailed
'the most thriving';

 unlike the corn, whose stalks
 have yet to be adorned
with kernels of sweetness.

So, on a scale from 1 to 10,

the star of the show,
time and time again,

is the red, juicy fruit
that shines with pride,
beside its veggie cousins
 with whom it resides!

Thanks for stopping by!
Promise to visit soon;
have been extra busy!
Have a wonderful week!

Summer Sizzle

Potted petals, leaves dry and brittle,
line up patiently for their daily drizzle.

A sprinkle of H2O and plenty of TLC,
they are spared a sunburnt tragedy.

A war of hide and seek
with the fiery foe in the sky,

they dodge its burning bullets,
  blocked by marble allies.

Even those, who worship
the rays of its force,

do not brave the watery oasis,
but choose, to change course.

Only the fierce and the flying
dare to socialize,
taking a dip and a dive
before jetting back to their hives,

 now refuelled,
 and on the runway,
ready for takeoff.

Thanks for visiting
and have a fun weekend!
