It's Christmas Time in the City

City sidewalks, busy sidewalks.
Dressed in holiday style

In the air
There's a feeling
of Christmas

Children laughing
People passing

Meeting smile after smile
and on every street corner you'll hear

Silver bells, silver bells

It's Christmas time in the city

Ring-a-ling, hear them sing
Soon it will be Christmas day

Strings of street lights
Even stop lights
Blink a bright red and green

As the shoppers rush
home with their treasures

Hear the snow crunch
See the kids bunch

This is Santa's big scene

And above all this bustle
You'll hear

Silver bells, silver bells

It's Christmas time in the city

Ring-a-ling, hear them sing

Soon it will be Christmas day

Missing my family in Canada,
and dreaming of an
 old fashioned Christmas.
xo

  8. This is so delightful, Poppy! I'm printing this out and will make up a little Christmas book to look at over and over. Each picture you chose added to my enjoyment of this wonderful time of year. And Silver Bells is one of the happiest songs I've ever heard.

  11. The illustrations are so pretty, Poppy. They are from another time, but reflect how we all feel about Christmas in our towns and villages.

  18. Poppy, This is a great holiday post! I love Silver Bells - your pictures remind me of my old Christmas Village. I am really starting to want to put it back up this year but I have no where to put it. I think this calls for some creative design work, Maybe a small village? Maybe tucked in a corner with the couch at an angle? Now you have inspired me to work on my village with your lovely pictures. Ring on silver bells, ring on.

  24. I can sometimes feel envious of your beautiful surroundings, but it's easy to forget it comes with a sacrifice, too: that separation from family, friends and a setting that speaks of your earliest homes.

  25. Lovely and sweet post, Poppy! I'm going to bookmark it so I can look at it often over the holiday season. (I sang my way through it.) :o) Christmas can sure be bittersweet when we think of not being with our loved ones. Do you Skype with your family? I hope you'll get to enjoy a nice long chat with them on Christmas! My family is not as far apart, but we don't seem to get together very often so phone calls and emails are vital. Have a wonderful weekend, dear one! Bess

  26. Your images remind me of choosing and writing holiday cards with my mother and sister, a long time ago when I was much younger. Beautiful choices to go with words to a lovely song.

  32. I love the photos and images you chose for this great song of the holiday. Such homey images of Christmas in Canada, or at least parts of it. There's no snow here in our part of New Brunswick, at the moment. We might get some snow tomorrow night but it may not last for Christmas. I sure hope we get a white Christmas this year as the last few have been green! Thanks for sharing these pretty winter scenes, Poppy. Warm Canadian hugs to you!! Pam

  35. It reminds me of Elvis's "Silver bells" interpretation... yes...as soon as possible it will be Christmas day... Hope to be a White Christmas - since now - there's no snowflakes...(like in these lovely drawings of yours)... May we have an old fashioned Christmas one, with family and friends nearby to our soul!!

  51. It is always bittersweet for me, too, because there are times I can't be with my family (what is left) at Christmas. I do have my husband (and I am very grateful), but I think we often have an image in our minds of what Christmas is "supposed to be" and it is hard to supplant that with a new one, try though we might. These images are just beautiful, but in reality, I have never actually seen a Christmas that looks like these pictures. It doesn't snow much here in Alabama, and even when it does, I live in a suburban subdivision, not a city or out in the countryside. I think somehow, we have to find a new version of normal, whatever that may be.
