My Shabby Chic Chair Affair

Our deck chairs, after too much sun, rain, wind, and wear.

I am not your typical shabby chic kinda chick,

although I do appreciate a little scruffiness

Newly sanded, awaiting the next step.

here and there, in a finely
chiseled table or a charming chair.

Primed and prepped.

When pressed, I will admit
to an affinity for the distressed.

But, I bet that even die-hard fans of this deco
trend would probably agree that this patina is

way too weathered - even for their time-worn tastes!

Don't let the floral frou frou fool you -

'Next!' Chairs cue up for a shabby to chic technique.

it was definitely time for a tune-up!

Freshly painted in a soft sheen of aquamarine,

their cool, blue hue, was the
direct result of a colour crush

on this good looking gate. Remember those words
of devotion I uttered when I first gazed upon it?

''...Quiet and unassuming, (it) spoke to me
in whispery tones, just loud enough to become
a lovely inspiration for a future patio project,
(to be posted soon), in my own garden.''

I kept my promise.

And that calls for a toast:
'To the shabby and the worn:
do not fret - for, you too,
 one day shall be reborn!'

Thanks for visiting
and happy weekend!

  2. Oh Poppy, I love those chairs - they are stunning. They go so well with all your lovely flowers. Such a pretty color - so glad you saw the gate and filed that away for a post. How nice it would be to sit and have a tea or at twilight have a nice glass of wine and relax watching the sun set.
Have a wonderful weekend my friend.

  4. These chairs are so cute in their pretty aquamarine blue ... they fit so nicely in with all that colour in your garden! I have to admit, I kinda liked the weathered look too ;) I have a very weathered chair on my patio, but with a bright cushion, it seems just right. Have a happy sunny weekend! Wendy x

Isn't colour inspiration strange and fascinating, in all its subtle and strong manner? :)

  12. Oooh! I was waiting to see how you would use that color and I LOVE it! It is the perfect shade for a summer transformation. Isn't it amazing what a little bit of paint can do? If only that would work on the little lines popping up around my eyes! ;) Enjoy your lovely new garden set, Poppy!

  20. Shabby is great but you do need some paint or the wood will eventually disintegrate. Love the colour you chose and the perfect 'old world' setting. I may pop over and have a chat with you over a glass of wine this evening.

  21. I love your great color flower.

  22. Stunning transformation Poppy, and the setting is perfect. The tablecloth was made to order for those chairs. I like the weathered look, but I think now they are more in tune with their surroundings and your aesthetic. (Not to mention that wood needs some protection so it was a practical choice as well.)

  27. I love your color crush, what a luscious shade of blue! The before pics had a certain charm but the new is fresh and invigorating. I bet your eyes don't slide over them without seeing them when you see them from inside the house.

Every time I see something like this I start looking around the house with a paintbrush in my mind, it just doesn't often move to my hand, more's the pity. Well done, Poppy!

  28. I'm crushing over your color crush! That blue is to bluetiful! The photo of the first folding chair I have a chair that almost matches it out in my garden. We been painting like crazy and need a break. Love your photo and views. I'm drooling for sure!

  29. Ha ha, awe, well everything I own in furniture would have that title of Shabby Chic and I adore it and other times I think, I sure would love something very traditional. The aquamarine colour certainly gave the chairs a new lift to their sitting and I like it very much. I think that I need to go get some paint and begin a project...a nice splash of colour always awakens the setting~
