This stairway successfully led me to a smart
and savvy solution this weekend, after repeatedly
'hitting my head against a brick wall'.
Yes, this brick wall.
Upon returning to the island, having spent 2 ½ months
in Canada, some vignettes, I felt, needed some revamping,
like this little quintet above. Of course, I had
visions of marble topped consoles, with curvy,
wrought iron legs, all accessorized in French accents,
but my budget is not fluent in such decor dialect!
So, I searched the house, my very own 'mall-on-call',
and climbed the stairs to the master bedroom,
where, a potential 'purchase' was plucked from its
original place, nestled in a corner of my bedroom,
to its new location, in the front entry hall, where
it can keep company with it's fellow dweller,
a sweet and petite antique desk, that was
snatched from right behind those French doors.
Do you remember it?
Here's a hint of how it's been 'restocked'.
More on this 'floor model' in a future post!
Now, let's see what what we've 'walked out' with:
(ain't that an abundance of alliteration!)
Before After |
Before After |
I believe the '(ex)changes' are more suited to the season,
for a lighter, brighter, simpler look.
So, let's see what this 'new', 'now' corridor cost me -
let the number crunching begin:
Pretty petals, gathered from my garden. |
energy source #1,
(from running hiking up and down those stairs),
+
calories,
(always a good thing to spend!),
+
energy source #2,
that the little light bulb in my brain burned...(out!),
=
$0.00
Thanks for visiting!
Happy Canada Day and 4th of July,
and a big hello to my new followers!

ReplyDeleteGreat changes, and for no cost!! The best way to decorate!
ReplyDeleteAll the changes you have made are lovely, and it makes you appreciate pieces of furniture that were tucked away in other rooms.
ReplyDeleteYou have such pretty touches throughout your home Poppy. I love the changes, the smaller tables suit the space ... and what a lovely curvy marble staircase you have :) Do you have little non-skid dots on the bottoms of your socks? Enjoy your evening. Wendy x
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot to be said for rearranging the things one already has at hand, Poppy. I need to do the same around my home. Your entryway looks wonderful, very inviting!
ReplyDeleteHave a glorious week.
Karen

ReplyDeleteI love the changes you have made. It is interesting how travel and being away gives inspiration and we look at our home with a fresh eye.

. . . love the new look . . . love that you shopped at home . . . really love your stairway . . .
ReplyDeleteHello Poppy,
ReplyDeleteYour new changes are very successful. They bring so much more lightness and airiness into the hall. And, your rearranged 'tablescapes' are perfectly fitting for the season. You must be so pleased with the result. And now......the rest of the house!
Good Morning Poppy, I think we should all take a leaf out of your book and take a look around our homes to see what can be rearranged. Your hall looks so lovely and it was free..... marvellous.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day.
Best Wishes
Daphne
Hi Poppy, that is one impressive change. Apart from poetic you are very artistic and imaginative too. Well not to mention being a sensible homemaker and an interior decorator. Your home is beautiful, flowing with so much light and breathing space. Ahh I could only dream of such magnificent home.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful week
We will soon need you in The Mani!!! Do you make housecalls? So inspiring that even Joel said, "That's what I want you to do with 'our' house" . . .keep your fingers crossed that it will be our house before July is over. Beautiful work here!!
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie,
DeleteYou and Joel are TOO sweet! Wow!! Are you kidding?! I'd LOVE to help you decorate your dream home in The Mani!! Can't wait for the good news, and I KNOW it's going to be EXACTLY what you've always dreamed of...and MORE!
XX..Today, this means: FINGERS CROSSED...but always, kisses!
Poppy
Poppy...the changes you made are really lovely (although I thought they were before the swicharoo). It's funny how just a few minor changes make things seem brand new! Oh, and I absolutely love that stairway! Have a great week!
ReplyDeletecoming by here is better than medicine!
ReplyDeleteit IS medicine.
so cheerful... colorful yet elegant.
i am in love with those marble stairs and railing and brick wall...
does your villa have a name? oh yes! i forgot! poppy view! ♥
It's fun to move things around for a new look without any cost! :)
ReplyDeleteYour house is so beautiful Poppy and your love for vibrant colors and fresh elements create a cosy and warm atmosphere . When owners love and take care of their house this is more than evident.
ReplyDeleteDear Poppy, I just love the (ex)changes you made in our entry hall! You have such a good taste!
ReplyDeleteI like to move furniture around the house, myself, and it's about time I also do some new moves !
Have a happy Canada Day!! And thanks for reminding this to me, as my uncle and aunt arrived in Athens from Montreal three days ago and I will call them in the morning to wish them the same!!
Have a happy new week!!!!
Beautiful changes... and so creative that you shopped your house! LOVE your stairs! Can't find anything that spectacular here in the states!~
ReplyDeleteIsn't it fun to re-do things in the house with furniture and decor that you already have? Like other bloggers have said, I *love* your staircase (is it marble?) and brick wall. You should show us more of your house...it looks so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi Melanie,
DeleteThanks, yes, the staircase is marble, and I love it when it's freshly mopped and squeaky clean, but not slippery!
xx
Poppy
Poppy, Your home is lovely and you made some pretty changes. I am in love with your staircase.
ReplyDeletexx,
Sherry
always great to "shop" from your home. everything seems new when it's arranged differently. Looks beautiful, and I too, love your staircase.
ReplyDeleteFunny how we always feel more in the mood of changing things when we come back from travels. I love your exchange. Does this mean that the furniture that was there before is now in the places where you took the "new" furniture from? Or did you just store them somewhere else?
ReplyDeleteHi Carola,
DeleteThank you, yes, for the most part, the pieces have traded places, but am still deciding where to put the wine rack that the lamps sat on; am thinking of turning it into a potting shed for the patio. The corner of my master bedroom needs filling, although I do like the airiness of it, as it is a small room.
xx
Poppy
Great changes that totally lighten up the entry. Love the staircase, too!
ReplyDeleteGood morning!
ReplyDeleteI was very pleased about your message. I am very curious and simply want to look your blog over and it pleases me very much.
Your home like it very much. You have everything set up beautifully!
I'll send you all greetings
Ulli from Germany
It is always a good feeling to change things up a bit with the changing of the season. Beautiful home you have.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what one can create when we shop our own cottages. Love your brick wall too.
ReplyDeleteBig Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
Poppy - you've given me an idea to make some changes here too!! When I moved into our Australian houses I had a Design Dr come and help me move in & place the furniture just so, she reckoned in 3 hrs she could give any house a completely new look by moving things around. I like your style and love the desk!
ReplyDeleteHappy Canada day - we see your lass Eugenie has done well at Wimbledon today!
Wren x
Your stairs are amazing! It's pretty!
OK Poppy let me just keep this short, brief and simple you are GOOD, very very GOOD. Now how much will it cost to hire you to come fix my mess ;)
ReplyDeleteShopping one's home (mall-on-call is such a great way to put it) is always the best fun, with great reward for zero outlay.
ReplyDeleteYour subtle changes in the hall really give the space a fresh summery feel, and look lovely against that gorgeous staircase and stone wall.
It looks wonderful...I, too, love shopping the house...and just subtle changes can make a huge difference.
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely....xoxo bj
Hi Poppy, I love the changes you made! Isn't it fun to find things we already have to give a fresh look to a room. I have to tell you, while I was setting up my "Poppy Tea" post I kept thinking of you and wishing you could stop by and join me for tea! Wishing you a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteNancy
I so enjoy the style in which you write, Poppy. You engage me in everything you do and think and say!! The changes you've made in the foyer are perfect...you have more space for sure! Your furniture exchanges really work...I, too, love shopping the house!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, busy lady! We absolutely love lake life and sadly, it lasts only about 4 short months. :(
Jane xx
Your staircase is gorgeous!! Perhaps stairs like that are fairly common in Europe, but one would have to look far and wide to see such craftsmanship here in the States.
ReplyDeleteThe changes do indeed look airier and more suited to summer. Small pieces like that are so versatile!
(My friends daughter got married on Saturday and they are honeymooning in Greece, with a visit to Crete planned.)
Lovely changes! It looks so fresh!
ReplyDeleteNice exchanges. I love that mirror with the intricate frame.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the best "mall on call" is always your own abode. I'm sure that seeing your home again for the first time after your visit to Canada was through the vision of new eyes. I love the changes you made, it's fresh and airy, leaving you free to enjoy the blessings of summer in the beautiful place you live. Well done! Budget constraints don't limit you at all!
ReplyDeleteDid you pass the time away on that long flight home by rearranging furniture in you mind? I do that even when I'm in the dentist chair!
Nice changes :) Doesn't the 'new' furniture give you more room to walk? Now, who wouldn't like that!!

I love the changes, and I think the foyer looks bigger. The new furniture looks like it takes the same areas but with the bottoms open makes it look bigger. I really love your staircase and how it rinds upstairs. I know for me changing out furniture makes me feel like I have a new room and look. Very pretty, and have a great holiday.
ReplyDeleteI love to make seasonal changes, Poppy, and yours are just right. :) They did lighten things up for the summer season, and I'm sure you'll enjoy the "newness" of it. Best of all, you spent zero $'s. :-D Thanks for sharing with us. I love your home; it's SO charming!!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Home and Garden Thursday; have a wonderful week!
Hugs,
Denise
It looked pretty before, but I agree, even better now. You've inspired me to shop my house and rearrange. And your "calculations" had me laughing out loud!
ReplyDeletePoppy
ReplyDeleteIt's such a good feeling to change thing around and your entry way looks great.
I do hope you had help lugging that furniture, though! And it wasn't just your 'energy' that was spent.
Hi Poppy! I love the changes you made and enjoyed seeing where you shopped for them and the accessories you decorated with. That was fun! I think the lighter wood tones look great for summer. I love your curvy staircase and your pretty blue boudoir. Have a great weekend. Hugs. Pam
ReplyDeleteHi Poppy, the change brightened the entry way nicely. I love your post presentation; it was really fun to read. Happy 4th, Poppy.
ReplyDeleteHi Poppy, I just discovered that I somehow (I was using my new tablet) published on my blog the comment I wrote on this post. I have since deleted. Sorry about that. Christa
ReplyDeleteVery frugal shopping trip! I love the redo. I love the stairs and painted (isn't it?) brick. Your home is beautiful. Thanks for linking at A Stroll and luring me back by.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week,
Sherry
I love the new place for the secretary!
ReplyDeletePoppy, you made such lovely changes! Thank you for sharing. You are one of the features today at The Round-Up from the Before & After Wednesday party at The Dedicated House. Here is the link if you want to check out your feature. http://www.thededicatedhouse.com/2014/07/the-round-up-from-before-and-after_8.html Hope to see you again tomorrow at the bash! Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute post, Poppy! I thought your "before" pics were very nice, but the "afters" really do reflect a lighter look -- nice for summer. That little secretary is so cute. I think I would probably find myself sitting right there, looking out the open door to all that beauty, while I blogged away!
ReplyDeleteThis looks marvelous, Poppy - beautiful 'exchanges'! I will be featuring your post in this week's Home and Garden Thursday,
ReplyDeleteKathy
I liked it before, but yes, you are correct, it's much lighter and brighter now with this arrangement. And I'm WAAAAAAAY jealous of your 2-1/2 month vacation. Greece really needs to tell the US that 2 weeks vacation from work is just not healthy =)
ReplyDeleteHi Poppy, it's fun to move things around and bring a fresh look without spending a cent. Wishing you a happy day, Heather
ReplyDeleteDelightful changes, my friend. The before was beautiful and the after is beautiful....you simply have a way of making everything beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteIt's always a joy to have you join Roses of Inspiration. Hugs and blessings!
Fantastic changes, I loved them both ways, I need to see what I can change around here
ReplyDeletelovely and for very good price too, take care Jaana
