Black and white: alluring opposites, a dynamic duo.
Both beautiful, they boldly cover my wardrobe, sparingly
dot my decorating, but never represent my thinking,
as most topics of conversation, opinions, attitudes,
and beliefs, fall somewhere in between, for me. Life is not
black and white; if anything, it's filled with vibrant colour!

as most topics of conversation, opinions, attitudes,

black and white; if anything, it's filled with vibrant colour!
And so, we come to the subject of this black bistro set,
that crossed the Atlantic in a container from Canada,
along with several antiques, and second hand gems,
many years ago. In its prime, it was quite pretty,
but, due to the negligent behaviour of its occupants,
(the guilty yours truly and hubby), having literally, been left out
in the cold, and clearly, not rejuvenated by the rain,
its brilliant, black radiance was unfortunately,
(but not intentionally), reduced to a corroded, rusty malady.
It was time for a much needed makeover. Two coats
of creamy white for metallics were sprayed on, and,
like magic, the weary, wrought iron trio
morphed into a lovely and lustrous place of leisure;
a rooftop refreshment, with which to peruse
the picturesque and panoramic 'Poppy Views'.
Thanks for visiting and
have a wonderful week!

Hello Poppy
ReplyDeleteLovely to see you beautiful balcony. You transformed those Canadian wrought iron chairs and now they will serve you well. Wishing you a glorious week
Helenxx
I am not one for rustic looking wrought iron and love the makeover of the bistro set. The sugar bowl in the second photo appears to have your blog name as part of the pattern - very creative Poppy.
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking to Mosaic Monday.
A little paint, a little prose, and a not so little view! What more could we want??!

Hello Poppy! I think I have told you before that you grow the best geraniums. Your bistro set looks fantastic in white ~ very chic!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would get much housework done if I had a spot like that to sit and eat/read/relax.
ReplyDeleteGood Afternoon Poppy, Personally, I am not a fan of rust, although I know it is very popular at the moment.... but I love how you have totally transformed your black, rusted chairs into something spectacular. The new colour really suits your patio.... I love it.
ReplyDeletePoppy, your fruit platter looks lovely.... I would love to eat one of those big, fat, juicy grapes.
Have a wonderful evening.
Best Wishes
Daphne
My, how that white paint made such a lovely transformation! It made all of the rest of those gorgeous colors just POP all the more! And that fruit looks delectable! Have an awesome week!
ReplyDeleteThe view from your balcony is breathtaking and that flower pot, how lovely! You did an excellent work and the chair turned out so beautifully. The last picture could be a painting, I think...
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week!

I've admired that set from afar for a long time now Poppy and thought how nice it would be to sit with you and enjoy your magnificent vistas!
ReplyDeleteWith a little imagination and a can or two of fresh white paint a transformation has taken place - it's lovely!
I'm with you nothing is ever black and white and you Poppy, always bring a post full of much needed colour to my life in the dreary days of winter!
Glad to hear you enjoyed your holiday!

They look really good! The white makes them look very fresh and clean. I'm glad you were able to refresh them and give them a little more life.
ReplyDeleteLovely post, so colorful! I love it! Me thinks Poppy's views are fantastic! The makeover looks wonderful, you did a great job.. Have a happy week ahead!
ReplyDeletePS, thanks for stopping by and for the nice comment.
I totally agree - nothing is black and white but full of lovely color. Your newly painted chairs are lovely and so is the setting. Your grapes are gigantic!
ReplyDeleteYour table and chairs look so pretty after their makeover!! I don't suppose that you would like to come and do mine would you........ It must be a lovely place to sit and look out and contemplate, especially with your newly renovated furniture. xx
ReplyDeleteI've sprayed painted my wrought iron set many, many times, it's really still the best outdoor furniture for wear and tear. You did a great job and it looks spanking new again, and so very pretty Poppy.
ReplyDeleteMay your week be spent soaking up that incredible view while nibbling on those luscious fruits.
Love the white planter with the cherubs.
Hugs - Mary
Poppy, querida,
ReplyDeleteMas que encanto que ficou esse jogo de belas cadeiras.
Você deu vida nova a elas.
ReplyDeleteIt's like brand-spanking-new again! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree - life should be anything but just black and white!!! Loving all the vibrant colours in this post.
ReplyDeleteAmazing what spray paint can do. That trio is so perfect for that spot overlooking the most coveting view.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy my dear
Hugs,
Aida
I'm currently sitting on just such a project - I have the paint, I have the rusting garden furniture, I just have to join the dots! A bit of sunshine would help to motivate me. Looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteThat view is just incredible!
ReplyDeleteWe have an upstairs - off-the-master-bedroom -- set that looks much like yours did. You've inspired me to get some paint. . .actually, those views have inspired me to renew the Greek house search. . .in Crete!!
ReplyDeleteYour bistro set looks very much at home on its rooftop perch and what a great job of repainting. Color is a wonderful addition to the world, I'm so glad it's not in black and white. Stunning views and stunning fruit.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely brought it back to life- very pristine and beautiful again..although I do like rust too..usually on old barns though. LOL! Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteI love the transformation! What I love even more is the way your tell the tale, transforming a the simple story of spray paint into a fairytale and bringing that bistro set to life! Love it...books, lady. You should be writing books! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a transformation! So fresh! And that panoramic vista - pure bliss!!! I picture you sitting there....writing your blog. Hi, Poppy :) Happy first day of fall. xo
ReplyDeleteI LOVE do~overs!
ReplyDeleteit's so pleased with itself now . . . holding center stage on the terrace . . .
fresh and white and ready for everyday celebrations of life!
wonderful.
xoxo♥

Pure magic what paint and love can do!! Wow!
ReplyDeleteI am painting an old desk right now,I can not get over what a difference paint can make.
I hope you've been staying cool. Summer temps are back here this week:)
xo Lucy~
oh and I agree with Kim!
DeleteGorgeous and your scenery is quite the view. Lovely place to have lunch.

ihre dekoration ist wunderschön!!! liebe grüße von angie aus deutschland
ReplyDeleteAh, how things seemed either black or white when I was young. It took years to realize the wisdom of grays in conversation, and withholding quick judgement, not that it comes easy with age all the time.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, what would our lives be without color? But the pristine white flatters the fruit and china on your table, Poppy. The detail on the iron was worth a closeup, and worth preserving.
A touch of black always seems to add a little sophistication but your bistro set that was painted with love is so pretty in fresh white.
Poppy, you do have a way with words. I love your freshly painted bistro set in creamy white and what a view you have to enjoy! Your table top vignette is very cheerful and pleasant to the eye. It's always a pleasure to visit you. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
Your "new" bistro set looks more at home at Poppy's House than the old black one. The creamy color is more you and it compliments the vibrant colors that surround you better. BTW, I love how you discretely placed your name on the sugar bowl. The tea set looks like it was especially made for you. You are a clever lady. Have a nice weekend, Poppy. Christa
ReplyDeleteand lo and behold..... you have a beautiful white patio set of furniture sparking in the Med sun!!! A good white makeover works wonders sometimes. The bodegon setting just completes this picture of Mediterranean leisure.
ReplyDeletekeep well
Amanda :-)
So pretty! Would you mind if I just camped out on your lovely porch for a while? The view is so breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteBig Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

Okay, after the lovely stay in your guest room, I would love to have a cup of coffee on that lovely, freshly painted bistro set. The view is AMAZING! Thanks for sharing at the Art of Home-Making Mondays :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely spot and a beautiful view.
ReplyDeleteYou know I love a bit of rust and aged patina, but refreshing the bistro set with white was the perfect answer and dignifies the view !
ReplyDeleteOh how I love your posts! I seriously want to be there right now, glass of wine in hand, maybe a good cheese =) Thank you so much for linking up at Found & Foraged! PINNED! Hope to see you again this Saturday night at 8PM at http://houseofhipsters.com
