Our garden is growing.
 Plump, imperfectly proportioned tomatoes
don't last long in this bowl.

When they have magically morphed
from a Granny Smith green

into a voluptuous, ripe red,
they are promptly
picked, peeled, and prepped
for a smooth ragout.

Our green onions
stand strong, as they struggle
against windstorms,

but manage to stay put,
thanks to deep rooted bulbs -
looking like anchors washed up
on a secluded, sandy shore.

Look at the pretty,
purple petals
of  the flowering eggplant
and its older sibling below it -

isn't all so amazingly miraculous?

It's unbelievable
that these orange
tree-top 'tulips'

will bloom

into robust, bordeaux beauties
bursting with a host
of health benefits.

What gorgeous goodies
are growing in your garden?

Thanks so much for visiting
Happy Fourth of July
to all my American friends!

  1. Good Evening Poppy, Your tomatoes look wonderful, so ripe and juicy and I bet they taste lovely.
I love pomegranates, I remember as a child, when we lived in Cyprus, my parents had pomegranate trees. My mum would break the pomegranate in half and then into quarters. I would be given a pin to take out the seeds to eat. I remember always getting into a bit of a mess with the pomegranate juice running down my dress.
I am growing pears, apples, radishes, peas, coriander and basil this year. The cherry tree and the plum tree did not fruit this year as the weather was so cold.
There is nothing so lovely as walking into the garden to pick your own produce.
    Best Wishes to you,

just today I was cutting the grass, and I noticed the one tree is loaded with cherries...the good sweet kind, this tree has seldom had any. It was a sweet surprise.

  9. Poppy ,είναι υπέροχο να έχεις τη δική σου παραγωγή ! Ο κήπος σου φαίνεται όμορφος και υγιής !Εχεις κάθε μέρα φρέσκα λαχανικά να γεμίζουν το τραπέζι ! Σάλτσα για το χειμώνα φτιάχνεις ;

  13. My dear Poppy,

Your cornucopia of organic and colourful home-grown produce is both mouth-watering and beautiful. A stunning house, a paradise of a garden and the delicious offerings from your fertile and lovingly cultivated vegetable patch completes the perfect life-style.
I had once attempted at growing some strawberries in my feeble garden, but insects got to them before I did and I gave up. I prefer to admire the efforts of those who have the patience and the know-how. So, for me the local market is the next best thing.

  14. Wow so beautiful....will you be frying those flowers from the Zucchini; enjoy your fruits!

  15. Lovely, Poppy. And the zucchini flowers are gorgeous!

  16. Your veggies look just gorgeous! We've had so much rain lately that I fear my plants will succumb to mildew if we don't get some sun soon to dry things out. I am getting a lot of cucumbers!

  17. It really is such a miraculous thing to watch food grow - and so gorgeous - nature is pretty incredible with their colors, isn't it???
You make me want a salad lol
    Oh and a pomegranate!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Your garden is beautiful. We've had such a cold spring in Brittany that I guess I won't have any tomatoes this year... The flowers never bloomed! But the salads loved all the rain we had!

  19. Your tomatoes are beautiful. Love all your pictures of garden things.

  20. A vegetable garden is a good deal of work, but I still enjoy it at 70! I wish the season were warm enough for me to harvest artichokes, but I grow them simply for their pretty foliage. This year I have LOTS of tomatoes!

  21. Your garden is spectacular Poppy!

  22. Thank you for making it possible for me to pretend I'm in your sunny garden. I am astounded at the beauty of everything in it, and being able to picture them taken into your charming kitchen.

I had never seen pictures of how a pomegranate is formed. Miracle!

  25. What lovely photos of your garden! It looks amazing! Sadly, I don't have a garden. I rely on the local Farmer's Market for fresh produce. I DID try growing a pot full of lettuce but it was eaten right down to the dirt by deer.

  26. Gorgeous summer fruits and vegetables, Poppy - love the flower of the eggplant - the Pomegranate flower is beautiful! How marvelous to grow them!! I do appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,

  27. Your tomatoes look wonderful Poppy! Oh, I meant to get a tomato plant this summer and I completely forgot until now! Gorgeous photos! Thanks for sharing at my HOME and enjoy the rest of your week.

  28. What a beautiful garden! Nothing like that growing here, no luck! I've tried tomatoes so often but they always get bottom rot! Our neighbor is a great gardener and he shares his bounty...such a nice fella!
Thanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY!
