Whether

ruby red radiance,

or stucco clad,

signature sweet fragrance -
they charm.
Crowning a hilltop,
overlooking the sea,
tiny, kid-drawn cottages
bewitch and beckon me.
In the valley below,
vanilla villas and
patches of produce
in bright, veggie green,
are the perfect ingredients
of Cretan country cuisine.
Back home,
between the finials
of the black, iron gate,
this born and bred
town mouse gazes at
her geographical fate.
Town mouse or country mouse,
a critter needs its house!
Which one are you?
Thanks for visiting.
Have a lovely weekend.

ReplyDeleteG-O-L-L-Y! Can your pictures get any more gorgeous? I don't think so. Poppy View bewitches this Country Mouse!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. I would be a country mouse that likes to visit a city mouse once in awhile.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful. I live in the city, because it is convenient with my child's schooling. However, when I was in Europe for 5 weeks, it was quite obvious that I would easily be a country mouse, if my daughter could study anywhere.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I'm a town mouse and my husband is a country mouse. It works for us. :)
ReplyDeletePoppy, Having a view like yours could change me into a country mouse....Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sherry
It looks so lovely! I am a city mouse that could be converted in seconds to be a country mouse if I saw these views every day.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous views. I am a town mouse about to become a country mouse and living in a mouse-house.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, a friend and I were just remarking the other day how we are both country mice and city mice. Of course, we live in the country, but we both need the pulse of the city every once in a while. To me, the perfect lifestyle would be a penthouse in Manhattan with a fabulous city lit view, and a house somewhere in one of your pictures perhaps? Yes, I think that would be heaven on earth.
ReplyDeleteOh Poppy, your photos are always a feast for the eyes. I especially love the front door with the flowers and leaves hanging down - I wish I could grow something like that here :)
ReplyDeleteI must say that I am a country mouse :) Hugs to you, sweet lady!
Oh such beautiful photo's Poppy. Your country side is so pretty and I would be a country mouse.
ReplyDeleteGreat post - thanks so much for sharing.
Hugs,
Mary
Your poetry and pictures are so touching. You know, I'm sure. I have the luxury of being a city and country mouse. Actually a country mouse for my first 25 years!
ReplyDeleteThank you for a beautiful post as always, Poppy!

Your words are great Poppy, so are your wonderful pictures of Crete. You are lucky to live as a city mouse in a country house. I am a real country mouse who loves visiting the city once in a while.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Janneke
These aren't photos, these are paintings Poppy, you are a painter my dear! I'm a country mouse too and would live without pain in this fabulous Cretan landscape. Blessings for a peaceful and happy Sunday!

ReplyDeleteSweet! And lovely images! Definitely country for me. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeletei simply get lost in your pictures.
ReplyDeleteif ever the word 'sumptuous' applied...
and i use to be a country mouse. but as i get older... i think i'm a town mouse
that swoons over countryside sumptuous pictures! XO♥
have a wonder~full week little town and country poetic mouse! ♥
I'm a town mouse with an appreciation for and need to be in the countryside on a regular basis. Perhaps I should be living on the edge of a town with the countryside view behind the house!
ReplyDeleteKaren
I am a transplanted Country Mouse, living in a city house. Always in a state of conflict and confusion!
ReplyDeleteThe staples of your countryside are abundant and nourishing, such beauty to behold and your writing so satisfying to the mind!
Love,
Jemma
Poppy, your colorful photos always grab me and then your words make me sit down and listen. I do so enjoy your posts! I, my friend, am a country mouse! I I love green grass, lush flowers, the sound of the waves lapping at the shore, the quiet night and dark skies full of stars. The concrete jungle is not for me~ I live close enough to go and return in the same day, but I love coming home to the country!!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures! I think I was born a city mouse and I am turning into a country mouse!
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures and the words. I guess you could call me a country mouse. HA! HA!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Love the pictures and the words.
ReplyDeleteI am a suburban mouse, haha, who would love to have a city apartment and a country estate!
I am a city mouse born and raised but have spent the greater part of my life in the country, which I much prefer. Beautiful countryside pictures, Poppy. You are blessed to live in such a pretty country place. Hugs. Pam
ReplyDeleteWhat a lucky lady to live in such a beautiful place!! Thanks for sharing it through your fantastic photography! I think I might be a country mouse. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a country mouse who will likely, some day, become a town mouse. When you are used to a beautiful view, and your's is magnificent, it's hard to imagine giving it up.
ReplyDeleteI think that I am a country mouse in a town house! Perhaps one day I will be a country mouse in a country house! xx
ReplyDeleteThis was such a fun poem! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely photos around you dearest Poppy ! I would like to be a country mouse but a I am a city mouse !
ReplyDeleteI am definitely a country mouse, but I would happily live in any of the homes you pictured!
ReplyDeleteOh such beautiful views you have! I bet that helps you adjust to the country. I know it must be hard though when shopping is needed but what a great trade off!
ReplyDeleteYour photographs are always breath-taking Poppy:) .. and yes.. even a town mouse needs a place to sleep. Hope your week is off to a great start! xxleslie
ReplyDeleteI think the Cretan tourism department should hire you to take photos and write about your island. I know that since reading your posts I would love to visit. Gorgeous scenery.
ReplyDeleteI'm a small town mouse that loves the country - how's that for ambivalence?
I prefer the views of a country mouse but the life of a town mouse. There are a lot of critters out in the country, like snakes and skunks and I can't deal. We have a lot of scenery but so many wild animals. I much prefer my cats compared to all the country has to offer. Yet I prefer the wild animals rather than my neighbors. It seems that it's always a compromise!
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos. The colors in the 1st one were delightful.
ReplyDeleteI'm more of a "city" mouse but in my case a smaller city rather then a big one.
A born town mouse...until 4 years ago, when we moved 50 Kms out of Athens...I now definitely consider myself a country mouse!!!! I enjoy the countryside so much, my garden, the closeness of the sea side...I could never go back to town!
ReplyDeleteI wish you a lovely new week, dear Poppy!
I'm a town mouse, as long as the mouse house is near the sea.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a mouse who likes to swim in the sea but I appreciate a view that contains a lot of sea blue hues !
I'm a town mouse too, so not a city one! Your photography is also so pretty....but then you landscape is beyond beautiful! I love the quiet, grass, flowers and nature! It sooth's my soul though. Stopping by to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI'm a country mouse in a town house!
ReplyDeleteWonderful writing and photography dear Poppy - I always love these posts of yours.
I would love to visit Greece one and sail around the Greek Isles - have you done that?
love
Shane
Gosh I love stone houses, so much beauty in them. I think I'm a town mouse who wishes to be a country mouse!
ReplyDeleteThis country (seaside) mouse loves your beautiful prose and gorgeous photos.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, lyrical prose.... altogether lovely! :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely post today. The stone houses are SO Pretty. I imagine I am a country mouse that enjoys a visit to the city every now and then.
ReplyDeletePoppy, you just always amaze me. How beautiful are the images and your words just seem to flow so beautifully along the path of each one. Happy Day to you my friend~
ReplyDeleteSooo lovely, Poppy! I'm a country mouse stuck in a town house :( Your beautiful images make me swoon! Have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Patti
I am truly a country mouse... though I have "done some time" as a city mouse :)
ReplyDeleteJust stopping in a few minutes to say thank you for sharing your beautiful posts on the Art of Home-Making Mondays each week. Have a lovely weekend of family fellowship!
Raised a country mouse who left the country for the big city. After many years as a big city mouse I'm now happily back in the country. :) Love the stone dwellings, Poppy. So much character. xxx ~ Nancy
ReplyDeleteI´m a country mouse for sure! I love the calmness, the nature...
ReplyDeleteThis summer I went high up in the mountains of Lefka Ora, it was a paradise! I could live there...
Have a nice week, take care!
Warmly,
Titti
As always Poppy, wonderful photographs.
ReplyDeleteI don't really know which I am, town or country mouse?
I do love towns and cities, mostly to visit, to admire the architecture and sit at a pavement cafe and do a bit of people watching.
The relaxing calmness of the country is where I like to live though....I think!
The ideal thing, would be to have both, a town house and a country house!
Susan.x
Oh my gosh, you always have the most gorgeous pictures, Poppy! I do like my privacy, but I have to say the city mouse is more my style. I would love to live within walking distance of markets, restaurants and libraries -- that would be ideal!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Poppy :) Great town and beautiful views. I am especially enchanted image number 4. Have Sunday :) Pozdrawiam :)
ReplyDeletePoppy, those scapes are an ultimate feast for the eyes!
ReplyDeleteI have only lived in the country...there is things about the town that appeal but other things not so much. What never ceases to amaze me is how some people in town don't know their next door neighbour at all...I know that is a telling statement.:)
Thanks for your visit, We went away last weekend to Ohio on a wee holiday...I've also started working at a small cafe in near by Elora, add getting ready for Christmas makes for time away from blogging. I hope to return...Merry Christmas my friend!
The views are always amazing here Poppy! Thanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY...
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy

ReplyDeleteΥπέροχες φωτογραφίες!!! Μπράβο σου !
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Poppy! I am a Country Mouse.
ReplyDeleteHi Poppy, wow I think hat Crete is one of the most beautiful places to live. I like city life but grew up in suburbia. I think I like a little of both! Have a nice evening and weekend Poppy.
ReplyDeleteHow about one of each? Yes, I am greedy when it comes to owning houses. I want an apartment and a villa, in the countryside and uptown, near the beach and on the hills. And every since I started visiting your blog, I want one in Crete too :)
